Hello... Good video here. I wanted to ask you a question? I just bought a 88 Softail and it sometime starts but when warms up dies. When it dies when you crank it it fires once like its going to start but then just keeps cranking. I've put a new coil in.. CPS (crank positioning sensor) and ignition switch. It started, ran great. Came back to the garage and sat over night and doing the same thing. I'm getting close to figuring this out but somebody added some little LED running lights to the rear and had some LED's underneath. I took all that out. However, the reason I'm writing you is that I found this Badlands box under the tank that somebody added. If this box was bad do you think this could be causing this ignition problem? I didn't think this would of had anything to do with the ignition? ?? Thank you!

The badlands unit should cause any issue with ignition unless someone tapped into the coil wiring for power. Odd that it would die once warm. Sounds like you are close. Do you have points or electronic? Of you have points, your contacts can get dirty or the condenser can fail. I'd take a look there, they are pretty cheap on jpcycles or ebay. But that led deal shouldn't be the cause.

@@Mikeityourself .......... hey,, thank you for the reply! This EVO has no points I can tell you that it has a aftermarket speedo / tach etc; that somebody had to tap into the wire harness somewhere. It does have a wire to the coil to read the RPM. Whoever did it knew what they were doing. When it ran it reads the speed, charging gauge, mileage just perfect. I even unhooked it.. same. But the dang thing runs great until something fails. I am almost convinced that this rascal has the original ICM box on the down tubes up front. On that ICM box it has two wires that plug into a plug on the motor with a loaded wire holder that keeps it in pace. And one wire that runs back to a... what looks like a ballast, little chrome box with a copper post and a silver post that's mounted to the inner rear fender. I changed that tonight.. haha wishful thinking. I'm looking tonight for that Ignition Control Module (ICM) on the down tubes in front. Hell I've replaced everything else.. I'm very lucky to have a shop about 30 mi. from me, this guy has a ton of parts.. new and old for this bike! Sorry for the long message.. I know its tough trying to help somebody like this. Gonna try that ICM up front. I'll let you know how it turns out. And thanks again,, I really appreciate it!

    Mike,
What year Softail do you have? I bought this same unit for mine 95 fatboy. I was told the original module was under the right gas tank. I removed it and went to install this same unit. Before making everything final i wanted to test the new unit. Well it did nothing. Am i messing with the wrong module perhaps?

My Fatboy was a 95, I don't have it anymore but my module was stuffed in the battery box. Someone has already put an aftermarket one on just wasn't as good. If you got the same one I did, it's for that bike. If you aren't getting anything, it could be for a few reasons. Id prob the wires before and after for voltage, I'd also check the grounds. It's a pretty straight forward setup so you might have just gotten a bad one.

What did you tie the yellow and grey into? Are the LED wires tied together into the one wire?

The turn signals on the rear of my bike are simple two wire LEDs, they are actually trailer clearance lights that I retro fitted into the bullet housings. I tied the yellow & Grey to the Positive on those which provides the Stop/Run and Turn. The unit itself controls the voltage/ output to make the lights brighter or dim as needed. Hope that answers your question. Thanks for your support.

@@Mikeityourself thank you Mike. That does clear things up. I was actually leaning that way, but i haven't tested the function. Thanks again.
