What a discovery! Recently I purchased an old book that is completely torn apart, and this is exactly what I need. Can't wait to try it! I love this channel already 🤩
Oh my GAWD thank you! My favorite book had fallen apart to the point I felt I had to reattach the whole individual pages back together and no other video had it! I deeply appreciate this video, and I'll definitely try this out. :D
I'm converting our grandson's weekly emails from his mission into a physical book. It will be around 200 pages. I did NOT want to get into sewing groups of 4 pages folded in half because that would become a nightmare printing the pages in the proper order. This solves my problem big time! Thanks a billion!

Thank you. I have been searching for how to repair a soft cover book and all the videos show how to replace soft cover with hard cover. Not the same thing. Not the same process. Thanks again.
I am in the process of rebinding my Bible. I used gauze on the entire spine but the hacksaw thread idea is mind-blowing. Thank you so much for the detailed yet crisp steps
Hello ! The opening will depend on the adhesive you use and the use. In this case, this book that I used for the video was a new book that a few days after starting to read the pages began to fall off, that is why I decided to repair it as I show in the video. I was able to continue and finish reading it without the pages coming off again with this method. However, if you want to be 100% sure that the pages are not going to come off again, you have to sew the booklets as shown below. ua-cam.com/video/4by5GbuDBuc/v-deo.htmlsi=uxOEwmqtHfe6fzAL
Hello, im planning to make a book, Im wondering what is the best, Sew bind or glued bind? Can i use a regular white glue? Can i glue it and after that sew it?
Hello ! Sewn binding is better than just adhesive binding. If you are going to use adhesive, it should only be one that is diluted with water, like white school adhesives. If the adhesive is specific for binding, the better, because they are manufactured free of acids.
Amazing ❤. I printed single 188 papers to bind the book alone, cuz giving someone to bind a book is a bit expensive 😅. I have a question tho. Why cut the edges and put a thread inside?
Hello ! The cut on the spine and the threads provide some resistance to the opening mechanism. Many years ago it was done this way to simulate a false seam. You can try it without the threads but you have to be very sure that the adhesive on the spine will keep everything in place. In fact, that book that you see in the video was new and as soon as I started reading it the pages fell off, it only had adhesive on the spine...now with the threads it works better.
Thanks for the in depth steps! I was wondering if you have given any thought to getting a book press made from scrap lumber and carriage bolts? I had the local lumber store make me a big one for less than $20.00 to do all the work.
Hello ! I have one of those presses, I made it myself as you say, with wooden planks and bolts. It happens that I don't usually use it for videos because many people tell me that they don't have that tool...
Hello ! Yes, in the binding industry with large runs (thousands of copies) it is done with machines, I don't know if there is a machine to do it individually
Fairly good the method is easy ,but it wohave been better if the pages had been knocked level on all sides, I noticed that you do have a clamp to hold the pages .
Hello ! With the threads and furrows, the gluing of the sheets is reinforced, it serves to give strength to the spine. It works like a false seam, it is a very old technique to avoid the sewing of signatures that takes much more time and work.
@@bookbindig_studio oh okay! Thank you very much for your video!!! It helped me a lot, I'm currently making a book, your way made things so much easier:))
Hello ! The cuts and threads serve to give strength to the union of the sheets due to the absence of seams, but of course if you trust your adhesive a lot you can not apply them.
Hello ! It depends on the use, of course with a seam it is always more durable. If you prefer to do it with sewing, here is a tutorial ua-cam.com/video/2TZp359uqEM/v-deo.html
I would be grateful if you could tell me the brand and or the type of glue you use. I am finding straight PVA wood glue too rigid …thank you for this amazing video …New Zealand
Hello ! Try to get this glue amzn.to/3Wu13Mk The one I use I buy in Argentina and it is carpentry glue, the one I use works well, it is not so rigid but it depends on the brands (it is called Fortex)
Go to your local joiner or carpenter’s workshop and get them to cut you two lengths of plywood about 15” or 375mm long by about 2” or 50mm wide. (Joiners in the UK use mm, not cm.). The plywood should ideally be 1” or 25mm thick: it needs to be stiff rather than strong, or when you tighten your press around a text block it will spring apart in the centre. Ask them to bore a hole, 8mm in diameter, 1.25” or 30mm from each end of each strip. Buy some set screws about 3” or 75mm long, ideally with wing nuts for tightening them, and stainless steel washers for each side. (A bolt has a smooth shank under the head and then a short length of threading. A set screw is similar, but has no smooth section: rather the thread extends all the way up to the head. It’s a more flexible option than a bolt for this kind of work). Fit the strips together with the set screws, washers, and wing nuts and you have a book press that will last pretty much forever. The parts are freely available and shouldn’t cost more that £10$ off eBay, including postage, if your local hardware store can’t help. Alternatively, you could buy a nice old Dryad book press for around £150$…
@willgrime Thank you very much for your complete contribution on the materials necessary to make a press, in this video I show how I made it ua-cam.com/video/-09fZs9Lxfg/v-deo.htmlsi=1yx7Omfn9kcIa8Qi

Can you please make a video about binding a paperback from scratch?
I take your suggestion for future videos! Thank you :-)
Wow! Cool!
Very interesting Method! Would u say that using the String makes it stronger? Or is it only for Decorations?
Hello ! The thread on the spine makes it stronger .
hey, so are the false seams the way it all stays together? or is it just aesthetic?
Hello ! The false seams serve to give strength to the union, they are not aesthetic since they cannot be seen, they are hidden
