This car is one of the best classics in the world. I have an 1980 model that is very enjoyable to drive.

This is the one that stated my love affair with Mercedes. I bought a new 1984 300D from the Freiburg dealer. It was a European model with 4 speed manual transmission. It was a dealer demonstrator car with just 1000 kilometers on it. They arranged to ship it back to the US for me. I had to do a few modifications to it to make it legal in the USA, but even after the additional expense it still only cost less than half of the US models at the time. I put 250,000 miles on it in 12 years, only replacing one clutch and the glow plugs. Someone hit me and the insurance totaled the car. Since then, I owned 2 W124 300E’s, and still own a 1990 300CE and 2 W210 E430’s. But I do not like the Mercedes since 2003 as the quality is much lower. They are way to complicated now. If they just made a simpler,dependable car like the W123 today it would be a huge success.
I live my 1981 W123 240d. It is a kick to drive and it draws a lot of compliments. Many people who make comments about my car say they would like to get a car like this even over the new cars.
I had to drive a 230 from one panel shop to another some years ago, maybe these were the last of the carburettor models before everything went EFI, fabulous seats and probably the nicest handling of any sedan I have driven.

W123 was truly a great achievement for Daimler Benz. They don't make them like they used to.

The best car
Poor translation at 1:23; he's referring to the car eventually losing traction, not falling apart. I've had three W123s ... they're incredibly well-engineered cars, but the corrosion of the bodies is an absolute embarrassment, especially coming from an era when other manufacturers (Volvo 144/164, for example) where making cars which show little rust, even 35 years later.

Both vehicles do not run very badly

I have seen benz cars abandoned in some countries which are in the best condition
Both my cars have about 60% damage to the bumper
Recovery is difficult
