Another way to set up water level offset is, zoom in on the contour lines that you're idling over, see how deep the transducer is telling you it actually is, then adjust your levels up or down so that the contour lines adjust to actual depth. Nice video.
I have a Helix 7 . What I could afford. I have to install it yet , but the weather is crazy. I'll have to wait until it warms up a bit. Thank you for your advice and it was a great video
Informative and helpful tutorial. I never knew about the chart auto vessel setting and SI range setting. I haven't seen this covered before by anyone else. I'll be selecting those settings on my Solix.
Thanks for the good info, coming from Lowrance my new 10" Helix is all greek to me, I added Vx chips and am slowly learning, hopefully I get it before I wear the boat out! lol
Some lakes I fish aren't listed or have no water depth info available so what I do is zoom in my map to a particular contour line and adjust the offset to what my depth reading is from my transducer.. been doing that since I have had the birds and is pretty accurate.
Awesome tutorial! Ill be making some change to my VX chart. I have a Helix 12 so im hoping i have some of your recommended settings like Range circles, SI Range, Vessel offset Auto, etc. My lake I fish is deep, here in Arizona, so Shaded Relief will be checked. Thanks again!
@BigJimFishing no worries you really explained well. I hope you do one with auto chart live. I almost have a local lake mapped out. I placed it on humminbird chart select for the world to see. Eagle Creek reservoir Indiana
Thank you very helpful! I am a subscriber and have the same Solix with a Lakemaster V X chip. Despite a season of use still have learned a lot. Hope I can find a video on Autochart live and use with and compare to Lakemaster.
Great content Jim. One thing that I would be sure that people understand is that under Vessel options, the difference between heading and course choices. Many, including me, may have had the course option (green line) checked and they notice that the direction of the boat traveling is not the direction of the green line and are told that they are getting magnetic interference. Wrong. If they check the heading option as you describe, which displays a yellow line, then the boat direction lines up with the direction you are traveling. The green course line is useful if you are drift fishing an area. I moved my HB heading sensor twice because I was told that the placement of the puck was picking up magnetic interference, when in fact, it was simply a menu choice error. Well done video.
Hey big Jim how long does it take solar bay to make and ship Prescription sun glasses. I ordered mine two weeks ago. Forgot to ask the lady a timeline. Thought maybe you might know thanks
I have a question for you... in order for Follow the Contour to show on the pop up menu, does my trolling motor have to deployed? Im in my garage and FTC doesn't show.
Lakemaster VX Card. Here in Central IL we have some small natural lakes I fish. It seems that no matter how I mess with the settings on the shading, Contour lines etc some of the lakes to not show good contour lines throughout the map. I have checked the settings several times made sure I have them set right but the map still shows very little contour lines I have the shading set but does some of the lakes that are on the hummingbird VX card just not mapped that well to show all the contour lines in the map? Just wandering if others have had the same happening. I can get a photo and show what the map looks like if that would help? Thank You, Appreciate any suggestions.
I have 2 solix 15s and the external puck but my GPS is all over the place once I sit down on a waypoint. Can't seem to figure it out. I would pay you to go out with me and teach me on them lol I'm a local
If possible, I would like to hire you to help me set up my own system. Please let me know at your earliest. I am in the Northeast and the season is closing quickly.
Thanks!
Thank you Sir

Unfortunately, my HB VX Premium Maps does not have Range Rings, SI Range, nor Vessel Offset Auto (only On or Off).
@bigjimfishing Helix doesn't have the SI indicator nor Range Rings, but the Vessel Offsert set to On is same as Auto for Solix.
Great job Jim ... thanks for taking your time and sharing your help with this
Thanks for watching!
Did you show where VX recommend to fish for a certain species 🤔
no I did not.
