It looks like Japan has me beat with FOUR videos! You know what I see? A challenge to make 2020's Taiwan parts hunt even greater! Nationwide Parts Hunt!
Loved this series. I lived in Japan for 14 years. Akihabara was always the place to go for electronics but it was usually full systems. When I put my first PC together in 2001 I ordered everything from New Egg which was just getting started. However monitors were way too expensive to ship so I went to Akihabara to find my monitor. I was looking for a specific monitor and it took me a while to find a shop that sold it. When I did finally find it they gave me a good deal (paid less than US price brand new) and had it delivered to my door 2 hours outside of Tokyo(that poor delivery guy hauled an 80 pound large awkward box up 2 flights of stairs). I still have that Sony GDM-F520 monitor and it still works like a champ, they don't make them like they used to. Glad to see used and new parts shops popping up there.
I thought those places looked familiar. They are all in my backyard. Tomisato, Yachimata and Yachiyo. I’ve been to all those places, except the one in Yachimata. I think a small road trip is coming up soon. Interesting to see you shopping in my home area. Keep up the good work.
Over here in the US it's about scoring used Workstations and upgrade to gaming pc. Just moved a Dual Xeon with 700 watt power supply. All I had to do was clean it up and pull the duo graphics card and replace with a used 1080.
I have that x79 board...... the latest bios, you have to update in windows (via usb stick and an exe). I bricked it, got stuck in a boot loop and then it couldn't find it, so go with the latest one you could get via usb stick (general .rom .bios) You can update via internet but have to be in bios to do that.
It makes sense to buy in Japan... If you're going to Japan already, but the cost of a flight and hotel stay would bring those computers up considerably. That said, any way you can reduce ewaste is great.
Gotta love how long brick and mortar stores cling on to the ratchet effect of a overpriced market. Almost two years since the GPU mining bubble and a year since DDR4 prices started to collapse.
Hell of a deal on a branded x79 board even if it was a gamble. In the future I'd like to look at a used x99 build with server parts but I only need 1 test system with each memory type XD.
when you where at hardoff, didnt you see old vga cards high end AGP cards or voodoo cards? such cards are collectors items and are getting extremely expensive on ebay
I couldn't find many good deals. One shop I found had 1156 boards for real cheap (20-30) but that's too old for me, and 1155 boards were 40-50. Maybe whenever the next intel socket comes out those 1155's will be 20-30.
I picked up a unopened Samsung Evo 860 m.2 2tb($319 on amazon) and a SP 256gb SSD($30 on amazon) for $30. Picking up a m.2 to sata adapter as my motherboard doesn't support it, so I can test it before I try and flip it. Couldn't help but think of your channel.
It always amazes me how far you go to find those deals. I only go as far as Yahoo! Auctions, and these days I'm content with just getting them on sale from Amazon. And I live within biking distance to a PC Depot, Hard Off and 2nd Street.
If i saw a "Hard off" store in Australia, it would give me an instant "Hard ON" I remember the good old computer swap meets every Sunday back in the 90's and early 2000's. There was always great used and new bargains going around then. I dont think computer swap meets is a thing anymore, well in Australia anyway.
If you google Context Clues a diagram of Brian looking through used pc parts pops up. Tech Man you know Im always down for more of your Guru secrets :)
Hi Bryan, another great video 👍 glad to see you spending time with your son. Must be hard having them soo far away from you 😢. Just like to let you know I managed to score myself some recent deals here in Australia. Firstly a brand new crucial mx500 1tb ssd for $115 AUD including free shipping. Secondly, on Facebook marketplace a 12 mth old mining rig for $110, yes $110 AUD including 1x Aorus RX570 4gb, 1x Gigabyte RX 580 8gb, 1x Aorus RX580 4gb, 1x MSI RX 580 8gb, 1x Sapphire RX580;8gb, 1x Aorus RX580 4gb (artifacting - So I might downclock to try n fix), 1x Gigabyte RX 580 4gb, 1x Gigabyte RX580 4gb, Asus Z370-a prime white motherboard, intel i3-8100 (4core), 4gb Corsair memory module, Thermaltake 1000 watt silver rating power supply and a Corsair 650 watt 80 white rating. Also another score I got was 4x sapphire RX580 4gb brand new w/ warranty $650 total which I’m very happy with. These recent bargain hunts have reignited my passion for flipping pc after a 3 year hiatus 👍😁. Keep up the great work B, hope you had a great time in Japan. Cheers.
Hi Bryan. Love these part hunt videos, bit of a bargain hunter myself. You mentioned before that you use to shift music gear and have bought said gear from Japan. Are the prices much different to the rest of the world? Cheers from the UK. :)
staying at akihabara for 3 months . got haul tons of cheap parts on hidden parts of akihabara specially between ueno /akihabara there are tons of computer shops that sell really cheap. got 1070ti for 20,000yen around 110$. its even in mint condition. good thing basic nihonggo comes in handy.
I love these videos, hopefully you will do some in the future. You never know if HardOff gets around and drops the prices to good levels in the future. Can you do something like a Google Maps with all the places you visited?
No. After 14 months the prices were the same on several items I wanted to buy. Wouldn't even dropp price by $5 but you could get tax free if you spent enough $$. They are too stubborn at hardoff.
@@CommodoreFan64 the news you guys have been reading is very particular on those topics, everything is peace right here every day, those conflicts only happens on Sundays in very special places, and those Protestant who've been violently arrested were doing even more violence things before that, like trying to pull a police's gun

Just because the PSU works - the computer starts and seems to work - doesn't necessarily mean it works FINE. The voltages may be really bad and eventually screw up your parts.
What happened with the funky smelling 1650Ti that you bought new for a very decent price? Correct me if I'm wrong on the model of the GPU. Thanks! Great video series BTW.
Hi I am travelling to Tokyo by the end of this month and I was looking forward to scoring some used computer parts. Can you suggest me the names of the stores where I can find a good pc components? I need to build a pc.
Hey Brian make that talking head video of what is the process you go through before buying the used parts ? And how do you price the CPU GPU MOBO ETC ?

Im broke as hell but when the yes man get those deals there is this satisfaction that i feel
You wouldn't like to go on hardoff anyways. They sell used components for higher prices
Just 'flip' PCs. Start with cheaper ones. And collect the money.
When you get back to AUD, I'm ready to watch some tech yes used pc builds

I really can't get over how much you bought the r7 1700
Power supply is a good one,and I just LIKE that cooler !!!!!
The range of coolers is crazy over there. Funny thing was new ones are only $10 more than 2nd hand when on special.
Just a heads up. The 600w power supply @2:28 only works from 90-132v so it probably won't work in Australia since I believe it's 230v over there.
He’s making these pc’s for people who live in Japan so it won’t matter
Thanks for the tip about akihabra mate. I'm sooo looking foreward to my trip to japan later this week!

what about fuel cost, i know doing that at Australian fuel costs would have cost the price of a new mid range PCs PMSL
