The flipped perspective really confused me at first lol... I thought the first controllers thumb sticks were flipped
i hate it
Absolutely ridiculous to post a video like this with a flipped perspective
I thought I was the only one
My thoughts exactly.. please flip the video back lol
EDIT: Oh, also, which Binbok version did you get? I notice that Amazon has a 'revised' version on sale now.. hopefully they fixed the D-Pad
@@nayyarrashid4661 oh thank god, i thought i was going crazy...
If you take the BinBok apart you'll find stickers under the D-Pad, once removed it's a much better feel (not perfect but better). If someone 3D printed a D-Pad for it with a better pivot spike in the middle it'd be the perfect controller.
Let me know if you find that 3D printed part.
So are we gonna ignore the joysticks dead space/zone ?
I took it apart and attached an eraser (cut in half because it was too big) to the middle spike and its MUCH better now
Maybe also soldering some tact switches to the contact points (like Wulff Den did with the original Pro Controller).
I had been looking at every one of these options 😁. Thanks for going super in-depth. You just got a new sub!
for anyone wondering the hori and the bin bok feel almost the same, only difference i noticed is if u program one of the back buttons and decide to use turbo with it, the bin bok will program the back button and the original button for turbo but the hori will only program that back button for turbo. hopefully it makes sense
Thanks for the very nice review. Finally a Street Fighter player who is seriously reviewing the dpads on these controllers. Very helpful, well-thought out reviews. Please keep it up! I was going to get the Binbok controller, but the d-pad really turned me off since I play a lot of old school fighting games.
Same here.
Same bro. No other reviewer noticed this flaw
Briar I always find your content informative and entertaining. Thank you.
Ok I know this is a pretty older video but you helped me out so much!! Thank you! 😁👍🏿👍🏿
I’ve really been enjoying the content Briar! Keep em coming!
Awesome review. You got me subbed. 👍
Been using the Hori SPP for a while. Gave the Binbok a go and ended up returnign them. FPS games like Overwatch and Doom felt off with the Binbok. Couldn't dial in the sticks to be enjoyable. Better control in FPS with the Hori.
I know it's not a controller but the Satysfy grip with joy con's is incredible comfortable. You still have the button dpad and the smaller analog sticks to deal with but it is much improved. Also, the grip that I ordered came with analog stick grip covers that improve functionality. Just worth mentioning I thought. I've used Split Pad Pro and it good minus all of the features missing but now I am onto the Binbok and am loving them. Dpad hasn't been a huge issue yet.
for the binbok controller the dpad issue can be fixed if take apart and remove the stickers on bottom of it. dont understand why they did this, but after removing the stickers it works fine. great review tho for all controllers
I have the done just got and I’m absolutely in love with and really don’t feel like it’s heavy at all but they did updates from before
I have tried both the Hori Split Pad Pro and the Kydlan. The Kydlan has motion controls, but the freaking D-pad....I’m with you, I’m a Street Fighter gamer and these clicky digital D-pads just don’t work for those games. It would have been perfect otherwise. The Hori Split Pad Pro, even with its omissions, is the way to go.
I've seen a few people mention the issue with the BinBok D-pad. Apparently, it's fairly simple to fix, Spawn Wave did a more in-depth video on it.
I fixed mine and it works amazingly
@@No1Noz how?
Love your vids and how you just simply talk and show us the product....the mirroring of the video though throws me off and would like to see the controller as it lays...my brain cant handle it haha
Solid video man.
Just waiting on 8BitDo to make a JoyCon replacement. I use exclusively the SN30Pro+ for my PC, Steam Link and my Switch when docked. I’m sure others have said it a million times but they really do make the best controllers.
That'd be so dope. Gyro, rumble, great buttons, great dpad... It really would have it all
Nice vid. The way the footage is mirrored was messing with me tho.
Is the video flipped horizontally, or am I losing my mind?
Yup! My bad! Had it set up for streaming.
Yeah was crazy weird to me. Great vid though Briar thank you!
@@BriarRabbit Ah, makes sense; just adds flavor to a good review!
You had it set up for “screaming”... Jk...
