Hey Gio my dear friend, thank you for the great information. I'm planning to go to Dipolog in the next few months. Thank you for sharing brother.😊 😊 😊 😊 😊 ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Thank you for mentioning Tagum City. I know it well having grew up in the area. It's good to have a fresh set of eyes to appreciate our hometown. I have a 250 sq m lot near the new city hall that I planned on building a home after retirement.
Bayawan is a nice city, but one thing I found, when I went out to the Beach, which was my main reason to go there, there are poisened Yellyfish in the Water. So sad...
Doing a SRRV visa currently. US militery retired. Must be 50 yrs of age, must have apostiled DD214, Verification letter for pension at least $1,000, a current statement showing proof of pension, police report from home of record, Mine was from Guam, medical current record, this must be done before coming to the Philippines. And now i have an appointment with NBI clearance, Fees with JRC consultancy P 28,000 at $500. Then you must have the Fee to DFA $1,500 for the actual visa itself and at the end of your first year an annual fee of $20 is required.
I did a routine health checkup in Dipolog the doctor told me that my gall bladder was full of stones and needed to be operated on as soon as possible he recommended a hospital in Cebu because I don't have any. symptoms I went. to Dumagate and did another test the result showed that my gallbladder is one hundred percent Normal😎
There are a lot of expat in pundaquit Zambales San Juan in LA Union San Fernando or Angeles because it's near CLARK Airbase Baguio because it's cold try to visit the north it has a lot of options
I was in Dumaguete(a little to slow for me) in early march. In November next up will be Cebu and the surrounding area for 3 weeks. Then 1st quarter 2024 I think I’m going to go north of Manila and explore that area. At that point I’ll put a pause on the Philippines and give Thailand a look.
I've checked out four Thai cities for a total of two months since April, and I'm looking to move to Jomtien. I've never been to the P.I's, but will visit Cebu once I have a 1 BR in Thailand
Yes Iloilo city is a place to be considered to retire. Everything is in minute drive to many great hospitals. great Univerties, a school for kids. They have decent malls also and S&R . You can go hiking to little baguio called bucari leon, Antique anda few hours drive to Boracay. Guimaras island. Sicogon Island for island hopping Islas de gagntes.
I am definitely considering the city of Iloilo when my stay in Thailand is over in a few months not a fan of Manila, Angeles or Cebu been there done that.
My GF and I visited Cagayan de Oro in June. I loved the fact that 15 minutes on a motorbike and you can get up into the hills/mountains where it is cooler. Not a beach area though. My GF is from Cebu City so I am going to start out near Ayala Mall when I retire in October. Close to everything I need and only 15 minutes to get up into the mountains. Also the flights to explore the Philippines from Cebu are cheap.
I just spent a month in CDO in Oct/Nov and found it to be a great city to enjoy. Rented an apartment in the Centrio tower next to the Centrio mall and found it to be extremely convenient to be in the city center near the major malls. The trip included a side trip to Bohol (we took the ferry service rather than fly because the cost was so much less). I plan to go back to CDO in March/April for another month with side trips to Manila, Thailand and Camiguin Island. On my last trip I flew into Cebu rather than Manila when entering the country and will do the same on my next trip. Just far less stressful.
Gio, that tip about having your filipina go check out : apartment, condo, house, hotels, furniture, electronics....etcetera. Is spot on, because exactly that one simple reason? SKIN TAX. I also suggest learning a little bit of the local dialect, if you're in the province. Not everyone will speak or understand English. Do happen to have a review of top provinces to live in Cebu? Thanks again for this video. Liked and subscribed. ✌️🐻
Of course local understand English and can speak too. Only those drop out of school can’t speak. English is our second language in the Phil’s. For your info. I’m based in Chicago…many Spanish speaking..
Thankful for this video...am a filipina with an american partner for 8yrs now and we are still looking until now where is the best place to settle here in PH soon...right now were still exploring, taking time...we used to live in our area in Surigao City but due to supertyphoons we needed to moved to another city called BUtuan city...but probably after here we will also try Dumaguete City as its always my number 1 choice to visit since I learned for awhile already that its a friendly city ....also i still love living in an area with plenty of trees☺️am someone who loves country living ....but being an island girl, born and raised yes.. also i knew that its necessary to choose a place thats accesible to good hospitals and clinics and yes for other commodities of course a .safer place and clean...and hopefully not so prone to strong typhoons ....
Just a point, you saying about getting a Filipina to look at a Condo for you and negotiate. Unless a lease agreement has been signed, the landlord is under no obligation to rent it to you at the ageeed price with your Filipina gf. They can and will jack the price back up as soon as they see you

