  • It's funny how instructors teach players unnatural movements in the name of "golf." Trust your instincts. This simple drill with a stick and a smash bag can help give you a better understanding for how your hands and wrists work through the ball.
    Don't just play golf. Understand it.

    Mike - no words are enough to thank you for making golf fun and natural. I was doing wrist rotation for years and got frustrated. Golf is fun again!

    I am 68 years young. I have tried the Single Plane, Stack & Tilt, Mike Austin swing and the A' Swing to name a few. They all have some helpful elements but I did not find the consistency I needed. Mike Malaska's L to L swing and how the hands work revolutionized my game. I used to shoot in the 90's. Now I am between a 12-15 handi-cap. The ball is rocketing off my club straight down the middle. Average drive 240-260. Hit a couple of 300 yrd. bombs! BTW, the chipping video where you tilt your left shoulder down and hover the club over ground has eliminated fat and sculled shots. Thanks MM! I am finally playing golf, not just playing at it!

    Hi Mike your videos through lockdown have transformed my game and I’m hitting the ball better than ever. Handicap on the way down and I’ve recommended your channel to so many people. I can’t thank you enough. More relaxed, less shoulder and back issues. Pleas keep them coming.

    Our golf courses just open again fr a 3 months c19 lockdown...after a long break... initially attempt back at the range n course felt weird as the tempo and rhythm was all haywire... topping... duffting... hooking...flipping, you name it... I really felt like a beginner although I usually make sub 80.. but due to the great master Mr Malaska's many videos which has gave me a good understanding since the first lock down in March 2020... I manage to get back to my usually game pretty quickly... thank you again Malaska for all the great swing toughts and super logic explanation. ( especially on the downswing where the club head should be infront of me rather than falling backwards and the pivot points... ohhhh that move is so critical)

    Brilliant videos. I was close to calling time on golf due to a snap hook with the driver, after watching a few of Mike's videos I cured the snap hook and was striping drives down the middle of the range.

    Excellent video. Thanks for posting it. As an extension of this drill, I have also been hitting balls using the driver with only my left arm. There is pretty much only the natural way to do that too. Then my drives using both arms are getting more solid and going farther and farther.

    I love it Mike ,, can't make it any simpler, I think.iam correct saying this because it happens to me everytime I swing ,if you come into impact at the ball with your grip proper and on the right plane,arc, your hands do that automatically without doing anything to them ,, iam never thinking about that part of swing because it's happens Naturally!! Thanks Mike I love uncomplicated Teaching!!

    100% agree with you Mike. I’m new to the game. However, why do you need the left thumb on the shaft. I play better with it around the shaft. Do you hit something with your thumb on the stick? Cannot find an answer. Very keen to find out why.

    A success story: For what it’s worth, I am about two weeks into my conversion to the Malaska method and tho I keep doing the smash bag drills and other suggested drills, but I have struggled with trying to stop rolling my wrists to and thru impact - until a couple days ago. Found a simple fix that works for for me. Instead of “coiling” my right index finger around the grip I extend it diagonally down the shaft. After tipping the shaft at start of downswing it’s now unnatural to roll my wrists and instead I automatically get the hands working the way Mike calls for. Wow! Contact is now SO crisp! And I “feel” my index finger behind the shaft versus around the shaft. Any thoughts on whether this will eventually cause other problems?

  • @cyrilwannaz6137
    @cyrilwannaz6137 3 роки тому

    I already changed my grip thanks to other videos from Mike but this one is for me the most straight forward on the why, what, how 😊
    But, now with such a strong left hand, I have the impression that I have way too much of forward shaft lean… I know it is difficult without any picture or video, but I think I was quite too symmetric, in my grip, ball position maybe too much in the middle and not really feeling any tilted spine: so I could obtain a “normal” shaft lean by combining a ball closer to my front foot, half of my pectoral I would say and with a bit more of tilted spine, but I am a bit scared to compensate flaws with new ones :/
    Any advises?

    The back of the left hand, what angle is it at when compared to the target line when contact is made? Back of left hand meaning where the golf glove velcro's together. Almost looks like its at a 90 degree angle to the target line when hitting the impact bag. Surely i am mistaken

    KISS( Keep It Simple Stupid) Thanx Mike as you often said Its “Not Rocket Science”. To often I overthink what I am trying to do which leads to a whole array of swing thoughts instead of just letting it happen naturally.

  • @maybesaadkhan
    @maybesaadkhan 3 роки тому +1

    My main point of confusion is in the follow through. Mike says not to rotate your forearms, but when I let my left arm hang naturally and grip the club, I have a strong grip that requires forearm rotation in the follow through in order to fully release the club. Otherwise it feels like I’m going to hyper-extend my left wrist and hurt myself. Even in this video it looks like Mike rotates his left forearm in the follow through, so I’m confused on his whole “don’t rotate your forearms” instruction. Holding off the rotation until the follow though seems like a solution, but that also adds too much timing and seems hard to do at full speed. Any clarification is welcome.

    • @BOBPERIO2
      @BOBPERIO2 3 роки тому

      Just let the clubhead rotate naturally through the impact zone. If you have minimal tension in your arms and hands, the clubhead will rotate counterclockwise naturally, as it is designed to do. Now just sync up your body rotation with the clubhead release and you’re off to the races!!!

    • @spenno73
      @spenno73 3 роки тому

      The left arm rotation happens after impact not coming into the ball and it’s the whole arm not just the hand. Traditional teaching says close the face coming into the ball 👍🏻

    • @MrGCline
      @MrGCline 3 роки тому

      @@BOBPERIO2 It seems that I have the same problem that Saad describes. My problem though I think comes from playing with a weaker grip and trying to release the club through impact which results in a pulled shot to the left. The same thing that Mike describes in this video.

    Great Video, but you never talked about a loose wrist , which you must have. I and many other golfers are too tight in the wrist to let the club release.

    There is only one question I can't fully answer to myself. How does the hand & wrist movement in this video combine with the L to L movement. I would really appreciate someone giving me an explanation to that question.
