Save The Cat! Weld On A Flange
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 вер 2024
- In this video I help a customer out by replacing the rotted-out exhaust flanges on her 2015 Honda CRV. Convertors in NY are really expensive because we are forced by the government to purchase C.A.R.B. certified convertors regardless of the emission package the car came equipped with from the factory or we can face a fine of $25,000. (no joke look it up)
At any rate this is an easy fix and will last her a long time.
-Enjoy!

AFTER saving the customer money with a great repair , the Snap On guy EMPTIED Eric's wallet ! 😂
Perfect observation!!😂. Nice.
At $100 a week for life from his paycheck
Paycheck collection truck!
Or why Josh is working so hard in the other bay, $200 month for the younger guy just getting started.
I know you run an honest full service shop but I feel like your trouble shooting skills are waisted on exhaust work. Then again I also feel like your trouble shooting skills are waisted on cars.
As a Saturday night mechanic I’ve made that repair with split flanges ... no welding and those hold on for a few years.
That snapon truck is the real money light.
They all are!!!
They owe Eric money now for advertising 😊
I actually am a certified welder Eric, and your welds look really good actually. Haters gonna hate.
It is refreshing to see a Repair and a good skillset, Great work and the welds Look Great. Torch skills look great also. Keep up the good work.
I was thinking the same especially for welding on rusty old exhaust pipe lol
Retired welder here. And have said the same a number of times.
75 year certified welder here and I concur with your statement
Now that is a professional backyard fix welds look good I use to teach welding
First of all this is why you are so busy, You take care of the people in your community you just save this customer a boat load of money and did a very nice repair! Second another shop would have empty their bank account! Nice job Eric!
You may not be a “certified” welder but you’re a magician with that torch!
¡Un escultor de la antorcha"...!!! (y certificado) 😄
You'll never see Eric O's welding on "Just Rolled In".
The effort you do to save your customers some dollars is amazing They're just are not mechanics like that out there anymore. Most shops would have just cut the converter off sold a new converter a new pipe send them down the road with a $1,500 bill.
I watch this channel just as much for the wholesome relationship between eric and mrs. O as i do the mechancial aspect of it
Thanks Mrs. O for keeping Eric alive, he would keel over within a few days!
To me it's way more gratifying to repair rather than replace! Great job! Thanks for taking us along again!
Real Technicians/Mechanics "Repair";..... snot nosed newbies/dealers "replace".....!
@@kpdvwunless the labor/parts to repair is more than it is to replace.
You get a thumbs up because the lovely Mrs O. made a special appearance. You saved the owner of the vehicle about a $1,000.00
" Heart attack in a Sack". Truer words have never been spoken.
the backlit slit going away with the weld is a neat shot
I thought so too
That was pretty cool.
Reminded me of the recent eclipse. Awesome show.
I was wondering if anyone else noticed that....I was watching in awe, as I'm no welder, I just enjoy the show.
"You don't need to be a welder if you have a grinder."
You don't need to be a carpenter if you install molding!
😂😂
yes i was always suspect of ground off welds . real welders were proud of their beads
"a grinder, and paint, make me the welder i aint!"
And in my young restaurant working days, the night manager used to say "A good Mopper, needn't be a good sweeper!" lol.
Eric, you and Ray are a rare breed indeed, always trying to help the customer save some of their hard earned money and doing things RIGHT. In a world full of greed, it just goes to show you that there are still some people who actually care. Have a great weekend my friend👍
Great repair, and as always looking out for the customer and saving the customer money on parts. Love to see you and Ms. O. I can appreciate the statement I can’t live without that woman! My wife and I, will celebrate 51 years this July, 6TH. Nothing better than a good woman by your side. Keep the videos coming
Always a good day when you get to see Eric O pull out the cutting torch!
Yes sir and the fact he has no hair on his arms is a clue he uses it a lot.
Yep Eric and Vic are the bestest of friends
I hung iron for 10 years and believe me I have seen some pretty bad welders. You are better than some certified welders I have seen. Anyone that is in an occupation that requires welding can definitely validate my claims. Nice work sir bravo.
Always nice to see Mrs O.
Nice to watch somebody, that knows what they're doing. Good work, Eric
I couldn't understand why you were spending so much time with aligning the new flange to the old since both sides were going to be replaced. Then I realized you were doing it to keep the factory position so if the pipe in front of the Cat was changed it would still fit without modifying it. Smart!
Luna needs her own channel
The man with many talents! Not certified, my eye! Awesome job brother 😊
He was doing it with his eyes closed. 😅
Mr. O Love watching you and have nothing but respect. I'm an automotive technician myself. It worries me to see you working with you wedding ring on! Every automotive instructor and trainer I've ever had say leave it at home! I'm sure you are aware, I'm just concerned for your finger. Thank you for creating such informational and entertaining content.
Never understood why Honda can make the pipe last so long but not the flanges. Nice repair sir!