Are you going to review the version 2 with the improved d pad?
can't agree with u more, the 8bitdo's quality is top-notch despite the fact that is handheld mode free, hori's buttons are way mushier to me especially the shoulder buttons and many times it just doesn't trigger if i didn't push it really hard, that's too bad for action games like monster hunter, just wish there is a mix of 8bitdo sn30 pro (functionality and materials) and hori split pad pro, i will buy it instantly without a doubt
I saw another video on the Dobe Switch grip and they mentioned using grip covers for the analog that helped them. I've been having issues w/ my Switch overheating while docked so i want something for handheld and the Dobe grip would seem to accomplish that since my joycons are drifting again.
My switch does the same so I’m on the same boat now I know this is old but did you end up with the dobe case? How was it?
I ended up going with binbok but the ones I've obtained are slightly smaller. Dpad still sucks but definitely the best all rounder. Now if I could just find a case with room for them.
If you still have the BBs, NYXI sells pretty much the same pads and they sell a case for them.
I’m on the fence about these but I may just buy em and modify the D pad.
Love my ps5 and even win handheld but the switch is my fav too for indie or newer retro style games. Perfect for the switch.
I picked up one of the newest versions of the binbok ones and the D pad is really good
I wish 8bitDO would make third-party joy-cons with both comfort & superior d-pad
No
@@bingusbongus3109 Yes
Just saw this video, thanks for the reviews and advices
But just take me a few moment to noticed that the Video is mirrored, make all the controllers looks strange....
I got the dobe one three days ago. It’s absolutely beautiful and amazing. I am gonna sold my pro controller might also sell joycons. I don’t agree with his issues . Maybe everyone has different opinion but from my point of view dobe is amazingggg
is it still fine?
I don't know if it was a manufacturing problem and the fixed it or they redesigned the dpad but for the Binbok can say it feels good enough for me.
It doesn't register 2 inputs from me and while it does feel...cheap. It'll do for me.
I saw Spawnwaves video for it and he found stickers inside. It could of been a factory error and either fixed it during his video or they fixed it right after.
Again the D pad isn't great and Hori's still the king of the dpad. But it feels better than how you describe.
Binbok is probably the best controler out there right now as it has all the necessary tools and feels great.
the binbok or nexigo as its also called, has deadzone issues , but honestly, Ive been playing fifa , mario 3d world , final fantasy crisis core and some others and honestly dont find an issue with the sticks, however if youre playing a shooter, Id imagine you may find an issue with the right stick for aiming , but honestly if its for anything else, it seems to perfectly fine, IMO
I'm deciding between BinBok Joy Cons and DOBE Switch Controller - wonder if you can help. I'm not using d-pad too much, so can you tell me which has better analogs (I would put some grip on Dobe right analog) and gyro aming?
for the Dobe controller, could you put a thumb grip on the right stick to help with the feel?
I was gonna pick up the Binbonk. But the Dpad. Gonna wait and see if they make a version with better d pad
The Fixture S1 + pro controller is the definitive way to play in handheld. It is not awkward I promise. It is highly adjustable so you can have the center of balance and the angle of the screen wherever you need it depending on how you are sitting or laying. It still has rumble and gyro controls and some of the best analog sticks available. They are currently working on a new model to fill the OLED model. Also they sell a pretty compact carrying case.
Just looked it up, that looks hella awkward.
@@Savannah_Simpson Looks can be deceiving
Looks riky af, If that falls of your hand, the switch will take alot of damage
The mount swivels so you can make the center of balance anywhere you want so it doesn't lean in any direction when you are holding it. I guess it's something you need to hold in your hands to understand.
Thanks for this video. I hope binbok releases a updated dpad controller.
There’s a super simple fix for the Binbok D-pad and now it works great.
They’ve released a new reiteration of the controller that’s fixed the dpad
Despite its imperfection we like the dobe style type of controller the most when come to playing in handheld mode. Me and brother dont like how joycons felt like they are bending when using them, hence we got these. Though we have the ovio and the nexigo which basically the same thing. Using it sort of reminds me of the wii u gamepad which i loved playing a lot when i had it.
I've never used the Dobe controller, but I have thought this for years
I really want a single-body design from a switch portable controller. I dislike the amount of flex you feel when holding the Switch with joy cons
Dude, i almost never use the d-pad lol
Update: i got the binbok controller and the d-bad feels more then fine. Although im not a d-pad pro so I couldn’t tell yeah the quality. I really like it though. The controller can feel a little uncomfortable at times but this is by far the best joy cons are going to get. Its a massive step up from the starter ones
Does yours drift?
