    Anyone else feel really sad for the Draenei in the Warcraft movie? Such a powerful race and all we see of them is an afterthought, tortured and abused at the hands of Gul'dan.

      to be fair, the Draenei weren't supposed to be the focus of the film that was about the First War which was between the Orcs and the Humans. Though I absolutely agree with your sentiment.

    Just as a side note. The Draenei didn't really come to Draenor 200 years ago I believe it is mentioned that way in the Rise of the Horde but that is not cannon. They were there for thousands of years it is said that they burried their dead in the Auchindoun for a few millenia.

    • @Nobbel87
      @Nobbel87  10 років тому +18

      Ow yeah good catch! Wonder if Auchindoun was a space ship or part of Draenor with a conflicting time thingy...

    • @Doronsmovies
      @Doronsmovies 10 років тому +6

      Nobbel87 Tbh I think it is actually built by them. But the main reason I think that is is more than a few hundred years is that it just kind of doesn't sound right. As they built a civilization there and cities and so much happened and when you look at the 25k years scale it just seems meaningless.

    • @TheAnimefan112
      @TheAnimefan112 10 років тому +6

      Doronsmovies The draenei needed Auchindoun for a good reason. Imagine if one of the draenei turns evil (a thief, murderer or whatever) and he is killed in combat/executed/dies. His spirit would probably go tell the burning legion where the Draenei are. They needed to contain the spirits of their dead so they could betray them.

    Naaru and Draenei crashed on Draenor 200 years ago. Naaru was sick, started to suck up the souls of the deperated. He befriended the spirits of the orcs and influenced the shamans of the orcs to take care of him (bring water and such). This made the place very sacred to them. Many years later KJ came and Velen told them that their sacred place, was actually a spaceship with a naaru inside. They did not like that. Compare it to your enemy telling you your god is not your god.

    The humans their source for the light was a religious one at first. Later they slowly shifted this to a conviction. If you believe, the light will answer. I think Velen is the most powerfull priest on Azeroth.

  • @Nobbel87
    @Nobbel87  11 років тому +1

    He was a guardian, which places him above the realm of normal humans. He didn't take action himself because he wanted to teach the world that the guardians were no longer needed. That we could take care of our world without them. He probably didn't warn Illidan because even Illidan his downfall was part of the ways things should be. It's the same as why didn't we stop Arthas in the CoT, you change one element and it all crumbles down.

  • @Nobbel87
    @Nobbel87  11 років тому +1

    It's possible, the first paladins of the silver hand were both priests and warriors. He has his fathers background, he has Velen his teachings...add maybe a dash of Turalyon his paladin training and you get one bad ass paladin.

    Been searching a bit, but I can't find any lore behind him. What I did find was a post on WoWhead: "So apparently Tseric wasn't fired, they trapped him in the game." Searched for Tseric on Wowiki and he was a former CM, his avatar was this titan. Bit of a story as to why he quit being a CM, but it's possible that this npc is an homage to him.

    Like Adam Boyd said, they had no choice. They had to flee or join the Burning Legion, death was not an option. The damnation of the orcs is not just on the shoulders of the Draenei or Kil'jaeden. The orcs themselves played a big part in it.

    Honestly, (I am going to get sappy here) this video honestly made me change my mind about the Draenei.
    I know this video is older, so there may (probably is) whole new lore for them what with Legion expansion out now
    But I used to think they were just weird space goats with cool hair tentacle hair things, I thought their lore was confusing based on what I was learning in game.
    But this video really helped me understand a lot. So thank you. They are now the only chance Blizzard will ever have of making me try Alliance :P so again, I appreciate it

    The Chronolords served Murozond, the evil form of Nozdormu who in a different time period was tricked by the old gods to abuse his powers and escape his own death which corrupted him and turned him evil. Their intention was to disturb the timewaves, possibly opening ways of Old Gods to rule or the death of us all. I think they can take several paths with Bolvar his story, one is a new LK.

    So, if i get this right, all paladins and priests on Azeroth and other worlds got their powers of the "light" from some alien beings that shine like xmas ornaments? So, how did the humans get this power? Did they find some kind of naaru crystal too? This raises many questions about the various sources of magic.
    But the most important question is: why is Velen the only draenei that can grow a beard?? :)>

    • @Nathan-sd5oy
      @Nathan-sd5oy 9 років тому +8

      No a paladin only gets his power if he calls on the light.....whatever light that may be. The humans use a light that is a lot like a religion, the blood elves eredar use the naru, and the tauren use the suns light. It isnt just naru.

