EDIT 5/20/2016: This video has been modified with annotations to correct inaccuracies and mislabels during the Star Fox voice cast segments. Apologies for the misinformation!
Did you know about the voice actors of your favorite Nintendo characters? Pikachu's voice is the same ALL around the world, and the little electric mouse has been performed by a very prestigious Japanese actress! Not only Pikachu, but good ol' Kirby as well! Some of these characters have gone through some changes, too - the sounds of the Star Fox team's classic catch-phrases started up in Washington, took a trip to England and came back to the US yet again!

Bonus fact: Makiko Ohmoto also voices Ness in the Super Smash Bros. series.
Spacecuba As well as Viridi the Goddess of Nature from Kid Icarus Uprising and Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS.
@@paceycastaneda5238 She also voices Lyn from fire emblem in smash bros brawl and 4 as well as fire emblem heroes and warriors.
Why wasn't Ness mentioned here? He is voiced by the same actress who did Kirby.
Another fun fact that includes Star Fox:
Wolf O'Donnell was voiced in Star Fox Assault by Grant Goodeve, who plays the Engineer class in Team Fortress 2. The soldier class is played by Rick May, who provided the voice for Wolf in Star Fox 64.
Woah! That's cools
I don't even play TF2,and I have only played the Brawl demo of Starfox 64 and a bit of Starfox 64 3D and I think that's awesome!
Rick May was Peppy, not Wolf. Wolf was voiced by Jock Blaney.
I'm still waiting for the day we get a Star Fox anime with a the characters from Assault. They could do so much with it, and i'd sure as hell watch it.
Or even better, a Super Smash Bros. anime
***** YEAH!
Joe DeRosa Id love that,It be an epic space opera series
Well thanks a lot, you made me have the feels again because Maddie Blaustein was the voice for Meowth but she died around the end of Battle Frontier so they got a new voice actress for the episodes that were left. :( I shall cry now.
Maddie's voice for Meowth was replaced on the show before she passed away, since the production moved to a different studio starting from the Battle Frontier season. However, Maddie did appear one more time as the voice of a talking Chatot in "Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time & Darkness"
Yeah that's true but it's still quite sad because we lost an iconic character in the show and a great person in general. I heard she was really sweet. Too bad I'll never meet her..,
Maddie's missed for sure, and she was absolutely a great person. That said, we haven't lost the character; Meowth is still a consistent character in the show and makes kids happy around the world. Carter Cathcart does a great job with keeping the spirit of the character on the show, currently.
Ah, he's great and all, but I still don't watch the show anymore.
Blaustein also voiced Kawasaki in the Kirby anime, which was not mentioned in the Info about Kirby 3D.
Can you guys please do a Did You Know Voice Acting video, on the history of 4Kids. Not just on them as an anime dubbing company, but maybe spend a few seconds talking about some of their American shows, like TMNT '03 & Chaotic, because those shows were awesome!
I may tackle TMNT at some point!
Cool.
Probably one of my favorite bits of trivia about Star Fox voice actors is the strange connection that Wolf has to Team Fortress 2: Rick May, who was the English voice of Andross, Leon and Wolf in Star Fox 64 is also the voice of the Soldier in Team Fortress 2 while Wolf's English voice was Grant Goodeve in Assault; who is also the voice of the Engineer in Team Fortress 2. Pretty interesting coincidence.
Also, you just blew my mind when you brought up how Dan Owsen did the voices for the original Star Fox and ROB 64 in 64's 3DS remake; never realized that. It's also pretty cool to note that Owsen also voiced the opening line of Super Metroid.
3:58 Another Character who got casted by someone differently from the Anime was Kawasaki, after his voicer passed away prior to then.
Update: Kawasaki according recently to Behind the Voice Actors is now probably voiced by the same Person is King Dedede and Escargoon.
At least the recent Chef Kawasaki's VA was do his best as he can.
I can TOTALLY hear Chris Seavor's Conker characters in Slippy and Peppy.
You're TEARING ME APART Lyssa
It blew my mind when I found out that Rick May and Grant Goodeve were part of the StarFox actors. The same people who voiced the Soldier (Rick) and Engineer (Grant) from TF2!
Jay Green voiced Leon in SF64, and returned as well.
Correction on the Smash Bros. voice actor for Meta Knight: While some of Newsome's voice roles were from Seattle, he is actually based in Portland, Oregon (same with Sam A. Mowry and October Moore).
Man this is an old video but also came here to share that Mike Madeoy (voice actor for Falco in Star Fox Assault) also voiced Pvt. Bisenti from Halo: CE. Really cool stuff knowing he did some voice acting alongside David Scully again after CE.
2:07 Seto Kaiba
3:03 Cilan
3:37 2003 Leonardo
3:42 Andrew Rannells appeared in the Trey Parker and Matt Stone musical The Book of Mormon
More Nintendo voice acting videos! These are fantastic, thank you!!
Chef Kawasake was replaced because the original voice actor died, the original voice actor also did the english voice of E120-Gamma
I still find it mindblowing that Makiko Ohmoto voiced the entire cast of characters in Return to Dreamland and Triple Deluxe. This includes the cutesy, high-pitched Kirby and graceful, effeminate Queen Sectonia, but also the increasingly deep voiced Meta Knight, King Dedede and Magolor. I still don't know if they used voice alteration for those last three roles or if Makiko can naturally deepen her voice that much.