Do you know if the BinBok supports button mapping?
@@tedsheridan8725 They do. You can remap buttons in the Switch OS, and they also have a programmable back button where your fingers rest on each controller.
@@hazzadoggo4659 Awesome - thanks!
Dpad is everything in a fighting game unless you go with joystick or hit box.
So my OG Nintendo joy-cons are drifting like crazy, and its $79.99 to buy new ones, so is it better to buy BinBok or other ones mentioned in this video because they're 3rd party? Like do these ones drift?
I'll have more videos coming soon. starting next week.
i did just buy a replacements hell for original joycon with d-pad and i use it with the satisfye zengrip pro
That’s the way to go 👌
because of the Switch's versatility i don't think we'll ever have one perfect controller. i have different controllers for when im home and use them for specific purposes. and most often travel with the Lite.
The satisfye case for the lite feels so Amazing
Heard you mention how bad one controller is during DCP Live so I've been waiting for this.
Thank you!
Honestly I was hopping for some more of Out Of Context Briar..
BTW any opinion on the switch online exclusive controls.. are good, are bad??
Briar rabbit "wide and thick" 2021.
The 8BitDo Pro 2 is the perfect controller in my opinion, it seems flawless, however, we don’t have a perfect joy-con yet.
Can you play woth 1 controller? Special with d-pad?
I wish Nintendo can do joycon lite without HD rumble, IR and NFC and make those cheap. Or license a 3rd party to make Joycons that are close to feel of Joycons
I'm wondering how the Doyoky holds up against these.....I NEED a good 3rd party split controller experience to ACTUALLY replace my joycons if I'm gonna spend money on it....I find my Hori split pad compact lacking for everything but handheld, and it's a pain on my arthritis to play too long in handheld, or with a pro controller.
Look at joy-cons made by KINVOCA (they are available on Amazon and have multiple names) they are great. Sticks are tall and d-pad gets the job done. Also they are thick similar to the split pad.
I got those and those are nice. So nice I bought a second pair. Well worth the $35 I paid.
I had to return my Kinvocas. The dpad had a problem where I couldn’t scroll left or right on my game list without having to press right or left each time to move past each game individually. I guess it was just a defect in my purchase.
I have 2 different different versions of Kyndlan controllers/joycon replacements that are both pretty good. One is similar to the Binbok style, but doesn’t have batteries and only works on the Switch, attached in portable mode. It has full size thumbsticks (which are red) but unfortunately the dpad is loud and clicky. There’s 2 programmable back buttons on each controller and they are very comfortable to hold. I believe the newest version has motion control, but no rumble. They come with a USB cord that slides onto the bottom of the rail for future firmware upgrades.
The other Kyndlan product is very similar to the Kinvoca joycon replacements but with smaller recesssed thumbsticks (which I actually love and prefer over any other thumbstick I’ve used) Something about them just feels great and they are nice and responsive. The other thing I like about the Kyndlan joycon replacements is the center attachment for playing wirelessly while docked. It’s actually weighted, so they don’t feel so light in the hand. The rumble is a bit strong, but it’s interesting how it tries to match the HD rumble with variable amounts of force based on what’s happening in the game. The only real downside to the Kyndlan joycons is that they only come in the Green/Pink Splatoon colors, and I don’t even play Splatoon. But they feel great in the hand, both attached to the Switch and when connected to their wireless attachment. The dpad is also pretty good relatively speaking. It doesn’t seem to have a pivot, but it’s curved up in a way where it is very responsive and diagonals are not an issue. I was able to easily pull off all the basic street fighter 2 moves and it works well on shooters and 2D platformers. The surface of the controllers have a nice soft/smooth texture similar to the OEM Joycons. They have a turbo option, and the last thing I’ll say is each side has 2 macro buttons on the back which can each record up to 16 inputs with one push of the button. It’s pretty cool, but I wish they also had the option for basic programming to simply map a face button, however you can still do that by just recording a single button press very quickly to one of them. I personally highly recommend them, even if they only come in green/pink.
if you take apart the binbok controller supossidly if you take apart the controller and remove a sticker from the dpad it works alot better
What's with the flipped video??? Love the way you actually tested the dpad. Most reviewers don't even know about fighting games.
i absolutely can't relate to anything anyone says about the joycons, they're straight up unplayable for me, incredibly uncomfortable becoming painful within 5-10 minutes my switch has been gathering dust for over a year now it's pretty pointless to have
are there joycons with analog triggers?
