I know it may sound redundant, but I would really appreciate an in depth look at the SR7015. I say this because I feel that the 7015 sits in a more friendly price range and also better represents the rest of the marantz line. The 8015 looks amazing but it’s the only one with a toroidal and all those nice features. The other three models seem more similar to each other in that sense. And to see a look into one of them may represent the rest of the line a little better then the flagship. Great video though! I appreciate all the work.

I wanted to consider the SR7015 as well, but I feel like I’m either going to go SR6015 or full hog with the SR8015. I prefer the SR7015 over the SR6015 in every way, but with the new preamp made and me being able to use amplifiers altogether, I feel like the SR7015 is more waste than good.

Gene, Thanks for all of the efforts you put into giving us real testing info and the DIY help. But, it sure would helpful to get your testing and opinions on gear that the majority of can actually buy. Sure a $3000 Marantz is the goal, but a $500 - $700 receiver-amp is more realistic. Kevin, with respect, I have 3 considerations. #1 - Gene's job and value add is reviewing new products and tech for those interested in what's now available. He's sincere, thorough, and good at it. #2 - Yes, the SR8015 is ~$3k MSRP first month of launch. In reality, this receiver will be available for much less in a year, and a gently used one even less so in 2+ yrs and beyond. This excellent review will be alive for all to see beyond the product launch window. #3 - At $3k it's not -that- expensive for a product with a lifespan of 5-7 years or more. $500 a year ain't bad for the value. Incomes rise for many where $3k isn't a huge spend compared to hobbies like classic cars, or boats, and so forth. I mean, how much will you spend on smart phones and data plans in 6 years? My retirement funds fluctuate more than 3k in an afternoon. Ten years ago when my kids were younger I would have scoffed at spending $3k for audio. Today, I'm thinking it would make a wonderful Xmas present.

@@jaygrady9080 Thanks for the feedback and being nice. I also agree with your thoughts. I'm so very happy for all of the people who have been smart enough to work hard, plan ahead and develop an income stream that supports all of their desires. It's just to bad for the rest of us that don't have the smarts or guts to get tons money from others for our bank account. I work seven days a week 10 - 16 hours each day repairing industrial engines, welding machines, generators and other equipment and I am still F'ing broke. I must be broke because everyone says I am too nice and let my efforts, far too often, go for zero dollars. So, it's my own fault for not being able to easily afford $3000 on such nice new products. Honestly, I am grateful for the Denon 5.1 receiver, the 50 watt Audio Source sub woofer and the 70" Sharp TV I rescued from the recycle center over the past several years. Maybe someday some rich guy will toss out a gem of a system that I can bring back from the jaws of death as I will surely be flat broke then to. Thanks again for your insight - time to put my grease stained hands back work.

I had the SR 7015 set up a couple of days ago and am very pleased with it. I'm using it as a preamp that replaced a Rotel that was 35 years old. I went with the Marantz because it has the latest technology and am using the preamp function to go with my Rotel amps (also 35 years old and speaks to the quality of them). I'm on a fixed income now so trying to save money if I have to use the receiver mode.. When the rotel amps die I will use the full receiver function. A couple of suggestions. 1. Have a professional hook it up for you. Today's stuff is a lot more complex and there are no videos or good setup guides from Marantz. 2. I wish the remote was RF. Gene helped in making my decision to go with the Marantz.

I am using 8 of the 9 amps for surrounds and Atmos with monoblocks for the front 3. The AVR has served me well. I believe the SR-8015 will be my next upgrade as it is feature rich over my current one. Thanks for confirming the specs are equal or better than advertised.

HDAM SA2 current feedback topology between preamp and power amp
      22,000uF, 81V capacitors x 2 vs 15,000uF, 73V capacitors (X-6500H)
      Torodial 835VA transformer vs 750VA E-Core (X-6500H)
Separated symmetric construction vs single in-line (X6500H)

Thanks! I had to do a bit of reset after the on line upgrade on my 8015 and that was curious (factory reset?). The ECO nerf is all that and worse. The temp of the unit is the same and less than my 7010 was, which is really an eye opener. Better design as far as I can figure. I now get to run a 7.2.4 in my great room.

no likely since I'm moving soon. 8015 if you're going to use the internal amps to power your front LCR's. If you plan on using external amplification, I'd prob go the 6700 route.

Excellent test Gene. I do have to comment that the channel numbers are getting ridiculous. I get it if you have a large HT room (but then you need highly efficient speakers or additional outboard amps). My room is 12' x 17' and I'm fine with 5.1 (Yamaha DSP-A1, circa 1998) so even with the extra two front speakers and a subwoofer, my room is full. If I stuffed the room with 11 (or 13) speakers they wouldn't fit! Then there is the massive expenditure of the extra speakers and the overlapping soundstages - too much.
It has a place in many HT rooms, just not in mine. What I need is get up to date on technology and get an ATMOS receiver with the latest decoding and internet music channels for my small room....like a Denon X4700H. Two channel ATMOS, thank you 😊

Been loving your videos forever Gene... I own and love this receiver. Recently my other Marantz SR7015 after a month of ownership, made a loud pop, and stopped working-only a blue ring. Was connected to a Belkin Pure AV conditioner, with Emotiva powering the 3 fronts. Any idea how or why this happened? Definitive D17's up front, D5c center and Mythos surrounds. No smoke, no smell, just a loud pop. Sent back and considering a Denon to replace. Thank you!!

