In this tutorial, you will learn one of the most common caixa patterns in Rio's samba schools. Referred to here as "Partido Alto 1," it is derived from a partido-alto pattern on pandeiro and is typically played with the caixa in a high position cradled in the arm. This style of playing partido-alto rhythms on the caixa in this upward position ("caixa em cima" or "caixa above") is believed to have originated in Rio's Estácio de Sá Samba School, later spreading to other schools in Rio and beyond.
