Third party has pretty much taken over my masterpiece style collecting. With so many better built, better looking, better engineered, and certainly better priced options out there, my loyalty to "official" is quickly circling the drain. If TT upped their game, the prices might at least be justified. Thanks for another great review!

Watching you tranform and handle Dirge gives me alarm bells to stay away, but then in the end, it is posed and has become a thing of beauty. My coneheads are Yes Model and they are tight and firm. So I'm happy.

From eleven years with the same issues... not torso in place, no shoulders in place... I have the MP-3 Starscream Designer's Operations far away from 2006. The first on his class and cost me less money.

I went with the Toyworld. Thank goodness i stopped at Skywarp. Im keeping the 5 Hasbrow seekers and the 3 Toyworld. I love the way they look on my shelf. but that dosent mean i would not get rid of them if something better comes along. Great Review as always.

Great review as always Skull Brother!!! I think ill wait and see what Make Toys puts out. Only because I'm not quite in the middle. I have MP Star Scream, Thundercracker and Acid Storm so I can easily go elsewhere. Thanks and keep up the great work...

see , theres more people think TT really set that $120 price tag. ITS TRUE PRICE is approximately $80 , come on . $120 is price set by western retail shop. Who is greedy now ?
astartespete that's not entirely true. It's true you can get them for about 75$ usd but that's because some Japanese retailers offer a 30% off preorder incentive.

You and me, Bobby, we're in the same boat, on the same rocky sea - one seeker away, too far gone to stop now. In fact, my Dirge should be here in about 12 hours. While I won't get the sense of satisfaction I did when FT Grinder arrived to finish my Dinobots, it'll be some satisfaction nonetheless. And some relief.

I like him.. Glad to have the season 1&2 Seekers complete. I see your Dirge's fingers are 180 degrees on their ballpegs too.. As far as the 3rd party versions go.. When there's an official version, I'll go official.
it depends. for instance, im selling my hot rod and going with fanstoys and im keeping my sunsurge and passing on sunstreaker. but i sold my apollyon and bought megs. its a case by case basis with me
That's fair enough. I get the official regardless. In the case of Sunstreaker I'll be getting him regardless of already owning both Sunsurge and Spinout. But if official Sunstreaker had come out first, I wouldn't have bothered with the former two. An exception being Grimlock. I've got Grinder on my desk at work looking completely badass, despite owning MP8 and MP8X. The best thing about all this is that there's more choice than ever, and there's always going to be a figure that'll scratch your particular itch, official or otherwise.

I really hope you're dog doesn't have diabetes, I used to take care of a friend's pet that had that and it's terrible. It's cool to finally see Dirge come to the light of day, however, to me it seems that it's somewhat bitter/sweet. PP7 and BB8... lol you've pretty much nailed it on that one. Although I have this complete too, but I am interested in how the Maketoys turn out. Thanks for sharing man!

I'm deep in that rabbit hole too man, I feel like I have no choice in the matter but to pony up that dough for Dirge. Which is not the right feeling you should have for adding a cool figure to your collection, but sixth time around, Takara should send us all personalized thank you/I'm sorry cards. I can't do the rainmakers, I can't. White girl levels of can't even at the thought of more of this mold.
Great review for this guy, in your shoes I'd have tossed him on the review table and yelled obscenities at Takara for 10 minutes lol

Put this mold down. Please. In a world where MakeToys is about to put out a brand new modern seeker out there's no use for it. Even the people who collect the seekers hate it. I'm so sorry for you loss.
Not to mention if someone really wants the MP-11 Takara version, Yes Model put out the set of 6 MP11 seekers and coneheads for half the price and fixed almost all of the mold issues.

