The good thing about painter's tape is that it is fairly easy to remove later if need be. 3M has a lavender color delicate painter's tape, if that one helps.
My 1851 pocket Bible, I've wanted to keep reading it but the leather over the spine has separated. This is just the fix until I can learn to attempt to repair it properly. Thank you...
Hi there, thank you for this video. Was wondering if you had any idea how to for lack of better term "moisturize" the edges of the canvas books that have become brittle ? Would like a product to purchase to make it look better or to help it from further damage.
You can ask this question and post a picture of the problem on the Save Your Books student forum. I am not sure how to answer without seeing it except to say that moisturizing products will never be the answer and will only harm cloth.
That is part of it. The tape is meant to be temporary until an archival repair can be effected. The glue would make it permanent and closing the spine gap would cause further damage. Thanks for the question!
@@SaveYourBooks well shoot, i have been making many mistakes. The e6000 glue is flexible and I used that in the channel between the cover and spine. Dang, I hope it holds up and I didn't wreck the whole deal.

I recently got some mass market paper backs from the 80s, they're in decent condition. I found this book guard brand tape, is that fine to use? I was going to put it on the edges of the spine and corners of the cover.
It depends on your end goal. The tape will destroy the value but will extend the number of times you can use the book. Tape like that is for library repair and libraries have different goals than private collectors.
@@SaveYourBooks I don't plan on selling them since they were a hand me down from my uncle, I want to protect them because of the sentimental value they have

Excellent
Why not use e6000 glue to hold the spine together ? is it due to the gap you want to keep so the book can open without re-breaking?
