  • You saw the last video! The blown Hemi had a slight issue while on the hub dyno! Let’s talk about what went wrong, and what it he next steps are moving forward! Drag racing is tough, and any failure , small or big can lead to huge issues! It’s drag racing. Luckily, this mishap happened in the dyno and not the track! Should be out and repaired soon!

    my first time at Indy, was walking toward the start line from the shutdown when a TF spit off a blower at the top end and it went flying over my head. 16 year old me was impressed

    Great breakdown of the whole unfortunate event. Love how you guys just take it on the chin, smile and get on with getting it sorted. Good luck on the next dyno session and when you hit the track. She's going to be a beast.

    Turbo John is right racing is expensive and sometimes parts fail. It is what it is lol That’s why it’s so important to have a professional wire and run the fuel system!

    My thought was an intake valve dropped or valve keeper failure. Good information. Thank you.

    12:34 For your viewers, EGT's can be deceitful, because a slightly lean cylinder will run hotter (than perfection) a very lean cylinder will run colder due to lack of fuel to create the heat.

    alot of nitrous cars with tunnel rams the top plate is held down with Delrin studs for that same reason . if there is a back fire it just pops the plate instead of trashing intake valves and bending throttle blades

    So I think it’s worth pointing out, it’s interesting how there was that much of a Backfire Explosion, and yet it never hurt the motor. Working with serious Meth and Nitrous engines, I have learned in last 2 hrs, if the fuel isn’t there, it can’t torch or hurt the engine. As it shows, it leans wayyyy out, and ignition happens, boom. In cyl was lean as 7.85:1 from what I saw… this proves the thought process. Separate from the actual backfire, which happened from inj cutting off, creating hotter air, and timing was too advanced for that type of condition. Obv it’s fine when fueled, but with a lot less fueling, it gets pissed off….i think it’s important to explain this to everyone, as I was always told, it went lean and popped…..well kinda only sorta…….the motor is timed for optimal conditions(or at least that days cond), so when it got wayy lean, it became over timed. I have learned this the hard way recently. I run a custom table, that watches EGTS, if EGTS get more than ~200* and TPS is still 100%, it will start to pull timing. I have it gradual to start, and yank a bunch within .5sec. It has saved a few Nitrous engines now, and sum Meth engines too! This safety is really combo specific, and can be a wider gap around 300*, but essentially it has helped greatly. You can get really particular, and get it to run a lil more rich, and rely on the safety, once you have a good understanding of what that engine is doing. Just as John has found out, anytime I’m running a Meth motor real rich for cooling, and sum goes wrong, even a backfire, sum gets hurt. Mostly torching of heads, or breaking lands. I have torched a top ring cple times as well. This has NEVER happened when it’s close to stoich, (5.5ish). Not finding anything wrong with the tune up in your case, just saw a great chance to explain this. It was really hard to wrap my head around at first, as we’ve always been taught, lean hurts engines. But really it’s the timing at that lean of a AFR that really hurts anything. Another great example is how lean some engines run down the hwy nowadays. Manufacturers can get away with Almost 17:1 under light loads, and very little timing.
    I know it’s a rant, but I really try to explain this to ppl as often as possible. REM, it’s all about cyl pressure, so when it goes leaner, it creating greater cyl pressures, earlier, which means the timing is too advanced as the pressure builds sooner and faster. REM FFFS. (Flame Front Fxcks) hahaha.

    If you have EGTs per cylinder, you can make your ECU throw an alert, and if it's fully EFI you can make it go into emergency mode and not blow your engine or blower! FT ECU itself does that pretty well!

    Can't you set a safety to read the O2 sensor, if it reads too lean then it would shut it down? If not it should. Nice job on the wiring.

    • @Shademax4273
      @Shademax4273 5 місяців тому +2

      Pretty sure fueltech can set up any engine parameter or combination of them for safety's. O2 or fuel flow safety could of maybe saved it. But I Don t think a lot of these guys take advantage of the safety's because they can also cause you to lose a race due to a sensor malfunction I suppose.