Is binbok longer than the split pad pro?
Hori split pad all the way, just need to add gyro controls and they’d be 11/10
How did you get street fighter 2 on the switch
Bit late but you should look into ExtremeRate joycon cases. They are available with a Dpad and are relatively easy to put on (ZR connector is a bitch but rest is ez).
You can fix the d-pad issue on the binbok by opening it and remove four little stickers. Just watch spawnwave's video about this.
They sell updated ones with an improved d-pad now
@@TopazBeast do you know if I can purchase it without PayPal somewhere? I deleted PayPal after the new system and you have to pay tax or something🙈
@@profezzorBALTAZAR I clicked on the PayPal option, then it just told me to put in my credit card information and I never even had to create an account
@@TopazBeast tnx, I'll give it a try:)
@@TopazBeast please send a link to updated ones 🙏🏻
Have you tried the Mobapad 6 Gemini?
If so, what do you think of that?
I don't understand why Nintendo doesn't make a pro controller replacement for joycons. The Hori are close to what I want, however it lacks gyro for fine tune aiming in games like fortnite and using arrows in Zelda
Forgot to tell everyone about the changeable RGB color rings on the Binbok controller thumb sticks. The rumble is very weak as pointed out by other reviews.
Overall, the best choice out there still.
I dont own them myself but the rumble level can be raised and lowered on them with the "M" or "T" + joystick up or down
@@Alliadria Yes. I Forgot about that. Overall, I'm very happy with them. No complaints, except about the different grip they offer.
I tried the smaller ones, but they came in clear. Your hands get fatigued faster and unless you have the textured grips, just a little sweat from your hands makes them slip easily.
So all in all, the bigger Bin Bok joycons with similar texture to the black ones are the best choice for me.
You should try the Nyxi Hyperion dpad you might like it
Any updates on the ultimate switch controller?
guy forgot the possibly fatal flaw on the dobe - the bottom port only accepts charging cables, so if you have let's say an audio stick for bluetooth audio, or a steel series arctis 1, that won't work
Damn, this dude's huge. The Switch looks small in his hands.
Only thing I wish Split Pad Pro had is gyro.
Why are the d-pads on the right of the controllers during face time?
Also, I would really like to see a review for the Contender controller from Retro Fighters, which is essentially their take on a pro controller.
As for what's the best option for handheld play on Switch, my suggestion is not a controller but a grip attachment from Satisfye called the Pro Gaming Grip. It won't fix the issues with the d-pad, but it will make playing the system in handheld mode much more comfortable. They even have a mini-grip, which is a more comfortable version of an official Nintendo comfort grip.
11:00 Spawnwave had the same issue and it was caused by some sticker that he removed when he took the controller apart. It made it better but still pretty bad that you have to take the thing apart to fix it.
Get the 2 updated binbok joycon!
I have the switch works great I just got the hori split pad pro it's amazing so far
I been looking for the perfect joycons too still no luck smh
Can I play let’s go pikachu with the bin bok?
I've been in search of the perfect Switch controller for a long time. I use the SN30 Pro+ at home and the regular SN30 Pro when travelling.
In your video, on the segments where you're filming yourself, the camera seems to be flipped/reversed. This was a little confusing when you were talking about the left stick or right stick as they were flipped round for the viewer.
You said left for both of the analog sticks for #1
Ha! Mirrored footage threw me for a bit!
They seemingly removed the binkbok joycons from Amazon
the reversed camera tripped me out
hori would be the go to joy con if they made them wireless
True
So there is still no good alternative... thanks for the good video
Yes there is, the BinBoks are great! They fixed the dpad with a new version and also added the homebutton wake up feature. But I don't know how good the fixed dpad is cause no one did a comparison yet so I'm going to buy it myself and test it out
@@real_omega9511 how'd the testing go?
