Wow you put this so well. It’s true these people ruined their *own* lives, and by the time these things reach Twitter there’s already been grumbles behind the scenes for a while, often YEARS! It’s simply bad actors finally reaping what they sowed

All of this is why I don't have dream agents and even for authors who I look up to or whose work I enjoy, I think of it as more like a professional admiration for them (e.g., how they made xyz structure choice in their book or various things they do on social media to engage with readers). It's paying attention and admiring them to learn from them and engage with them if they want!
The PW thing was so utterly disrespectful and not even how the industry works??? Angie Thomas was not some post-hardcore band at a local show in the early 2000s that got "discovered" by an agent who happened to be scouting the show. Publishing doesn't work like that lol.
