I will have you know I watched this video front to back, the least I could do since you put this kind of effort into this video. 112 JRPGs is nothing to scoff at, what an insane lineup. I could see how some of these games could have crept into the "E" range, but the fact that only 1 was a true dumpster fire is impressive. "Grandia 3 is a Disney game" LMAO In all of these years I had never thought of it that way, but the moment you said that, the opening movie flashed through my mind and I realized it was true! lol Thanks for the content, Erick! I hope 2021 is a better year for us all!
I know Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts are very streamlined jrpgs, but if it wasn't for those two series, I would not be a JRPG fanatic. I Love them to death lol. I am really enjoying the .hack gu series and its definitely one of my favorites
Many thanks to you Erick! I wanted to have PS2 in my childhood and 20 years later I finally bought it and now I am ready to burn DVDs with all the JRPGs you praised here. You truly are a king among men!
Yo dude! Just getting back in touch back with my PS2 after a hard semester in university, and you also have the same as my brother. This video looks so cool.
Thank you for this list of jrpgs! I have found a lot of jrpgs from watching your videos to add to my collection. You're probably the reason why i got the Shadow Hearts games! I just beaten Shadow Hearts and wow did i love it soo much! Right now I'm playing Covenant. I don't agree with the Kingdom Hearts series thou. They all belong in the S tier in my opinion. Lol. Anyway great list! Thanks much!
Great video! I'm always impressed with you knowledge of so many games, and I've been eager to see you tackle the PS2's full library. For me, FFXII, FFX, and DQ 8 are my favorite PS2 rpgs. I'm a also DRPG and Roguelike fan, so my list would be quite a bit different (Druaga, King's Field, Grandia X-Treme and Wizardry would all be much higher) but I appreciate the work you put into this and enjoyed watching!
First of all I got Eternal Poison thanks to you. Secondly … A??? Lol. The way you spoke about it and the history of how highly you’ve spoken about it in your channel I thought it was going to be this lists first S game. You’re the man, Erick. Keep being awesome
You've got some refined taste, sir. Thanks for giving the dues to Tales of Legendia, Grandia III and Suikoden V, excellent games that are getting overlooked for no good reason.
You have played a lot of games! Great to see you do a comprehensive view of what is a great jrpg generation. Too bad the PS3 wasn't great. Probably too hard to develop for.
Looking up the only E rank game, it looks like it had a different name in Japanese: "Reiselied". Ephemeral Fantasia was actually its subtitle. It means "Pilgrim's Song". Seeing as it's about a travelling musician, it probably would have been a more intriguing title for it. Just looking up the reviews for it though, Erick, I think they are pretty much in agreement with you there! On an amusing note, Ephemeral means "Short". Short Fantasy! *LMAO* Certainly doesn't do it any favours.
Awesome list, but it was missing Ring of Red, knowing that you like tactical games, I would like to know whats your take on it. I for myself I would rank Dragon quarter at least in the B tier
I'll second Ring of Red as one of my favorite PS2 games, and I don't even like strategy RPGs. But for whatever reason it's listed as "Turn based strategy" rather then "Strategy RPG", so it usually doesn't make these lists. I wonder if Erick has tried it though. As an SRPG fan I bet he'd like it.
I can't allow this Ephemeral Fantasia slander! The game is actually pretty great, with some of the most ambitious ideas in a JRPG and creates one of the most immersive feeling towns in a JRPG. But if you only spend a few hours fooling around in the game then you might not like it, it takes time to understand what's happening with the time loops. It's a difficult game, but the objective of freeing the characters from the time loop creates some of the most creative and thoughtful puzzles that feel really rewarding when you start to make some progress in them. This game continues to be massively misunderstood by fans of PS2 JRPGs, because so few make substantial progress in the title. I really suggest giving it another try, it's really for people that are patient gamers and can appreciate the often slower and longer gameplay payoffs. Also has good music!
Interesting comment, might have to try again. I bought this game when it released many years ago and to this day it's one of only 2 games I've ever sold back within a week from disliking it so much. Maybe I need to try it from a new perspective!
Agreed. Over the years few games have given me the same sense of mystery. Trying to figure your way out of time loop was tough but fun. One of my best PS2 memories.