There is a use for it if the Maketoys one isn't any good, and the side of the jet is looking iffy there... Think of how long since the show came out it took just to get this mold. Anyway, I hate the official product in general.
I saw a bonus parts for Dirge, anybody know which is the release which it come from? Hong Kong or Japan?
I will be buying this guy to complete my seekers as many people are...though if Takara releases a new improved version of the Seeker mold, I might break.
I just wish Takara had done better with the coneheads than they did as I think all three have had some QC issues. Ramjet's reversed arm issues, Thurst's 'bobble waist', and I'm sure Dirge has issues as well.

In the end I went KO for skywarp, Dirge and one of the others. Yes/BB7 just put more time into fixing things. Their loss for that level of price and mold design issue (start scream).

yea, its a tough review to do because what really more can you say about this mold, most people know what time it is before they even click lol
I bought it to just finish my set and the misery is not over. Still wondering if i should have grabbed the Yes Models. They look nice and have great tolerance fixes and tons of accessories.

Bobby Skullface L I may feel different after we see it in color and with a price, but Maketoys is almost too much cartoon. I like the details of the MP mold. Just not the lack of ankle and shit tolerances lol
yeah the yes model versions are awesome I just got Dirge and Ramjet the joints are tighter then the floppiness of the official versions
Is the face mold the same as the other two? It looks best in the dark gray if so. Always thought Thrust face looked derpy...

You mentioned the Rainmakers, but did we not already get Acid Storm? Heck, we even got Sunstone, who isn't a Rainmaker, I know, but he was so minimalist in the series that is it REALLY a stretch to think we will get Nova Storm and I on Storm? For the latter all they need to do is cut down paint apps from Thinderceacker, I'm sure you'd love that lol.

Official though or KO? I knew there were KO's in those colors. Give in Bobby, you know the shelf needs Rainmakers. Know what would be interesting? If they could do them as Tetra jets. Maybe not like the iffy Impossible Toys, lol, but dare I suggest an MP Tetra jet mold?

I literally took him out of the box, checked it was in one piece and no paint chips. Breathed a huge sigh of relief and boxed him back up :)
I haven't received mine yet, but I'm glad to see the waist is not as floppy as Thrust was for me.
I too will feel relieved when I'm able to place Dirge on my shelf to complete the Seeker nightmare.
As for the person stating that we set the high U.S. Price , I disagree. All Takara TomyMall Exclusives have a higher retail Japanese price point before any discounts.
Dirge=18,700yen
Thrust =19,800yen
Ramjet=19.000yen
Even stores like AE need to secure them differently than normal release stock. So AE can't provide the upfront 30% off discount, they may offer a 9% off discount instead.
Keep in mind MP-11 Starscream was a regular release and was priced around 12,000yen. It's not until we saw Takara TomyMall Exclusives tax come into play where the price point almost doubled.
I personally feel Takara shouldn't have made any of the seekers Takara TomyMall Exclusives. It's really a kick in the pants for us collectors.

When I was a kid watching Transformers I remember hating them. That first episode where. they showed up I was like "Who is this guy? Where's Skywarp and Thundercraker?!" I felt betrayed.

I really like the Yes Model Dirge. I always pass on official seekers. Expecting good paint from Takara has been a mistake for quite some time now.
mmm. idk, ironhide (and you know i hate that figure) had great paint, primal as well. i think it a case by case basis
What I don't understand is that some of the KO companies have fixed the loose chest and shoulder ratchets thing, so why hasn't Takara?

hordak83 Well TBH, I hear that the reason TT didn't give the Coneheads a proper number like MP-41 or whatever is that they have no intention of reissuing them. I also read that TT is working on doing the Coneheads 2.0, which could also mean seekers 3.0. But what do I know. I'm just a collector! :)
I see, thanks for the info. :) Aesthetically, I have no problems with the MP-11 coneheads, they are pretty much Toon accurate. Their functionality, however, is far from being perfect. I just hope they will focus on solving these issues, instead of producing new version CHs.
The YES Model figures seem to be better in that they don't have a lot of wobbling. Albeit the chest intakes still lift up a bit

Man, Im still having my doubts about if I should get the rest of the Takara seekers... On one hand I've only bought Starscream and Ramjet so far, and Im basicly just after the molds and not the repaints. On the other hand however... I really want to get the Takara Thundercracker (I have the Hasbro one), Skywarp, Dirge and Thrust. If it wasn't for the fact that I want to keep my MP TF collection strictly official and Takara, I would probably buy those MakeToys versions... Shit, maybe I should just buy some beers and try to drink and forget instead.