Gio, when you moved, did you sell / give away furniture and personal belongings? I’m getting close and I may store more expensive items, but the rest I think I’m going to give most away to people that can use it. Any tips?
I lived in digos and its a nice place and you can easily get fresh vegetables, fruits and a bit cheaper than bigger cities Edited: But i love Davao than Digos 😊

Hello Gio! I was planning on coming back out to the Philippines for the 2nd time. the 1st time I stayed 19 days Sept. 30 -Oct. 19 2023. This time I was planning on 3 month March 30- June 30 2024. I was signing up to get a visa. The 1st time I was out I met the Filipina I was chatting on line with for 14 mos. So far things have gone well with her. Without dating multiple women, which can be a pain. I'm taking easy with her within a year I may consider her more seriously if things continue to work on out.
Hey Gio , I know you said you were thinking about expanding on this list. Could you do a few places in Central and northern Luzon for some of the cities that are compatible to the cities you mentioned in the southern regions.
Not being sure where to live I did send my partner and her parents to Iloilo to compare different places to live. She found a fantastic condo with amazing prices I thought she was going to choose it. But she liked BGC better so I will be moving to BGC early August. BGC was my first choice anyways because of St Luke's before I even started speaking with her so all is good. Thanks for the update
Currently, looking around trying to see where to live first. Compare province to city. Completed my pilgrimage to Civet coffee in Mactan Newtown. Found out boots on the ground doesn't work very well for me, hahaha. Ferry to Leyte got canceled due to the typhoon, so I'm trying to figure out my next step.
Mindanao is really low cost, not to mention fresher air. When I transferred here in Central Luzon, the municipality I live doesn't even have a mall, hospital or a bank, just small clinics and bazaars. I need to go to the nearest city to get things done. But the rental and food prices, are generally much more expensive. Sometimes double. Can't wait to go back to my hometown.
For me is still manila I came from a good and decent place of manila everything is very convient. And we have house and business so I love manila we have vacation house on batangas close to manila.. I'm. Happy I'm able to retired at the age of 40 happy best thing I did
Thanks Gio! Again a very informative video. I would have liked some pictures of each city to go with your video, so we could get a better idea of what these places look like. Have you ever been to Leyte? Quite a few interesting places there too, like Ormoc, Albuera and Baybay. Also there are not too many expats which lowers the price of rentals and you can dine out very well for less than $10.
how about a good layed back place with amenities like malls and hospitals , but fairly closeby a major airport to fly back and forth to the States . Not Urban, not provincal ..like a suburb ...
I wonder if you could clarify something you said you mentioned that the Retirement Military visa applies to nations other than the US? The reason I ask is I was in the RAF(UK) and was under the impression that wouldn't qualify me
I am currently researching to see if I would like to come over and see if I would like to make a move there. I have just started the research and want to save this video as a resource but UA-cam isn't allowing me. Is there a reason your video can't be saved? Oh yeah, thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Hi Gio. Have you seen now, in Western society, less and less men want to get married? Marriage rates are falling as men start waking up. Marriage only benefits women and lawyers. Why would you sign a contract that can destroy your life but simultaneously enrich the other person's life, especially if they cheat on you? Marriage is a gamble. Would you gamble your 401k on the flip of a coin, No you wouldn't, but thats what you do when you get married.
Marriage is a difficult decision no matter whether you living in the West or in the Philippines. It requires a lot of careful consideration. Me personally I have a Phillpina I'm dating presently. . I've been praying a lot for the right decision concerning who I should marry. Of course you have to be a Christian who believes & trust God to guide you in your selection of a wife.
Nice job Gio. I’ve read some of the comments. You’ve done the legwork but cannot cover every aspect of each city without turning this into a 2 hour video. I suggest those who show interest in those areas to look at a map, see if it’s in an area that you prefer, be it coastal or inland, and do your own due diligence. UA-cam for a visual and Facebook Market Place to check rental prices. And like you Gio, hotel, motel or AirBnB it to do your boots on the ground. Anyway getting off my soapbox. Everyone have a great day…!!! 🎉😊
What's the best website or approach to finding out what rentals are available? Are the listed places more expensive? Is it better to hunt for rental housing or apartments by just going around the area?
GIO i waa following you for a while and i take your advice when i do come there to retire but nt from America or Canada or england am from the Bahamas we do have lots of flipinos over here as Maids and nurses just wondering the visa situation if i come there to retire the cost of liveing here is so high compared to Philippines thats because we close to USA but i guess i can come on a tourist visa any way gio keep up the great blogs always a pleasure to watch your videos
I would have loved to hear about the general cost of living. I get that it will change as it develops but numbers would have helped. But based on the last part of the video I guess that might be hard and timely to do and be accurate with that whole skin tax thing.
All well and good - but the prices ? How much exactly does it save on a monthly budget in the best case scenario ? If we are alone as an expat sounds like we can expect to get taken advantage of for certain ? Some savings of the budget that would be. -?- Maybe need to hire it done by a local ? Not sure what or how to go about that w/o a girl friend ?
Hes only gonna give guidelines. you need to research for yourself and find hard numbers or you will lose your life aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand get stranded there...
Hey Gio howdy...my name is Glenn and Im 66...very recently became interested...Been watching multiple videos on retiring there...I must say I believe your input on the finances on living there is the most realistic...thank you for the honesty...I will be talking to you more......thank you....what is an expac
Gio, I’m an American who is ex-military and entitled to VA benefits which I’ve been getting for 50 years. Can I get a retirement visa for $1,500 instead of a $10,000 deposit? I’m not retired from the military. I didn’t serve 20 years.
I like the city like Cebu city or Iloilo city because of the amenities. the provinces are just like a jungle not enough amenity. foreigners from big cities in the west will not like living in a province but will follow a beautiful Filipina to her province to fix her house up and live. yes, it is cheaper in the province, but you will encounter snakes like the cobra.
Majority of women in Iloilo prefers to marry a local guy, & they don't beg for money just like a gold digger unlike Cebu full of scams.😂😂 btw Iloilo & Cebu they don't like each other, natives know this rivalry.
hey Gio I will be flying into Cebu on 5 sept/2023 and want to know how to get from the Cebu airport to the boat that goes from Cebu to Dumaguete. So please can you help me with that information . I will owe you. thanks Jim