Thank you so much Eric about your effort for all of those videos that you make by far you are one of my best youtubers you deserve millions of subs keep it up the hard work best wishes to you and your family:)
I have to say, good job on the list. To be honest the ranking wouldn't be much different than I would have done. From what I can see, I don't think I would move any game more then one spot either way. Merry Christmas

Nice. I haven't watched yet but still giving this video a thumbs up. Gonna wait till after work and watch it on my big screen 4k TV. Yes unfortunately I gotta work on Christmas
I thought Tales of Destiny Remake Director's Cut was a great JRPG. It still has my favorite 2D Tales battle system and great 2D sprite work. It's unfortunate that it's not on your list, but that's understandable since was never released outside of Japan. Also, I only found your channel recently and you're already growing into one of my favorite JRPG youtubers since you don't have a heavy bias towards SquareEnix games like most others. There's so many great RPGs out there outside of Final Fantasy.
Hey I'm new to the channel and you have inspired me to start an jrpg for the very first time, of course I've heard about a lot of them but decided to start off with FFX. It was an amazing experience and I'll always carry this game in my heart. I'm about to start IX now wish me luck 'cos I suck
FFX is arguably one of the greatest JRPGs you can start with. At least compared to many classics out there, it's easier on the eyes and felt modern. Not to mention, one of the greatest JRPGs of all time too. Hope you enjoyed it!
Been playing ps1, almost through Xenogears for the first time. I've played a demo when I was something like 13 or 14, pretty much 18 years ago if it makes any sense. Planning to play Lunar eternal blue, Grandia 1 or jump to ps2 with Suikoden 4 or 5, favorite franchise or Tales of Vesperia on xbox360. This vid is a great timing, might alter my choices 👊 as I missed out alot on ps2 as I've been through pretty much all jrpgs on ps1

The other ones are are the PSN store for PS3 only. It's so annoying how Sony has fractures the PSN Store offerings.
@@ReaveIdono yeah, there's no reason for them not to transfer everything from the ps3 store to the ps4 store, then to the ps5 store, and then to the ps6 store. now that the ps3 store has been shut down, there are a lot of games i payed for that will be lost forever if my ps3 ever breaks down on me.
@@Jack_80 Fortunately they didn't close the PS3 store down. They are just closing the PSP store.
@@ReaveIdono could have sworn i heard they were closing it down very soon a while back, unless they got a negative response and changed their mind or something.
@@Jack_80 Yeah. That is exactly what happen. All the backlash is keeping it open. For now at least.
Great video, ty fir going the extra mile and adding footage of each game
"Grandia 3 is a Disney game" LMAO
In all of these years I had never thought of it that way, but the moment you said that, the opening movie flashed through my mind and I realized it was true! lol
Thanks for the content, Erick!
Thanks for all of your work and dedication. Love your videos - especially y our PS2 ones.
Man thats some dedication playing all those games like that ! great video. Love to see more like this !
Many thanks to you Erick! I wanted to have PS2 in my childhood and 20 years later I finally bought it and now I am ready to burn DVDs with all the JRPGs you praised here. You truly are a king among men!
Install a hard drive instead ;D if it's a fat model
Great tier-list video. This is Erick Landon at his best! Keep em coming!
Dude this video is gonna be good! Merry christmas
P.s: Are you gonna do this for other consoles
I think he already has
@@user-xu3bg7zh9c niceeeeee
This was an awesome video Erick! Thank you for this Christmas present haha. Happy holidays! - Danny
And of course fans of other RPGs for the PS2 already know what great games Balder's Gate and Champions Of Norath are.
Dragon quest 8 is an easy s, didnt play that many ps2 rpgs though , merry x mas to All, thx for the effort and the great list
Dood you're an EPIC gamer!!!. These are great reviews and suggestions. Thank you!.
Awesome video!! Really enjoyed this trip down memory lane
First of all I got Eternal Poison thanks to you. Secondly … A??? Lol. The way you spoke about it and the history of how highly you’ve spoken about it in your channel I thought it was going to be this lists first S game.
You’re the man, Erick. Keep being awesome
This is going to be a long video, but it's definitely worth watching for all ps2 JRPG fans.
You've got some refined taste, sir. Thanks for giving the dues to Tales of Legendia, Grandia III and Suikoden V, excellent games that are getting overlooked for no good reason.
Yes he does. He's my go-to for best JRPGs especially since he doesn't just look at the big titles but hidden gems too.
Great video as always man you have helped me build a lot of my library which is in my collection now, I really appreciate your work man!
*LMAO*
Certainly doesn't do it any favours.
Absolutely amazing video bro. I learned so much from this and now i need to collect a lot more ps2 jrpg games.
Eric this is a good Christmas gift I only played 20 games on this list but glad to see other games represented 👍
Looking forward to the video on reviewing every single jrpg on ps vita
Hey Erick! What a great Christmas gift!