You get two thumbs up, one for the video and one for Mrs. O for being one in a million, an awesome wife, mother, and shop manager...👍👍
Nice job there Eric ..and a bonus for the customer in saving her some serious coin.. Kudos.
great job on that fix. plus, you keep all the car show judges happy. A man of many talents. 😂
As a welding inspector at the plant I work at, I can say with certainty that if you submitted a welding coupon to me I would have no issues with it. Let's face it Eric, you have stated you have no training in car repair either but that doesn't seem to affect your ability to satisfy a customer. As far as facing a fine for not replacing a catalytic convertor with a C.A.R.B (the fine folks at the California Air Resources Board) certified unit, I know you would never do that at all. I know your letters on your New York State Inspection sign is the right color as well. Just think of the satisfaction you have for your contributions to the greater good. GREAT VIDEO!
Eric, I envy your torch skills. You saved that customer a lot of money.
Nice job!! And that ladies and gents is the difference betweeen a real mechanic and a parts changer. This guy saved the customer some serious cash.
Your welding is 1000 times better than what I've seen on "Just Rolled In". You have nothing to worry about.
What kind of compliment is that lol a monkey with a harbor freight mig flux core welder on the wrong heat and feed settings without prepping the surface could probably do a 5 times better weld than most of those lol
@@PeterTrimboli take it how you want, I just want Eric to know he's git nothing to apologize for. To hell with comment trolls, why buy into the negativity?
An artist with the gas axe. Another pro repair.
Nice you take the time to help your community save money…That’s extremely rare.
Ha! If you saw my "gorilla" welding you would go get your certs. Ugly is not the word for my welding.....but it is not gonna fall apart! Bless you for being a good guy and helping when you can. Your little city should be proud to have you. They are lucky to have a true craftsman who believes in doing good work and taking care of the customer when possible. Keep on keeping on!!
i wish more shops would do this, excellent way of saving money and keeping the OEM cat, not aftermarket junk
A man who takes pride and time to do a job right and help out his customers to save a few bucks. Well done sir. In a time where i think everyone is struggling a little with money, you come thru. Thank you for another great video.
Sadly, your “the best we can do”, is waaay better than 90% of other mechanics absolute best day!
It's nice to know a shop that will weld on flanges or splice in a piece. A couple of weeks ago I sent a friend to another shop because I knew he would fix instead of replace her exhaust. A new muffler and converter flange welded on and no need to replace the entire system.
One of my old welding teachers did the old no-look plug weld to show me how easy it was 😂 of course it’s easy when you have 25 years experience lol “peeky boo” lol I never get tired of this channel.
That guy over on the left wall is just as surprised as us viewers at your unparalleled welding capabilities!
There’s nothing better than a cup of coffee in the morning with a dash of the comment generator ! Nice salvage repair job. 👍
Eric best thing about your welding skills is that you are prepared to use them to save your customers money nice job my friend well done
Hope you got some lunch.
All right! We got welding, we got Mrs. O., AND we got a saved cat!
Had a shop tell me years ago I needed a new cat because they wouldn't weld in a short pieced of pipe where the pipe rusted off the cat. I declined, went elsewhere, and got the patch job done.
great mechanic....been watching for seven years now
for a NON welder Eric, you do a mighty fine job.
NASCAR approved and "Girls I run with" approved both. Now that is Top Notch stuff right there! 👍 I found that "Doing the best we can" was always my motto at work, and served me well for the most part. Great job saving the customer some money!
I just fake it till I make it
@SouthMainAuto
You do awesome work! Always doing what's best for customer. So many shops could care less and charge astronomical fees for bs. You do amazing job to keep customer on road. Cheers from Pennsylvania
Let’s face it all us mechanics are not all certified but we are all certifiable! 😂
A grinder and paint makes me the welder I ain't. 😅 Good job Mr E
Great job savings on the catalytic converter, she's going to be happy 😊.
.... Any SMA video with weld in the title is an instant watch. awesome content good sir.
I have to admit that I have a big smile on my face when the torch comes out, so many memories and the fine tuning with the torch makes me envious.
Eric holds the torch like a fine artist holds a paint brush, masterfully
It must be surreal to watch your car being worked on on Eric's channel, and hear him talking about how it's going to look at the car show. :) Great video, thanks for posting!
As a retired nuclear weld inspector, I’ve got to say that your welds, look TREMENDOUSLY better than A LOT of welds I’ve inspected from actual certified nuclear welders. Phenomenal job Eric and good for you and your customer that you protected him from the car show judges. He shouldn’t lose any points for your exhaust work on that Honda! Mrs. O did a great job as well!!
God bless~
Mud dobbers could have done a better job than some of the coupons submitted to me.
@@lvsqcsl haha yeah I know what you mean. A lot of the times I’d go out to inspect the job and I’d be wondering how they passed the qual test to even get hired.
I always like the comment about using the sawzall to make the cut and then immediately pulling up the torch.
Dunno if Sir will see this comment but regardless. Thank you for all the lessons taught Sir. I appreciate you.
Old Vic has been taking the show on the last few videos. He's an exhaust machine
We had fire, fluid film and a love scene! What more could you asked for… oh and the car was fixed 😂😂😂
“The Last Action Hero” 😉
Thank you for staying true to yourself, your craft and your customers. I wish there were more mechanical wizards like you. Cheers from B.C. Canada
Once again, Nice Work! Not too many mechanics would do this repair. Most just want to throw new parts at it. Old School Rules!
