22:55 - similar story, my grandparents got us 'Terminator 2' for Christmas on VHS and when mom finally came in (around when Xander Berkeley gets skewered in the face) she made us turn it off. The video got returned and exchanged for 'Dr. No' lol!
I learned recently that this one has a HUGE cult following. I saw full-on toy statues of the alien in another UA-camrs video as a collectors item. I was like "HUH". So weird but its an enjoyable flick!
Yes I agree. I’d never thought you’d review something so off the wall crazy like Xtro. I’m so glad you did this one. Did you know there’s 2 more. Loved this review
The Woman giving birth to a full grown man sounds like it should be the main climax of the film, as oppose to just disposing of the woman as if she was nothing, let alone a Alien impregnation being treated as if it was no big deal. That scene alone is a whole topic for a movie given our current serious treatment of Rape as a issue rather than just shock value or twisted fan service. For a similar film, there's also 1981's Inseminoid.
If you think about it, a lot of the alien movies from the 80's and early 90's were kind of allegories for the r word. Alien being a painfully obvious one.
Oh man, I love these bad movie reviews so much! I literally laugh until I have tears at some of the shit you guys say. Freakin’ hilarious. 😂 I get more laughs out of your videos than most of today’s so-called comedy films. You guys are the best! 😂😂👏🏻
I remember having a sleep-over at a friend's house when I was 10 and I picked this from the video store and my friends dad got so pissed and put a stop to us watching this 1- I think it was something involving a birth scene(?)
I met the poor guy who had to play the alien at a convention long ago. He hated doing the long scenes crab walking with a mask covering his view. The director wanted multiple takes and he was furious about it.
I watched the movie as a kid as well. Back in elementary school. The classic story. Classmate’s older brother had the movie on tape and we watched it secretly after school. Only thing I remembered til this day was the giving birth scene. So thank you for the review.
The birth scene is one of the most upsetting scenes I've ever witnessed, while the film does have some silly aspects, it's important to remember this thing was made on a shoestring budget, but that one scene is fairly notorious. And the film largely carries a fairly grim tone throughout, that's why i rarely come back to give it a rewatch lol. It was considered the evil version of E.T, I think that was the tagline on the VHS.
I watched this film when I was 10 and I still get random dreams about it. I've seen hundreds of horror films but the first 20 minutes of this are really unsettling. The creature in the woods is really effective for a low budget
18:43 those aliens basically dropped off a friggin perverted member of their species, or a member of a different species. I bet the other aliens who dropped that little s#%t off were like “Yeah you’re getting da f&$% outta here! This is for being a friggin pest!”
The director, Harry Bromley Davenport, is a cool guy. He posted on the IMDb discussion board (back when those existed) for Xtro, answering questions and whatnot, and we chatted a bit in the comments section of a review I made for Xtro back in the day.
Lol if I watched this movie and my mom saw the man being birthed out she would be like "Oh that is just a normal Friday night for my daughter.... Yeah she is always watching crazy crap! Pay her no mind..."
When I was a kid I used to see the poster for this at the local cinema for weeks when it was out and it terrified me but I became kind of obsessed at the same time. Never actually got around to watching it though. Seeing it here tells me one thing; it really was not the movie I was expecting either in my head or what I thought would be on screen. Instead, it sounds way stranger than either of those. Great review, and now I don't know if I ever actually _need_ to see the full thing!
It's too bad, with some polishing on the script and effects, I could see this being a true horror classic. I guess it has a cult following as it is but you can see this had some really potential to be more.
Horror needs and depends on lapses in judgement. Otherwise, the stories won’t happen. The best of the genre uses these moments so sparingly, you’d be hard pressed to notice them. Xtro ain’t one of those. It just keeps heaping the stupid on you until it breaks the suspension of disbelief and becomes a dark comedy with gore and boobs. Xtro’s not a great horror movie, but it sure is an entertaining watch. Once again, gore, boobs and insanity.
I felt like I was the only person in the world who ever saw this movie! And, yes, it's every bit as weird as Korey says it is. I'd like to see them do a review of Rawhead Rex.
The Power in the trailer they called it Black Magic from deep space. I saw this film at the theaters with the movie Harlequin, was the worst $1.50 Ive spent that year. I still get jammed up about that.
Can we just mention the XTRO movie trailer? As disappointing as the film was, the trailer is awesome mostly because of the voice-over work of actor Adolph Caesar, who also did the trailers for A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, BLACULA, and THE DARK CRYSTAL to name a few.
The old lady neighbour became famous in the UK not long after this movie for playing one of the main characters in the long running soap opera Eastenders.
My cousins rented this and I saw part of it...the part with the blood-that's paint-thick-coming from under the bed...or was that in Xtro-2? Either way I didn't remember much of it, but in 8th grade I would sit at the back of the bus telling made-up stories of Xtro sequels involving M. Bison and Wolverine and a whoooole bunch of nonsense, it was fanfic without the website and the other kids ate it up. 1997 was a wild time for me.
@@devinmorse9112 I forgot that part. Bloody hell! The mainstream press are scumbags. Finding scapegoats everywhere. Blame humanity's rotten apples on Child's Play 3 or Marilyn Manson. Riiight.

Ohhhhh Korey same shit for me. I was 6 or 7 and asked my mom to rent this. 10 min in she stopped the tape and yelled at me and asked me why I would want to watch such a thing! And for like years afterward she would bring it up.
I accidentally downloaded it because I was bored and was trying to get xtro 2. It is great movie. I watched all 3 now and they are all great. Thanks for clearing up that already in the house, yes I guess that would explain why it was there after locking the doors. Originally I just thought there was an alien kind of way it got in. BTW as it stands right now you can watch all 3 directly off of uploads to youtube that no one has taken down yet. Maryam d'Abo in fact does not seem to be French, but closer to being Russian. She was in France in her childhood though.
cmon now, xtro is legit horror classic. it seems like every big youtube critic idea of a bad film is just horror, sci-fi or fantasy film that fully embraces its genre roots instead of ironically poking fun at itself like every modern genre flick does nowadays. Marvel humor and the current industry's bastardization of satirical & meta humor ruined everything.
“You’re out of your FUCKING MIIIIND!!!!”
My favorite quote from this movie
As a white British person, I can confirm that this is exactly how we'd react to all of this

Billy’s reactions and responses are pure gold. If I hear that cackle in the intro, I’m rolling up before I watch the video.
It cheers me up in spite of the dark-as-hell film content.
Anytime I see Billy in the review, I know I'm gonna be in it for the long haul.

This is one of those special kind of bad movies that has solid practical effects but a completely ridiculous story.
As far as B-movies go, XTRO is at least the more component of the bunch.
That 1 second shot of that creature on the side of the road is gnarly to this day
It more component than 1978 “The Swarm”
@@theskepticalskeptic the costume design is fairly unsettling right? They pulled off the effect they were trying to create for the audience.
