Doing this has changed my game for the better always use to hit a draw which could turn into a hook, but now I can aim down the middle or even left side and hit it straight to a small cut. Who knew that a strong grip could do that. Nice video
Thanks Matt. It’s unbelievable what the grip can do not only to the face but how everything else reacts as well......and how much control you start to get to to mention added distance at the strike because now your playing with a square face. I see it everyday with my students.
I couldn’t agree more Willie....The club face controls the ball and your hands control the club face. So you better make damn sure your hands are on the club properly in a functional manner to work the face properly.
I do this as a drill sometimes. Grip it strong, and try to start the ball right. It makes you side bend more, and rotate more. If you stall your body rotation, your hands and arms WILL TAKE OVER. That ball is hooking off the planet. I would love to play this way, but unfortunately, I need more flexibility.
nice vid Billy....except the wind-blowing noise keeps coming up in the video..lol. Mike's grip is just awesome, makes so much sense biomechanically and athletically. A simple change makes life so much easier!
Well, let’s just say after shooting a 2+ (74) I’ve sub’d to you and Mr.Malaska’s YT channels. Playing Monday, hope it wasn’t just a one round miracle. 😬
Ran right out and tried this and my swing is smoother and less mechanical, but ball is flying hard left. I think I need to slow my swing down but I don't want to loose distance.
Hi Jonathan…the hook comes from the face twisting over after impact. Try making the toe of the club work up and not over after the strike and the ball won’t hook.
At the 5:16 mark Mike is talking about the backswing and feeling like the club face is open , but because of your grip it really would be neutral and not open? Did I understand that correct
He's saying with the correct (strongish) grip, the average amateur will feel like the clubface is too closed during the takeaway and therefore either consciously (or subconsciously) open the clubface with too much hands/forearm rotation on the backswing. BUT - the clubface is actually NOT too closed with the correct grip/wrist break.
The problem that I have with a strong left hand grip is pain in my left thumb in the backswing and downswing. Otherwise, I totally agree with you. To counter the thumb pain I just keep the face closed on the downswing and keep my left thumb more on top of the shaft. This technique seems to work fairly well and eliminates the thumb pain.
Hi Stan. I wonder where the pain comes from. Couple things to check is the left thumb will fit in the right hand life line. Also check your grip pressure so that you can feel the head of the club. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 👍⛳️
Unfortunately Lots of Mike's grip explanations which, like all his work, are normally fantastic are hard to see because of the camera position . Can we have side-on close-ups please?
interesting, all the focus of this conversation is for people who hook it too much, so presumably it would be somewhat opposite advice for people who slice it too much.
Hi Alex. For more clarification on the grip have a look at my video grip and grip functions. If the top hand is on the club properly the bottom can begin to work more down the line in a less timing and flipping orientation.
Malaska is undoubtedly the best teacher out there. With the exception of Padraig, he's all I listen to.
His simplicity and ability to communicate effectively is second to none.
One of the finest explanations of hand action through the ball I’ve seen, pure gold! Also, the tip on setup - open is square! 👍
Best golf teacher ever
Mike! This is an absolute GEM of a video! Awesome! I wish I had this knowledge 20 years ago! Thank you for posting it! Jeff.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video! Mike has a way to simplify the golf swing like no other teacher. Thanks for sharing.

Words of wisdom.
So knowledgeable 👍⛳️
This is awesome! And I hear my other fave (Milo) in the background!
Thanks for watching 👍👏⛳️
Another lovely video!
Great explanation and demonstration
Glad it was helpful!
Hey Billy I made a comment in one of your other videos that I follow a few teachers and Mike's one of them he's awesome!! Thanks great stuff
This grip/wrist information might be the most important thing for any golfer to learn.
I couldn’t agree more Willie....The club face controls the ball and your hands control the club face. So you better make damn sure your hands are on the club properly in a functional manner to work the face properly.
Just subbed because of your work with MM.
I agree. Ive tried the wrist curl thing and its a weak position and a good way to hurt your wrist.
Did I hear, set the club open at address as slightly open will be square at impact?
This is good conversation. Thanks.
Yes because there is a little twist in the club head @ impact because of the grip.
Great info as usual Mike 👍

Great feels there!
Would help to see this kind of info from face on vs behind
Try a the grip and how it functions on my channel. It’s from face on and should help.

Wait until you chip and pitch with it 👍⛳️🔥💯
Thanks for watching ⛳️👍
Trying this out for the first time in about an hour. Wish me luck! 😬
Hope it went well and thanks for watching @Baddmnkey1⛳️👍

Hit the ball with your trail hand with an underhand motion (using the grip Mike teaches). That will control that pull.

@@willieorwontee2043 ahhhh got it . Thank you
The clubface is square to the swing arc
Excellent concepts. Unfortunately the sound quality made it difficult to follow this video.
Thanks Joe…Unfortunately we were not wearing microphones
Slap hinge release?
Flexion/extension
Why am I slicing the ball it even when I use the grip you describe?
open clubface

NP if you look back in my videos you will find grip and grip function pieces
So Mike don’t teach the hand/arm pivot anymore ? This seems the opposite
I would assume he does…just not relevant in this particular session…but I’m not speaking for Mike.

It works for both
The wind makes this unbearable
Yes..microphones are a must
Terrible sound guys. Too much wind noise.