@@shanevm2009 perfect controller in my opinion and the dpads really really good. I really couldn't wish more of it
@@real_omega9511 awesome, thanks for the response!
All i want are joycons that don't drift TnT
wow the doge has two left joy sticks!?
Anyone use the nyxi joycons/controller
Man that BinBok looked really promising. Unfortunately, it looks like maybe replacement shell for the joycon that has the D pad is still the way to go to keep all functionality :/
The official Joycons with the ExtremeRate d-pad shell with the Satisfye grip is my absolute favorite way to go portably, but I have a few other options that work pretty well. I like to “Switch” it up once in a while.
Watch spawnwave's video about binbok. He removed some stickers inside and that made the d-pad better
So you mean the left stick right? No, the right, right? Right. No left...right 😐
why do they keep releasing new spit pads with no gyro or rumble lol
Yeah, I didn't come for the switch. I cam to see your long beard I just can't stay focus. Lol
Uhhh was I the only one who got confused when he talked about the first controller. Cuz he says the left one is amazing it feels good. But then he goes on and says but then the left one I don’t understand this at all it’s like plastic and it’s slippery.
I was like wait did I hear that right. The left one is amazing then the left one is not good. Lol 😂
My problem with the Split Pad Pro is the value. It's overpriced for what it is. Not been able to use them remotely. They could've at least include a simple wired centerpiece. But no, they sell one separately for a ridiculous price. If that center piece was cheaper so one could also use them when docked. But the whole set would be like $80 or so. And it's not even wireless.
And man I want a proper D-Pad but they always come with a compromise. It's like you gotta buy a different controller for everything. If only the BinBok controller had a nice D-Pad it would be the closest one to perfect.
This is why I just use the Satisfye grip..it’s the best. Can charge while playing/and use wireless adapters for headphones and get all the fantastic use of the joy-cons..it makes them fit my big hands with no down side at all IMO...it just enhances them to there full potential. Stop wasting $$ on useless 3rd party crap..except the SN30pro. Do you not like the satisfye grip? If so why?
I kinda agree. I love my Satisfye. I bought many of the 3rd party options out of pure compulsion and curiosity and that Binbok D-pad is an easy fix... it feels great once fixed, but is still a little loud. But the Satisfye grip with the legit joycons and a dpad shell is my #1 choice.
Why did you mirror your video? That's very confusing and not needed.
my friend bought the binbok and i didn't have diagonal issues when playing sonic mania though i did think the dpad was really loud. there are times when using the pro controller that i would curl up into a ball while just trying to move left or right. the thing that makes the binbok scary to me is that the lights stay on when you put the switch to sleep and idk what they are doing. unlicensed controller can damage your system and nintendo can block them from working at any time. also they seemed to heat up in my hand quicker than a normal controller if it where not for those things they would be perfect in my eyes
also nitpicking now but they should make the grip have the charge/update port instead of on the controllers themselves but oh well that's a minor complaint
Binbok does have a charge/update port and the d-pad was an easy fix (but still kinda loud unfortunately.) I’ve never felt them even come close to getting warm, but the battery life isn’t great, I can say that. But after having taken it apart I realized the batteries can be replaced and I’m sure there’s better ones out there that’ll work. Luckily they just plug into the board.
Maybe a video like this shouldn’t be mirrored? I just modded my joycon for a dpad an use the satisfye grip. Nice vid tho.
Thicc thumbz 👍
why would you flip the video though?
The Binbok d-pad is such an easy fix... Try putting a little effort into it.
Binbok is out of stock unfortunately. I really wanted one and went to buy and they're out.
@@ClockworkGFX you can buy it from their website, might take longer to ship and might pay a higher price because of the conversion rates. I actually bought the dobe controller for portable mode as I always use a pro controller on the TV. I don't find it as bad as he states but like he said it could just be a me situation where it works perfectly for me
@@skullcrusher_1 sold out there as well..
I am mystified as to why someone can't make a split controller that doesn't have some terrible flaw.
Oh my God why is the video flipped
8-bit do want too much for their form factor there's another company called Joy something that makes it identical freaking controller for twenty bucks well 8-bit do $45 !
that one thumbs down is from someone who noticed the flipflop video and was not me though i do thing that was a bad move. if we still had stars i would give you 4 because otherwise this is a great video
