This is episode 7 from the saga of the vaults we bought at the auction. We spent over $5k, and we're really hopeful to at least break even on this one. We hit the flea market in hopes of making a good portion of the money back, but our epic selling day gets hampered by rain, cheap customers, and thieves looking to steal our goods!

Always ask more than you want so they have room to haggle. The haggling makes them feel like they got a deal and hopefully the process ends closer to what price you were hoping for. Sometimes you may even find that you get more than what you were hoping for. It has been fun watching you and Mike work together, just make sure it ends on a good note for you both.

I love the flea market, we grew up going to the one in San Jose with the big old slide. So many good childhood memories from there, bought my first pair of heels there and first feathered roach clip, lol😃😃👍🏻👍🏻💕💕

Hi Jack, sometimes the people who get things for free or steal them will come back for a refund, whereas other who have little are very honest. It’s all down to the character of the person.
You need a glass case with a lock on it for the high dollar small items. Will stop some the theft.

I haven't been to a flea market in a few years and this video really makes me miss it! We have a couple large indoor flea markets in our area but everyone has gotten to where they're asking regular retail prices for everything. Stinks.

Great video. We had a yard sale and this guy came, looking around. Picked up a book. Carried it around. Books were a quarter mind you. Pretty soon I see him getting into his car. My mom and husband were there. I asked them if he paid them each said no and he hadn't paid me. A quarter, so sad.

Ugh, I hate thieves. Unfortunately, some folks will steal just about anything.
I just have to say, that you guys wear a heck of a lot of hats-bidder, then buyer of the units. Then sorting between regular and high end flea market, setting aside yet a third pile for auction then donations, then throwing away trash and cleaning the unit. Then you have the separate flea markets to set up, man, and take down followed by thrift store and dump runs. Then you do weekly, sometimes biweekly auctions, all the while still going to find auctions for more units. That doesn't even count being a Husband/Wife and Father/Mother... Mad props 👏 Also, congrats to you guys for the new Grandbaby coming-Grandkids are the BEST (I have one who's 3, the little guy in my profile pic), and another Grandson due in March!

Thanks Pat! The diet is going alright. I've lost about 10 pounds in a little over 2 weeks so that's pretty good. Every day is tough, being hungry all the time, but I think I'm managing it pretty good. It's hardest when I'm sitting, when I'm on the move it's much easier.
If you like celery, grab that when you are hungry. It takes more calories to eat celery then what the calories are. Plus they will give you the crunch sound for anything you might need. Bless you and yours!

Question: How do you guys keep watch over things well enough to avoid shoplifting? It seems like a prime place for thieves to flourish.
No way to, really. It's why I try to only bring low end items out there. If someone is going to reduce themselves to a thief for a $1 or $2 item, then that's on them. I find it disgusting, but it is what it is. Worst time is in the morning, when we are trying to unload boxes and keep an eye. They swarm us, hoping to snag a deal, and the thieves love that environment.

Thanks! I actually did bring a lunch, so I didn't go without, just had to be a limited caloric lunch. But it was torture, passing on the cheeseburgers, they are one of the best parts of Stockton flea market!

That's a shame that there's stealing,, fact is I moved away in 2017 the last time and it's gotten worse in Stockton what it was when I lived there and it was bad when I lived there these mugging drugs murders you name it that's why I say watch your back stay safe and may God bless you and your whole family

You addressed the thing I was going to ask you about,,, I seen people rolling clothing and stuffing it inside of their clothes. Then later argue with you over a dollar. Ballsy little peeps. A flea market done right is a new way of working people to buy your stuff.I was little surprised at the amount of money flashing in front of the people and wondered what was going through those crafty minds on how to wait and see if the price goes down. Doesn't matter cause the next clean out will restock your garage sale deal. I think its a good way of earning a living and keeping the mind open learn from different things that they pull..... right there is the makings of a good book deal/LOL. Your addictive an so its still fun..

WE got stuff taken when we only were making a couple of hundred tops and that really hurt.
You've got to take good stuff to good markets because with all that quantity , you will be robbed, even at high end places but
usually not so much.
I really hate it when you ask a fair price and they insult you by wanting it for so much less.
We'd get up in the dark, drive to a market, set up, even in the winter and stand there all day
and come home with maybe a hundred after expenses and have to put up with people trying to bargain us down.
I lost my temper a few times and told the person to go to someone else, I couldn't take it.

I found out dr Lori has a subscription rate so you can get as many pieces want appraised and she can tell you were to even sell the really good pieces. All your costume jewelry, paintings, funky stuff even.

Good video , only bad things is that you change the price a lot when you sell an item. you cannot say $3.00 and than $4.00 that a little bit unfair.

Maybe put the more expensive stuff just right in front of you guys, near the truck so it would be more harder to steal them.I know how you feel, I make jewelry and have had them on flea market(you rent a table) on sale,but lot of them got stolen so I took them all away from there😣😣
Hard to keep it in front of us when we are moving about all over the booth, which consisted of 4 full spaces. Another method is to bring out the valuable small stuff in a different trip, which would be a smaller load and easier to manage and watch. Either way, it just sucks that some people are thieves.

We have a flea market in Concord, which is much closer but only Saturday and Sunday. It's a tad better but not much. All the better flea markets are closed down until Covid ends I guess.

I remember the flea market in Modesto when i use to live in turlock, it wasn't that bad, not like the ones in the bay i heard of. When i lived in Oakley the garage/yard sales were nuts. To be able to pay for a spot and someone to help you then split the money for a day and pocket over $500 is a good day. If you’d donate your items after the flea market instead of throwing it away you could write off part of that in taxes.
Have you ever thought IRS might be watch ing?
I don’t like to watch them play like they don’t understand or you give them a great deal but they still ask for more off and tell you it’s to much. I know that’s how it works but sometimes they just push it to much, it’s sad to watch and gets me upset 😢😖🙁