I like your “money light “ shop sign 😂😂
Very great job ! You saved your customer a lot of money ! Thanks Eric for your experience! Handyman Dave!
Great job Eric. Saved that customer some money!
You are always doing a great job Eric!
Couldn’t ask for a better automotive channel.
Being humble certainly issues hard thing to do but you are a real class act.
Keep up the great work!
Watching SMA videos is like a day off from work.
You just saved that customer alot of money!
It was cool seeing the light disappear when you welded on the inside rim of the exhaust!
I’m a younger mechanic and I patch mufflers and do stuff like this too when it makes sense. A lost art in the world of today.
Stop dogging your welding abilities , you're all good. As a retired Asian car tech I can say you are one of a very few people I would fully trust to fix my car
Really like the your car show remarks and the uncircumcised welding going on.
I have so much respect for your skills as a mechanic, a UA-cam and a husband. But please remember electric arcs emit a lot of UV, need to cover up that skin.
So does the sun 🤷♂️
Thanks! Some day I’ll drive thru town and beep so I can be “that guy”!
😂👌🏼
From one uncertified welder to another you sir made that look effortless another outstanding job Mr.O
Glad you liked it
As a guy who's been called certifiable a few times myself, I approve of this message.👌
Nicely done!
Definitely no points lost on this flange job.🤙
What do you mean I can't use JB weld, I had a friend...... I do enjoy the humor that you interject brother, enjoy your time in the PRNY. Glad that I did not go back home when I retired out of the service.
Love the money light on the back wall. I would think that those flanges could warp after the long continuous welds. The welds look awesome though. I still think you’re the BEST. Aaron from Canada
Hi ERIC ,that was an excellent repair. Both good for your customer for the shop{easy and clean} and good for the environment.Your MIG skills are good,I've welded for 30 years and can say mig is the easiest, since it does overhead like that pipe easy. But the fact that you did the inside after your tack in place ,was how it should be done. The job was done correctly,i approve, haha Your customer no doubt was very grateful.thanks
Thanks 👍
I'm a lube technician at a dealership, we use pit style bays that also have lifts. The fact that I was able to replace my rear shocks & diff fluid well standing, was a luxury. I was even able to torque the bolts to spec with the truck on the ground.
Nice job Eric - always impressed with your approach to repairs.
Eric and Vic are a great team! Thanks yall!
That CRV is deserving of a nice coat of FluidFilm on the underside.
Thanks for the warning Eric, almost stared into that welding arc. That could have been bad
Two thumbs up because the lovely Mrs O. made a special appearance.
I never knew my dad was a welder till I was going through his things and found his certification card.
As always, a fix that keeps the customer with grocery money and the problem eliminated. Enjoy your channel, don’t always comment, but always watch. I like Western NY it is beautiful but almost impossible to earn a living. I am glad you practice your trade, hopefully, at a profit.
Not bad Eric o, great work for a guy who isn't certified and didn't spend one day in welding school. You learn how to fix cars and trucks the old-fashioned way just like me!!!
True Auto Technician when humor is envolved
Welder sounds like it's tuned to perfection 🥰
That sizzling bacon sound. Maybe that's why I'm hungry after welding.
I bet your welds look better than some "certified" welders. Always nice to see the lovely Mrs. O. Another great video Eric.
We have the same certifications in welding. Rock on Mr. O.
We have a Nissan NV work van at the shop that had the cat outlet flange break off. The cost for a new converter was ridiculous, so I took the truck home and welded the flange back in. That was 3 years ago and still going strong. I wish more shops looked out for the customer more.
Are those hanger rubber pliers new? I don’t think I’ve seen you use those before. Very effective though. It’s very kind of you to do these sorts of jobs that save people money but are probably not money earners for you. You are an honest and genuine bloke. All the best to you and your family from Australia.
In my part of Canada, finding shops willing to weld exhausts is harder and harder to find. Most places would rather sell you a whole new assembly!
Sad 😢
Many shops would’ve sold the lady a complete cat-back. She’s lucky you’re a good dude.
Very nice job…a good garage is a hard find. Martin's in Wayland saved my butt more times than I care to remember doing this same work. Had those good folks taken that baby to one of those “muffler shop” they’d have to take out a second mortgage.
What a beautiful sunday morning here in Oz Mr O ole vic & a top notch welding job can not ask for more.
Bought a pair of exhaust pliers after seeing you use them best money I ever spent
i was hoping eric was going to break out the flexi tip welder on this one. Also, Welding this without a lift on jackstands on your back with tons of sparks falling out you is real fun.
I have the same welding certification and that has not hindered me from fixing or welding whatever I have to. Looks to me like you are doing good work and saving people some money at the same time and that is a good thing. Peace.
Orange “Uncertified Welder present” sign on the wall was funny. 😂
I wish I have a trusty shop like yours where I live so I can take my vehicles for repair! Great video! 👍
Eric, your weld around that converter flange looks better than many of the name brand header pipe welds I've seen. Nice work.