    I know this is quite a few years down the track, but recently I did a backstory for my 4 Draenei. I have 3 normal Draenei and 1 Lightforged. Their parents were a mage and a priestess on Argus. The eldest child, my lightforged, had just became a Paladin before the exodus from Argus, while the next two were the twin boys... both of whom were undergoing Paladin training. The youngest, just entering her teens, showed great magical ability, but not arcane magic... the Eredar Elders didn't know what to make of her. Their father (the mage) was a follower of Archimonde and gave into the demons quickly and went to the family home with a contingent of demons to help corrupt the rest of his family. But their mother realising something was up, sent the children to join up with their sister who was with Velen. Then their mother confronted their, now demonic, father and they killed each other in the battle.
    The siblings boarded the Genadar and fled, becoming part of the Draenei. After the Genadar birthed off the Xenedar, the eldest sibling made the decision to depart with what would become the army of light and became a lightforged Draenei. The twin boys had finished their paladin training by then and were rising through the ranks of the ordinary Draenei's military while the littlest sister was still confusing the elder Draenei until on Draenor, she came to the attention of one of the Orc shaman who had come to Shattrath to trade with the Draenei there. He asked around and found that they elders had recognised a number of Draenei youth with similar magical traits as the youngest sibling. The orc shaman left and later returned with a number of his fellow shaman, offering to train the young Draenei in the ways of shamanistic magic.
    Later after Kil'Jaeden had corrupted the orcs and convinced them to attack the Draenei, the 3 siblings on Draenor had managed to get to Zangarmarsh and were in hiding there with Velen when they found out about the Blood Elves taking control of Tempest Keep. The eldest of the twins was part of the group of Draenei fighters who went and captured the Exodar from the Blood Elves, while the youngest two were a part of the rearguard protecting the column of refugees as they moved through the area that would become Blades Edge. Eventually they all managed to get onboard Exodar and fled to Azeroth. The eldest of the twin boys died fighting the scourge and was ressurected as a Death Knight, while the youngest twin went back to Draenor through the portal to fight against the burning crusade. The youngest stayed with the Exodar for a long while looking after their fellow survivors as a healer before following her brother through the Dark Portal and then on to Northrend where they discovered their brother.
    Eventually, through a lot of adventures, which included a trip to an alternate Draenor, they all ended up back on Argus where they witnessed the crash of the Xenedar, and eventually re-united with their long lost sister.

    i agree, everybody seems to forget how strong velen is and how much more brilliant he is than everybody else, he is without a doubt the stongest leader currently on azeroth but draenei only fight when the burning legion is involved so they have been inactive since burning crusade, but velen is over 25,000 years old from what we know and thats what we know which makes him already older and more experienced than anyone on azeroth.

    Hey nobble. I've watched some videos already and then i subscribed coz you really doing a great job here. I've been playin wow for a long time and whether or not i missed any lore from the game is always worthwhile to listen and enjoy again. Just wanna add: if one of the channel's main goal is wow lore i'd love if you'd keep doing it. I've seen many youtubers set to deliver wow content only to stray apart after a good while. If you are dedicated enough, we'll all appreciate it. Looking forward.

    I already knew all of this (ofc i still watch the video cause the vids are awesome :D). I had never noticed that the opening cinematic for the draeni had changed though

    Shouldn't Velen be more powerful than Malfurion? I mean he is definitely more experienced.

    9 Years later, and I don't think that Velen's prophecy was truly fullfilled. Yes, Anduin became a Paladin, Worgen and Draenai joined the Alliance, and Blood Elfs the Horde. But as far as I know there has never been a battle where there are dozens, hundreds, or thousands of dragons and Naaru.

    The Draenei have a somewhat similar story with the Jews. Skilled craftsmen exiled from their homeland long ago and targeted for genocide on many occasions. In addition Velen is like Moses in the sense that he lead the exodus of his people.

      Jews were well regarded (and still are) as some of the best craftsmen when it came to jewellery, their watch-making was unparalleled. In fact, guess what race gets a jewelcrafting bonus as a racial? That's right, the Draenei. Also, ignore the fact that I'm responding to a 4 year old comment xD

      is it a coincedence that the word jew is in jewel ? its a serious question

    • @FFX2P
      @FFX2P 5 років тому

      @@froZn991 Just googled it and it is a coincidence. The word "jew" has its origins in Judah from Hebrew while "jewel" comes from the Latin "jocus" which later became "joel" in Old French and was anglicized to the current "jewel". Good observation though, made me curious

    Great video. Love your accent mate ;) Actually gave the story that epic feel it deserves. I think/hope we'll see much more of the Draenei in the next expansion, mainly because i think we'll see the Legion returning, while we're busy fighting the Old Gods (and eachother). Maybe we even get to actually kill Kil'jaeden this time around.
    Love the lore vids - please make more ;)

    Hey Nobbel. I love your videos, especially your lore videos are fantastic! I also find your voice extremely calming, which is why i watch almost all of your vids, eventhough your let's plays arent too interesting for me content wise (because i know most of the games too well). Continue with your awesome work!