Happy Holidays!
great tier list and all but i'm more impressed that you spoke for almost a hour straight without drinking water
Watching from Oregon! Your channel is awesome Erick and this list is crazy! Love it.
I enjoyed it as well they got away with alot of stuff that would be frowned upon today lol
Thank you, i fucking loved this game
Interesting comment, might have to try again. I bought this game when it released many years ago and to this day it's one of only 2 games I've ever sold back within a week from disliking it so much. Maybe I need to try it from a new perspective!
Agreed. Over the years few games have given me the same sense of mystery. Trying to figure your way out of time loop was tough but fun. One of my best PS2 memories.
I can only imagine how long this took you to do! Great video brother!
absolutely insane video! happy holidays
What an absolute mad lad. Incredible vid. Earned my sub.
I enjoy your content! It's always nice to see a jrpg fan.
Are you planning to rank every PS3 and 4 jrpg too? That would be great.
liked and subbed due to this insane and monumental effort
Thank you so much Eric about your effort for all of those videos that you make by far you are one of my best youtubers you deserve millions of subs keep it up the hard work best wishes to you and your family:)
Wow this was a wild ride!
Love these ranking videos! I cannot wait for the PS4 one!
Makai Kingdom is one of my friends’ favorite games! I haven’t played yet, but I think there’s something there.
I have to say, good job on the list. To be honest the ranking wouldn't be much different than I would have done. From what I can see, I don't think I would move any game more then one spot either way. Merry Christmas
La Pucelle Tactics goes S rank for me I absolutely loved it, also that music as soon as you mentioned it... So good
Really love this and your commentary throughout. It would be nice to post the webpage or remove your video feed at the end so we could really analyze the list. It can be tough to view them all. Appreciate your content!!
SPLENDID!
i enjoy every minite of the video but please share a link to the image of final ranking.
Watched the whole vid. Very nice list! I'll be sure to try some of the titles in A and S. I love xenosaga
Merry Christmas erick.
Awesome. Thanks! Man, so many games to check out.
great video Erick, Hope u had a wonderful Christmas and have a Happy New Year!!
I just discovered your channel, and damn, we almost have the same tastes (at least for the games I've played like you) I'm gonna give a try to some of these games, and I'm really happy to see someone who also likes Xenosaga :3
You called it a hidden gem, but I was so glad to see MS Saga. I can appreciate it isn't for everyone, but it's one of my all time fave JRPGs!
Man I don't know how many hours you worked on making this video, but I'd say you really rock!
You've outdone yourself again, mi amigo! Thank you so much.
Nice. I haven't watched yet but still giving this video a thumbs up. Gonna wait till after work and watch it on my big screen 4k TV. Yes unfortunately I gotta work on Christmas
Great video man, thanks for making it! It’s a shame there isn’t a written way to look these things up.
very glad you have make this video, i was waiting it for the ps1 edition, i hope you plan to make a ps3 edition
Tales of Destiny Remake DC is my favorite jrpg.
Wounder if we will ever see a console beating the PS2 in the amount of quality JRPGs.
Did you happen to do something similar to this for NDS, Super Nintendo, PS1, PSP? I would love to see those!
Thank you for putting .hack gu trilogy in S tier! It's my favorite action rpg, such an underrated game.
Thanks for this comprehensive review.
Yo Erick, do you plan on making a PS3 Tier List? Great work hermano
Great video Erick!
I had no idea there were so many sprite based games on the ps2.
Great effort, you earned yourself a sub!
I feel this guy would be my best friend when it comes to rpgs.
So, are the Monster Rancher series not RPGs?
This is madness!
Ephemeral Fantasia deserves better but good ranking.
Its good see someone dedicate much on classic rpg, this world need saviour.
I really like those tier list video, its like a big recommandation video. But it would be nice if you could share the tier list link or even just a high quality picture of it ( Really mainly when they are so much games on the tier list its really hard to read, its ok when they are not so many game). Even when you watch the full video, its really hard rereading the tier list after for archive purpose on video. Hope my comment will reach you. Keep the good content ^^ Love
The ps2 is the best console ever for jrpgs imo
This is great, you are better at being objective while still voicing your passionate opinion
I been waiting for this
Daamn nice list Erick!
My favorite j-rpg in ps2 was:
1. Xenosaga trilogy
2. FF 10 and SMT: DDS 1-2 together
3. Star ocean 3 & DQ 8 together
Digital Devil Saga is number one for me.
@@nr2676 For me """ just """ the best SMT game
thats one of the best videos on youtube