Thanks for great testing of the amplifiers, but these machines are so much more, do you plan to do any testing of the video performance? I experienced many problems with audio sync via HDMI with the new 6700H, a sister product. I have heard from my local dealer that the HDMI handshake is problematic with this unit as well. Would love it if you would try testing the ability of the receiver to lock onto the HDMI signal and maintain the lock. I am guessing I am asking for too much :) Thanks again for the great testing and presentation.

I am personally trying to rationalize the cost of the SR8015 because I’ve wanted a super receiver since I bought my first decent receiver (Yamaha RX-V1000) way back in 2000. I used to drool over the RX-Z7 and RX-Z11 and the SR8015 gives me that same fizz.

Does using "Pure Direct" bypass any digitization of the RCA analog inputs on this (and the Marantz AV8805A, while we are at it)? I don't mean the multi-channel input for an old school SACD/DVD-Audio multi-channel wiring scenario, by the way, if it even still has that. I mean good old, L and R RCA analog INs. Thanks, Gene.

    Hi Gene!!
I have just recently moved down in Pasco. Thank God you beat Covid!!
I have a question/ issue I had a new Onkyo rz830 and it just went belly up and now that there in limbo with new owners there buying my unit back. I had an Onkyo 808 and it went bad too back 3 years ago. So now I am looking for a new Reciver and looking at this beast. Just making sure I am not going to destroy my speakers. Polk s35 center /S60 (Left/Right & BiAmp)
And Polk 80F/X-LS f or Atmos and rear surround (4 total) .
    And HTS10 subs (2).
Just want to know if the Marantz8015 is it over kill or just about right.
    Thanks again

From what I hear and read those Onkyo's have the tendency to go belly up at some point.. their sound quality is fine.. ( I prefer Marantz though) but the quality on the Onkyo's isn't what it used to be... I don't think there is such a thing as overkill in Audio...as long as you can afford it :P Of course it is overkill to by a cheap satellite system with a small sub and expect it to sound better if you go to a receiver like the SR8015.. But if you are running a quality full range system it's always better to have more power available to you than less power. The more power and better capacitors an amplifier ( or receiver ) has, the easier it will be to control your speakers, accelerate fast from silent to loud passages, but also the other way around.. you will NOT destroy your speakers by running a more capable amp on them than what the speakers are rated for (unless you crank up the volume to maximum all the time), but you will much more easily destroy them if you use an underpowered amp to drive them.. once an amp starts clipping the regular signal turns to basically heat.. burning your speakers internals. I think that if you are willing and able to spend the money on an SR8015, it will be a great match to your system. Actually it's a great match for most of us "Audiophiles" with space concerns, as we do not all have an extra man-cave room available to us to be able to decorate that as a dedicated listening room. Most of us will have everything in the living room, where the Wife acceptance factor also becomes "a thing" :))

    Amazon Marantz Customer Support]
Marantz does not own any service centers. All of them are independent contractors... [Marantz] does not have our own parts inventory. We have a separate company that handles that for us. It is a company called Encompass and if they do not have the parts needed for the repair then the unit is deemed not repairable. In truth, nothing is unrepairable. It is just that because parts that are not available would have to be made, the cost of the repair would be more prohibitive than the cost to buy a new unit. So it is not worth repairing. If United Radio told you the unit can not be repaired what they meant was that replacement parts are not available and it would cost you more to repair it than it is worth.Marantz does not have an obligation to any of its units outside of their warranty period. We still provide phone and email support as a courtesy. And it is not so much that they will not accept the unit, they just know for old units there are not likely to be parts available and they do not want you to waste your time shipping it to them if that is the case.[End of Email from Marantz]A couple of things to note here. First, Marantz doesn’t make the parts - another company makes them. There’s no contractual obligation from the parts manufacturer and Marantz to offer parts for any period of time to support their products even their reference series.Second, Marantz makes it completely obvious that the Authorized Service Centers that they direct you to are completely unaffiliated with Marantz and have no obligation to even accept certain units for repair. This is exactly what happened to me - their regional service center wouldn't even accept the unit for repair. They say that nothing is irreparable - well, obviously all my receivers are.Third, Marantz clearly states that it does not have an obligation to any of its units outside of their warranty period. Unlike car or watch manufacturers who will gladly repair your unit for a fee , Marantz’s interpretation is that they have no obligation to even offer a means or a service center to repair the unit. You’re on your own - it’s Saab time and the factory is shut down. This is very disconcerting for what are considered by many audiophile grade receivers - it would be fine if we’re talking about a $500 receiver but not okay for $3,000+ receivers.Like many of you, I was planning to upgrade to the 8015 but I can't buy it if it will not be repairable 5 years after I buy it and I definitely don’t want to squabble about the existence of parts with Marantz if something happens. If there are no parts, this receiver will be completely unusable and I'll end up with 3 of the most expensive bricks I've owned. I'm sharing my story with you to make sure that this doesn't happen to you.I know that a few of you will think that I got plenty of life out of my receiver and I did and I love the sound of the receiver but the option to repair it should rest with me, not Marantz. I was lucky I had a spare 8001 and could use that but not everyone here will be in that situation where they have a 8012 lying around and certainly spending another $3,000 to replace the same model is not something I would like any of you to have to do. And let me tell you, my back has paid the huge price dealing with the broken receiver. One service center accepted it, charged me but didn’t fix the receiver. You don’t want to hear Marantz’s response.