That too causes isolation and unpractical, very unhealthy life conditions when being there on longterm stays. That too is sort of unsafe/unsecure. Towards the wandering around semi armed anti national ph authorities fractions of all already known sorts, no one as a westerner foreigner or even national native Pinoys/Pinays can be considered to be safe anywhere else in the more inlandic probinciana mountainous areas of this very big island. The methods of making gains on heavy integrity abuse of foreigners is constantly evolutionized and updated in the unpleasant sense of being endangering on their wellbeing.
Good list and I'm sure parts of Mindanao are safe but for me, as long as the US has it at level 3 "reconsider travel" , it's off my list. Besides there are 6,999 other islands in the Philippines, so plenty to choose from.

Foreigners are prohibited from owning land in the Philippines, but can legally own a residence. The Philippine Condominium Act allows foreigners to own condo units, as long as 60% of the building is owned by Filipinos. Appreciate you updates on different cities. Hoping to be in Cebu in about a month.
Great video, thanks Gio!
Glad you liked it!
Correction the $1,500 is just a visa deposit to the DPB Bank, $1,400 is the visa fee to DFA immigration
You should read about it of course, but an olive oil and lemon juice flush once or twice a year will take care of your gall bladder.
GReat video. I am heading that way in a few months
I was in Dumaguete once, never again! Stay away from Manila! Anything Cebu, I love (Lapu 2) Instead of Thailand, check out VN?

