@@EdKolis It was confirmed in an interview that the localizers accidentally deadnamed Megaman in the script and they had to reshoot that part and cheaply splice it in which is why it sounds so awkward.
I'm not going to lie I don't like Johnny Young Bosch as Zero. He sounds fine and all, but for Zero's character it just sounds really awkward. Zero's the only character in MVC3 that I actually switched the voice to Japanese.
I'm not 100% certain, but i _think_ i heard Johnny's voice as Zero in the Nintendo Direct for Smash Bros. Ultimate yesterday. So I guess Capcom decided to keep him on as the new official voice of Zero.
Morgil Lucas Gilbertson really was the perfect casting for Zero. I hope if X9 ever happens we can get the X8 actors back. They really hit the ball out of the park with those.
I think Johnny might be my favorite voice of Zero. And I can actually imagine a potential LA dub of the Mega Man franchise using voices like Lucien Dodge as Proto Man, Kyle Hebert as Dr. Light, and maybe Kira Buckland as Roll. Just wishful thinking, nothing big.
Since I'm planning on becoming a voice actor in the future, this series is great for both American and Japanese voice acting trivia. Keep up the good work, Chris! Another interesting piece of trivia to add: Shotaro Morikubo also went on to voice Yosuke Hanamura in Persona 4.
Oh snap shotaro morikubo I thought I realized his lovely as Yosuke Hanamura in persona 4 I would say that Morikubo -san is my favorite 2nd favorite seiyuu thank you
Jonny's done TONS of voiceovers for anime and games, it's probably got it's own list somewhere on the 'net. Though two of my favorite roles I've liked him as was Guy from Tales of the Abyss and Adachi/Yu from Persona 4.
Holy crap, that Iris death scene redub...It's amazing how something that I've only been able to see as a narmy joke for so very long can suddenly sound so genuine. Also, further proof that Johnny Young Bosch and Scott McNeil should just voice everything. Including the women.
The Megaman Legends series had excellent voice-acting - really made me fall in love with the characters more. As for Zero's "There's no reason for me to go on! WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOR?!" it was so bad it was good.
To be completely honest, this is where it comes down to personal opinion. I actually feel the "bad" aka the original version of X4s infamous scene is better, much better, I can actually feel and hear the emotion there, and lets be honest, in a traumatic scene, you're not going to keep a "professional" voice. A lot people don't seem to get that, the "new" version of it... feels a bit too forced, like hes just screaming to scream, I don't feel the sense of loss or pain, I just hear a guy screaming at the top of his lungs. :/ As I said though, its preference.
Whitemage Serenia The voice for Zero in the original was bad. The scream was awful to listen here. It sounded like that guy had never voice acted before, and changed the sound of his scream in mid-scream. If you're screaming at the top of your lungs it shouldn't differentiate in sound. This guy sounded like he didn't know how to scream. At least that's my opinion. The new professional voice actor sounded much better because to me he sounded like how Zero should have sounded. And being a professional he didn't sound like he was forcing anything, because he's played Zero before and went back to do that scene on his own accord. He just sounded so much better and believable. Once again that's just my opinion. However the best one is the Japanese voice actor. I don't even know what he was saying, but I could feel the emotion while he was talking and the scream sold it for me. He was very good.
I remember the voice acting in X4 wasn't that great. People criticised X's child-like voice (which felt more suitable for classic Mega Man) and Dr. Wily's voice during that short intro scene with Zero wasn't nearly as good as other Dr Wily voice actors. But the Zero/Iris scene tops the chart, lol.
