I hear ya on the weather. Walleye and pike open today in New York. It's been beautiful until yesterday. 24 hours of hard rain and today blowing 30 with 45 mph gusts. Omg.
I just got my pb last week... 39inches, 17lbs... south west michigan... she was released unharmed after a few shots... go look @Pure_michigan_angler on insta for the shots of her... and what bait is an absolute slayer of esox
@@TodaysAngler thx for responding. At what point when using casting is it concerned, bait finess? 🤔 myself I switch to spinning at 5/8 max lure weight rod. Anything under 5/8 is spinning for me. Also any particular reason for using the casting instead of spinning other than personal preference? Thank you.
I never got to try pushing always wanted to do a lot of trout and bass which I should post on UA-cam I am a kid but I really want to try I’m hoping somebody will be able to pick me up one day either my dad or someone who is a guide where I live I’ve gotten taken out by guide for striped bass but not pike yet hopefully I will be able to😊
Hi. I'm from Sweden and I'm very curious on how large your pikes are over there. We don't have musky here so pike is the largest predator in our waters. We would say that a good pike would be from 36" and 10lb, a large pike would be 40" and 20lb and then they go up to 52" and 45lbs. From alot of videos I watch from north america it seems that those big pikes does not exist. Can that be because of that you have musky? What's your take on that?
40" pike are normally the "big ones" and yeah. Ive seen 44"inch pike here in Michigan before. Although rare super rare. And yeah I'm no biologist but I'd assume musky have something to with that. Musky are the Apex predators here and both pike and musky are cannibalistic but it really depends on the body of water. I live about an hour from lake at Clair (tons of musky) and pike. But there are not a lot of musky on the inland lakes around me so the pike get really big in some cases. My pb pike 34"inches 11.5 pounds
In a natural lake where muskies and pike compete that is often a limiting factor, but in many cases most of the bodies of water didn’t have pike 150 years ago, or native fish populations (like Muskie or walleye) are mush lower now. Consequently, the ecosystem doesn’t have any checks to keep their population growth lower. As a result, many of the pike suffer density dependent growth and can’t reach their biological potential.
This lake is home of tge WI state record of 38lbs, probably not true but big ones none the less. Definitely small ones on this day. Anything over 34" is certainly respectable but 40 is our benchmark. Both Robbie and my biggest is 43.5" here in WI. Lee
Go get yourself some Yum Christie Craws. You can get a 30 pack at Dick's Sporting Goods for I think maybe $12. Something like that. They work great for swim jig trailers.
I'm back in April 2023, watching again! This spring were fishing the Mississippi back waters in La Crosse, WI. Thanks again!

6.10 medium? That's a 1/2oz max lure weight.
That's a noodle! That's spinning rod numbers.
Gives the needed delay for swimjig fishin.
@@TodaysAngler what weight was the jig? 1/4oz?
Yes

40" inch is pretty much our trophy class pike they do get bigger but its rare although Canada lakes get some pigs