I bought the Hasbro Acid Storm when it was released and I was so disappointed with the mold. It was my first masterpiece seeker and I couldn't believe how sloppy the robot mode was. I couldn't justify spending any more money on that mold. Hopefully Maketoys does the seekers justice.

The tops of the wings in robot mode are obnoxious, can you fold the main wings further back like ramjet?

toyworld is making these seekers so much better. i know you dont like 3rd party but i cant see buying official just because it's official. it's because people only want official, and takara knows that, they make lower quality toys and people eat em up. for my money i will buy quality over official. it would be happy if the 2 were with takara. hey, I always enjoy your reviews!

Should have gone Yes Model Bobby :P No QC, joint or paint issues on ANY of my 6 seekers. Im ashamed that Has/Tak gets away with these issues.

Lets be honest. Takara mailed these Coneheads in for a cash grab. The mold is dated. But no reason they couldnt ensure everything was tolerance right for the price.

I like the yes model versions better and only about $90
Aaron Mauer 4 out of 6 of my mp11 seekers are yes model. The only official seekers i have are mp11 starscream(TT) and mp11 skywarp(TT). Thundercracker and the the coneheads are all from yes model.
poloskier1967 the quality is better than mp and they are half the price so I am not sure why someone wouldn't go that route

It's much easier to improve something that already exists with a known issues and that's what the KO companies do. Of course the Takara products are pricey and we are all aware of the issues that comes with their molds and they definitely deserve the critiques. But, without Takara, there wouldn't have been any of the KO companies. The fact is that Takara invests a lot in designing, engineering, producing a product, plus for the marketing, while the KO companies have much lesser expenses due to their reverse engineering approach. If we all stop buying Takara/Hasbro toys, their business will suffer and there is a chance they simply give up on investing in this line anymore. There would be no KOs and any other third party products of a higher quality, like the FanToys Devastator or the X-Transbots Cyclonus, would be expensive as they are now. We should think about this before recommending someone to give up on Takara and start with the KO adventure.
I partly agree with you. Without Takara/Hasbro's inspiration, there would not be 3rd Party & KO companies. However, most 3rd Parties have produced Masterpiece styled offerings that are not just improved/reverse engineered products, but their own designs totally thanks to modern 3D modeling and manufacturing techniques. Many were made way before Takara produced them. There is no Takara equivalent to X-Transbots Eligos/Cyclonus. The 3rd Party Devastators have all been different interpretations, inspired by, but not just a rip off of Takara, since they came out before the Combiner Wars Devastator. The Fans Toys Devastator is tbd.
I was talking strictly about KOs, the 3rd Party companies have their own designs and I actually mentioned several good examples. The point is that those products are also pricey, even though they are not the Takara products, which just, imo, proves the point that in order to develop a solid product, you have to invest a lot and that's why the FanToys Devastator costs $450-$600 and the MP-36 is $230, etc.
i never have and never would recommend a KO, nor will i review them. house rule

With all the ko companies solving the problem by extending the tab a little bit to keep the figure together, what excuse does takara have for that problem still existing in 2017? Robot hero uses higher quality plastics and paint, fixed all the issues with the seeker mold and they sell for 90 dollars. I'm not even complaining about takara's price points just wondering why we can't get better than a knock off for our money. Megatron and sunstreaker are giving me hope that they've realized their brand power isn't enough and that they have to up the ante and set the trend again.

Yes Model seekers are ten times better than these. Dont like how loose the MP seekers are. YM all locks into place, and doesnt wobble at all. Takara should be ashamed.