Christopher Niosi Shotaro Morikubo voiced X in X5 to X7, also singing X5's OP and X6's ED. He voiced Dynamo as an extra, he only said one line as the character. Nice video overall! Would've liked if you covered the MMNT and MMSF anime too, though :P
I remember when Advent Children was announced and my sister and I were researching the Japanese VAs and we came across Sakurai's other roles.. 'ROCKMAN X - X' ... I FLIPPED THE FUCK OUT so bad...!!! XD Sakurai plays X in Project Cross Zone. :3 Lucas is also a great guy in general and gets involved in the Mega Man community all the time. If you go to Rockman Perfect Memories they have a small batch of clips he recorded as a welcome to their site in his Zero voice. Johnny also COSPLAYS as characters he's voiced sometimes. Here's a picture of him cosplaying as Kiba from Wolf's Rain (who he also voiced.) www.cosplay.com/photo/277175/
Loved the video, and a great spiritual spinoff of the Did You Know series :) Mega Man was one of those shows I loved as a kid, and actually I've been wanting to track down some DVDs of it. Thanks for the reminder! ;)
Excellent work, Chris! My bro and I remember those performances at best, and we love the Blue Water Studios dubs the best for the X series (though it's a shame that Mark Gatha retired from voice acting. He was perfect as X.) I think you should make a next DYKVA of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sometimes. We would love to see some facts out of one of our childhood icons, like mention that the original VA of Raphael is now Donatello in the 2012 show. That'll be great. Keep up the good work!
Christopher Niosi Awswome! Not going to lie, was not expecting a direct reply from you the video maker. Anywho great work, just discovered your stuff tonight actually watched this the DBZ and the Sonic one so far. I liked them soooo subbed
Yeah, Johnny's the best voice for Zero IMO. Thanks for doing this awesome series, Chris! I'm a big fan of Brawl Taunts and my dream is to be a voice actor for Funimation!
For a suggestion on what to do next, perhaps a celebrity one, where you have a list of major and some fun trivia roles that celebrities have voice acted for, or take a single specific actor and talk about what they're done.
I'm here from the _Rockman Corner_. That was a pretty fun and fairly informative video! As Protodude mentioned, some of this is pretty common knowledge stuff, the stuff that wasn't (to me, at least) was especially interesting. I enjoyed the episode.

Roger Rhodes, the dude voiced Vile in X8 and Maverick Hunter X, also voiced Neo America's Chibodee Crocket from G Gundam That adds up to three Mega Man X characters that shared the same voice actors in G Gundam's dub
Actually Shotaro Morikubo did actually voice X for Mega Man X5, X6 and X7, he was cast as both Dynamo and X, oddly enough, Mega Man X5 only had Voice Acting for X, Zero and Dynamo.
I would have left out the fact about Powerful Rangers and mentioned Johnny's more popular voice acting roles Ichigo Kurosaki from bleach and lelouch vi britannia form Code Geass
He has also voiced some others too, like Emil Rastagnier from Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World, Yukio Okumura from Blue Exorcist (good anime), Brock (Pokemon Origin anime), Johnny (Space Dandy), and Vash The Stampede (Trigun), I can say that he has done a lot and to be honest it was hard for me to remember what roles he had because there are a lot of things he did (which I thank google/wikipedia for helping me, also good for finding other voice actor/actress).
Robyn Ross (voice of Roll) was probably well known to Nickelodeon/YTV audiences as Brooke Morgan on "Fifteen", or "Hillside" as it was known in Canada.

Very cool. :-) One extra tidbit; in addition to playing Zero and the black Power Ranger, Bosch was also the English dub voice for Vash the Stampede, the star of the anime Trigun.
When are you going to mention Andrea Libman who not only voiced Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie (Yes I know it's MLP, but it's still voice acting), but Andrea Libman also voiced Roll in the Mega Man OVA!
Don't you mean "Johnny Yong Bosch who we all know as the Black Ranger from Power Rangers and as Vash the Stampede from Trigun and as Emil in Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World and as Ichigo from Bleach and as..." =P
another amazing episode! But uh...when you mentioned Dynamo on the Jap side of things, you said the guys played him in X5 and X8, when it clearly showed X5 and X6...minor screw up though. I really look forward to these, its always great to learn about this stuff! VAs need more love.
