In today's video, I'll be refreshing the motor for the '62 GMC build. It's a 5.3L LM7 (LS based) V8 that came out of a 2004 Cadillac Escalade. The motor ran fantastic with no smoking, ticking or anything else abnormal that would indicate any other issues that would require a rebuild. That being said, I still wanted to go through it down to the short block, re-seal everything and put on my own custom touches to ensure this thing has a long life and looks great too. Despite being a modern engine, I want to give it a vintage twist to pay homage to the truck's original V6. As I've mentioned in prior videos, this is going to be a unique build that's going to utilize mostly factory GM parts when it comes to the chassis, powertrain and driveline. The goal is to build a truck that's easily serviceable, reliable, fun to drive and comfortable to drive on a daily basis. The core of this build will start by taking two old GM vehicles that were destined for the scrap yard and repurpose as much of them as possible to limit cost and give the '62 a significant dose of modernizing. If you haven't already, subscribe today to follow the progress! Thanks for watching!

Watching you rebuild this engine was so cathartic and satisfying. Also not gonna lie, loved the music choices too. Great work!
Thank you very much!
Looks really beautiful.
I like the red on the engine, it suits it and makes every nook and cranny detailed plus it goes with your channel, keep it up 👍
This is true, I do enjoy my red LOL
Awesome build bro for the 1962 GMC Truck I love it not bad considering the LS Vortec motor looks brand new
Beautiful work!
awsome video kyle that is one nice engine all done up showing its glory cant wait for you to install and start it and run it lol thumbs up and shared
So you rebuild the whole engine by putting some new parts in it. Well that is so generous of you, springing up your motivation & passion, finding ways to make old cars reusable and reliable, you know what I mean?
Great videos, great series, great channel, not-so-great music. One thing I used to enjoy about your channel was that it didn’t have any music while you worked. Hoping you’ll go back to that soon.
I like editing project videos with music, especially when it comes to the time lapse clips. Makes it flow better I think.
@@saabkyle04 Perhaps just turn the level down a bit... 🙂
@@saabkyle04 good point. I’ll still be watching anyway.
Looks really good ! Better than new !
Looks awesome
that red color simply pops, nice job
Well I'm impressed, great job... 🙂
Overall you did a great job with rebuilding this engine. The only thing is seeing that you painted everything, isn't that gonna make servicing it in the future a little harder. The nuts and bolts have a layer of paint on them, which makes their size increase. Just wondering if that's going to be a problem in the future
Nice
Woah!!! 😎!!!!! ❤❤❤
That motor looks good
Anytime you put heat to a head, especially an aluminum head, considering you are actually having welding done to it well, I'd have recommended (if you asked) you check those heads with a guaranteed flat edge. Nothing is going to aggravate you more than putting the engine together to only find a head gasket leaking - or worse. But that's just me.
I checked it with a straight edge, it's all good.
when is the chevelle coming back, what happended to the cab visor that was on the s10
what ever happened to the crew cab s10? i really wanted to see that thing built and its been 3 years since a video of it... love the content though
He sold it awhile back

Just some thing I learned from experance, but you don't put that much assembly lube on a roller lifter camshaft. The reason why is it may cause the roller on the end of the lifter to not roll, and just sit stationary on the cam which is bad. Flat tappet cams did need that much but not rollers.
That may be true, but it's more true for the lifters themselves, you don't put assembly lube on the lifter rollers because it can clog the bearings inside them and cause them to not roll. The lube is mainly to coat the cam bearings. I like using the assembly lube with graphite in this case as it just helps with initial start up.
Do you think you'd install a performance intake manifold to go with the bigger cam?
Probably not, keeping things as factory as possible, just making use of spare parts I have lying around.
Will you install headers or stock manifolds?
Not sure yet, going to try manifolds one more time, but will probably have to go with headers because the exhaust is going to pass through the transmission crossmember
@@saabkyle04 thanks for the car freshners btw!!
What a great job! You are amazing!!!
Can you import a 4-door Fiat Uno as a project car, Kyle?
The motor looks good I don't think there is to much red paint at all put it together the way u like to
Thanks a lot!
Your well come
When you go to put your intake on are you not concerned about the paint where the intake gasket has to seal? Long term with heat and fuel exposure i would be concerned about future vacuum leaks. Correct me if I'm wrong
Different people will tell you different things. In my experience, I have not had an issue so I roll with it.
Put a new o-ring in the oil pump pick up tube! Not sure if you did, kinda looks like you looked at the old one and reused it. New o-ring will bring that pressure up and it’s good practice since the pan is off
I didn't use any old gaskets
How's the Chevelle?
On the back burner, gotta finish the S10, Monte Carlo and 240SX before we dive back into it.
305 V6 ???? You mean 350 & 305 V8
No the 62 came with a 305 V6 boat anchor
There is nothing budget about the prices on their site
There are many retailers of ACDelco parts, I use Amazon personally.
Did I see you use the old lifters???? What kit comes with cam springs and no lifter?? You must be trying to wipe the cam out of you did. Ask me how I know
I’m so tired of people alway putting these loopy cams in these LS engine its like why not do something different?
It's not a loopy cam, just something to wake it up, what's wrong with making easy cheap power?
what ever happened to the crew cab s10? i really wanted to see that thing built and its been 3 years since a video of it... love the content though
It got sold to either a friend of his or the guy who was helping to work on it.
He scrapped the project and gave it to Joe
