Another spot on video! Events with no anti-harassment policy especially in 2021 are very telling. It’s also a sign to me that the organizers don’t really know what they’re doing and what to expect, and the con/event etc. will probably be a mess.
I recently heard about an event where someone seemed to imply that the automatic, real-time captions/subtitles only work well if you're white or something like that. I wasn't there so idk the full context, but it's touching on that issue of people having strong accents and automatic CCs not transcribing it correctly. But the way the person phrased it was apparently all kinds of WTF.
Yeah that ain't okay for them to say that. Subtitles can still not work 100% on a white person either, there's been plenty of videos I've watched by white folks and it would still be inaccurate. Nah that person just didn't wanna put work in or even hire an actual real-time sign-language translator
I... I don't even know where to start! That was extremely insensitive of that person, and sadly, I'm pretty sure a lot of people would think and say the same thing.