You talking about low cost cities but you didn't mention how much rent per room of hotel or one bedroom apartment when you were in those cities ?
I've checked out four Thai cities for a total of two months since April, and I'm looking to move to Jomtien. I've never been to the P.I's, but will visit Cebu once I have a 1 BR in Thailand

You can go hiking to little baguio called bucari leon, Antique anda few hours drive to Boracay. Guimaras island. Sicogon Island for island hopping Islas de gagntes.
hey Gio, you said a while ago you were going to get 13a visa, if i remember right. will you do video on the process?
Yes, I will.
Great info, thanks!
You bet!
Yes! Dipolog is beautiful and clean! And Progressing. Thank you. ❤
It really is!
Only one problem with Dipolog. The Australian government puts that part of Mindanao as a "do not travel" area
I agree, the Dipolog/Dapitan City area is a very good place to live. 🙂
I am definitely considering the city of Iloilo when my stay in Thailand is over in a few months not a fan of Manila, Angeles or Cebu been there done that.
Bayawan is nice. I go thete all the time. I have house in Santa Cantalina...
CDO is a nice city!
I love CDO!!! Centrio mall is the best . Upper CDO is also good still developing area… watching from Chicago…
Liked and subscribed.

have you visited the philippines?
Of course local understand English and can speak too. Only those drop out of school can’t speak. English is our second language in the Phil’s. For your info. I’m based in Chicago…many Spanish speaking..
Good advice regarding veritas
Glad you think so!
Good one Geo

I’m getting close and I may store more expensive items, but the rest I think I’m going to give most away to people that can use it. Any tips?
Sold as much as I could and then gave away the rest of it.
A place that looks really interesting to me is Kapatagan, Digos, Davao del Sur. Farm country in the backyard of the big city.
I lived in digos and its a nice place and you can easily get fresh vegetables, fruits and a bit cheaper than bigger cities

Hello Gio! I was planning on coming back out to the Philippines for the 2nd time. the 1st time I stayed 19 days Sept. 30 -Oct. 19 2023. This time I was planning on 3 month March 30- June 30 2024. I was signing up to get a visa. The 1st time I was out I met the Filipina I was chatting on line with for 14
mos. So far things have gone well with her. Without dating
multiple women, which can be
a pain. I'm taking easy with her
within a year I may consider her more seriously if things continue to work on out.
Hey Gio , I know you said you were thinking about expanding on this list. Could you do a few places in Central and northern Luzon for some of the cities that are compatible to the cities you mentioned in the southern regions.
Thanks again great information #2024🇸🇽

Not being sure where to live I did send my partner and her parents to Iloilo to compare different places to live. She found a fantastic condo with amazing prices I thought she was going to choose it. But she liked BGC better so I will be moving to BGC early August. BGC was my first choice anyways because of St Luke's before I even started speaking with her so all is good. Thanks for the update
Where does she live now?
That is awesome!
You must have deep pockets, of course she'd choose BGC 😂
@olijfcadiz4231 cebu but she is in bgc now getting the condo ready for my arrival
@sandrabentley8111 she was living in Cebu. She is now in BGC getting the condo ready for my arrival
So, roughly, how much cheaper are these places, compared to say, Dumaguette?
Currently, looking around trying to see where to live first. Compare province to city. Completed my pilgrimage to Civet coffee in Mactan Newtown. Found out boots on the ground doesn't work very well for me, hahaha.
Ferry to Leyte got canceled due to the typhoon, so I'm trying to figure out my next step.
Best of luck!
Great choices ❤
I've been to Ormoc. I liked it.
how about a good layed back place with amenities like malls and hospitals , but fairly closeby a major airport to fly back and forth to the States . Not Urban, not provincal ..like a suburb ...

Me personally I have a Phillpina I'm dating presently. . I've been praying
a lot for the right decision concerning who I should
marry.

They have lots of police auxiliary force members recruited there which are in active spreadout specific city police assisting service as well. All members have (dad Rodrigo (previous president) , his father who was wider regional governor over Davao, Paolo, Inday Sarah (current vice president)and the Benjamin of them Basti, currently Davao city mayor), compliments on them all for that. Towards the wandering around semi armed anti national ph authorities fractions of all already known sorts, no one as a westerner foreigner or even national native Pinoys/Pinays can be considered to be safe anywhere else in the more inlandic probinciana mountainous areas of this very big island. For absolute peace and quiet control and applying reasonable structure of law and order it is just too wide and huge, with some areas being particularly extra non advisable to live in or non speedy explorative wander through. When the day comes the bad happenings can happen on each and everyone among Westerner foreigners out there. Keep such always in mind. The methods of making gains on heavy integrity abuse of foreigners is constantly evolutionized and updated in the unpleasant sense of being endangering on their wellbeing.