I knew X and Domon were the same voice actor's but I should have guessed Sigma was Also Master Asia! Johnny Boshe as Zero isn't too far fetched, he's played in a lot of Anime such as Devil May Cry's Nero, Bleach's Ichigo, and Trigun's Vash.
Another fun fact: even though most of the X8 (Blue Water Studios) cast reprised their roles for Maverick Hunter X, Sigma was recast from Dave Pettitt to Gerald Matthews. Also, Mark Gatha, the voice of X in those games, has retired from voice acting and is now working as a doctor. A shame, cause he was perfect as X. :( If and when Mega Man makes a comeback, they should get Blue Water Studios again. Those guys were awesome. :)
did you know that the voice actor for megaman in the Ruby spears cartoon later went to voice Andy Larkin from Whats with Andy, another canadian produced cartoon.
Surprised you didn't talk about Zero's two famous Japanese actors. Ryōtarō Okiayu who has done I think all of the X series and MVC3 and Yūto Kazama who does the Zero series and a few spin offs. Or that Dr. Weil/Vile in japan in Dr. Eggman, still I love X and Sigma being voiced by my two favs from G Gundam!
Shit was the absolute coolest when Blue Water studios directed the voice acting of X and Sigma in later games of X8, Command Mission, and Maverick Hunter X. Closest thing I wanted to hear from X stating his buster shines with an awesome power.
Also in your opinion would say Megan Man X command mission is more a side game or epilogue in the X series since they just ended in order to focus more Mega Man Zero. Though production for both series were bit hard to determine at times due fan demand for X. Since it was implied that 6 was the finale since Zero is seen entering a capsule which would have lead to Mega Man Zero.
Damn it i was hoping you mention that the voice of Barry Burton from the original Resident Evil (Barry Gjerde) came back to voice Red and Snipe Anteator in Megaman X7
As I mentioned before, my audition in Blue Water Studios, it actually lead me to meeting Lucas Gilbertson, and even went and had dinner with him and Carol-Anne Day. It was pretty sweet. Honestly, I love this sort of thing, I want to know more about the Studio, and this is helping me out, because if I watch, it's easier to take in, but if I just look it up, it just gets to be confusing and a bit much after a bit.
Ah, Lucas Gilbertson is so great! Not only bad-ass as Zero, but his Morikawa from Cardfight Vanguard is much more fun than the Japanese version, as is his Asmodai from Buddy Fight :)
Its funny, for how many megaman games there are, such a small portion actually have voice acting. I also wonder, that on the slim chance Capcom actually makes another Megaman X game, who they would get to do his voice, since Mark Gatha become a doctor. I would choose Eric Vale as he did Casshern who was one of X's inspirations.

Damn it i was hoping you mention that the voice of Barry Burton from the original Resident Evil (Barry Gjerde) came back to voice Red and Snipe Anteator in Megaman X7
huh I didnt know that the Japanese voice actor for X was Cloud as well, also those freaking fangirl screams
I found the Lucas Gilbertson redub mentioned in the video here:
Mega Man X4: The Death of Iris - Redub by Lucas Gilbertson (Original)
Not bad!
I had a feeling the Mega Man Legends voice acting was done in Canada, you can hear Mega Man say 'aboot' several times in the first game.
I sent you a note recently, not sure if you got it!
I don't think I did. Yikes, let me go check.
Johnny's more well known these days for voicing Vash, Lelouch and Ichigo...

@@disastrousabsolite Thanks
Ah, Lucas Gilbertson is so great!
Not only bad-ass as Zero, but his Morikawa from Cardfight Vanguard is much more fun than the Japanese version, as is his Asmodai from Buddy Fight :)
Its funny, for how many megaman games there are, such a small portion actually have voice acting. I also wonder, that on the slim chance Capcom actually makes another Megaman X game, who they would get to do his voice, since Mark Gatha become a doctor. I would choose Eric Vale as he did Casshern who was one of X's inspirations.
Jonny Boch also played Kaneda in the 2001 dub of Akira.
These are good keep up the good work man!