Wait, is that right? Dedede's generally voiced by Sakurai himself and Metaknight's usually played by his actor for the anime, do you have a source on that?
Makiko Ohmoto is also Viridi's Japanese voice in Kid Icarus Uprising and in Super Smash Bros 4.
Wait magolor has a voice-
Completely unrelated, considering it's third party, but this actress also played Sayaka Maizono in Danganronpa, in the Japanese version. Pretty impressive since
*SPOILER ALERT*
The first victim in the killing game became the only survivor in the World of Light
What a fantastic sequel to the first! These are just awesome, keep up the great work!
I love Kirby: Right Back At Ya, one of my favorite anime, but they couldn't have picked a more unfitting voice for Nightmare (NME)
Keep doing these please. They're really interesting and are on par with the original Did you Know Gaming.
Wait... so your telling me... that elder Pryce did lines for nightmare? That is f$&@ing hilarious
Ikue Ohtani also voiced Sachiko in Corpse Party and Hana in Ojamajo Doremi. And Kirbys voice actress in Brawl also voiced Ness. That is interesting, if you compare, how each of the characters say PK Flash. Ness says it in a pretty weird way, but Kirby says it perfectly.
Fun fact about some of the voice actors that voiced some of the Star Wolf members in Starfox 64 and Assault, both had a role to record for Team Fortress 2 ^_^
The voice of Kirby is also the same voice actress for Ness :)
And Lyndis.
I wonder who did link, all of his noises grunts n stuff.
It's like six degrees of separation with voice actors.
I love how Chris Seavor's Slippy voice sounds a little bit like a high pitched Conker
Skippy: Don't worry I'm here!
Falco: That's my biggest worry. XD
I just noticed how much Slippy's Melee voice sounds like the Fire Imps in Conker's Bad Fur Day.
I guess I know why that is now.
Why
5:49
You mentioned Dinosaur Planet. *cries* The game that should have been
Fun Fact:Ikue Ohtani is the voice of Applebloom in the Japanese dub of My Little Pony:Friendship Is Magic
Yes True
atsushi kisaichi is also the voice of aoba... I can never look at metaknight the same way again...
There is a Starfox 64 remake? How did I not know that!
May I make a suggestion? Borderlands. The voice actors in the game are awesome. You would be surprised of who they played before. Like Gaige and Kreig having voice actors who voiced together in Soul Eater.
Grant Goodeve (Wolf in Assault) is the voice of TF2's Engineer!
One of my favorite kirby character and smash character was voice by Masahiro Sakurai
By they way, Pikachu's voice actor had also made voice for many famous Japanese animation too.
did you also know that Christopher Seavor have voiced Conker in every single game he is in and that is:
1: Diddy Kong Racing
2: Conkers Bad Fur Day
3: Conker Live And Reloaded [Remake Of Conkers Bad Fur Day for the Xbox]
4: Project Spark
many people thought that it was an new voice actor for Conker in Project Spark because he sounded different in the Project Spark trailer, but I actually asked Christopher Seavor himself on Twitter and got an answer from him that he is the voice of Conker in this game too, the reason why Conker sounded a little different [not so much] is because Christopher Seavor is getting older of course the last time we saw Conker was back in 2005 that is 9 years ago of course Chris sounds different even if he tries to sound like Conker the years flies and he gets older, but at least it is still him as Conker and that is wonderful :D
Dex Manley is best Falco IMO.
Also, I find it funny how Hisao Egawa is both Falco and Muhammad Avdol (in Heritage for the Future), both being bird-based characters with firey attacks.
One mistake: Grant Goodeve played Peppy in Star Fox 64, not Jock Blaney, who played Wolf. Grant Goodeve, somewhat ironically, later played Wolf in Assault.
Got a source on that? I've seen Peppy and Wolf's 64 AND Assault actors get credited as each other constantly and people still aren't 100% sure of who's who.
Wait... FOR ALL THIS TIME JASON GRIFFITH DID THE VOICE OF CILAN AND I DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE AND THAT CILAN AND SONIC SOUND ALIKE?! *slaps myself in the face*
No mention of Wolf being played by two different TF2 voice actors?
"FIYA!!!" ,"KUM ON!" I love Japanese fox.
MISSHON CONPREE
sakurai voices kind deded??? i wonder if he also voices him in ssb brawl and 4
Yup!
yes he does.
Sakuri is king dedede jn brawl 4 and ultimate
You know what's really fucking cool?
My Dad and Dex are actually really great friends and worked at microsoft together. I had no idea he did so much voice acting.
i would like to hear a bit more voice clips between them but other than that it's still pretty awesome ^_^ and very interesting.
In the Kirby series a male character called chef Kawasaki was voiced by a female for the English version.
That's Maddie Blaustein, who mostly played male characters. She was transgender male-to-female, so her voice was still masculine sounding to some extent.
The announcer in Pokemon Stadium did the voice for Escargoon in Kirby Right Back At Ya.
Favorite voice acting crew for Starfox is most definately the Starfox Assault crew they had the most realistic ans portrayed a professional but still funny style. Loved it. Jim walker and them need to return!
5:50 Well, there was also Louise Ridgeway in Bad Fur Day.
Yes, other than her and Chris Marlow on the Great Mighty Poo, MOST characters in Bad Fur Day were voiced by Chris Seavor. ;]
Oh yeah, I forgot about Chris Marlow.
This was still an awesome video, Kirb!
*****
Hey, I love your videos!
***** Wait... This guy is Kirbopher? I had no idea!
I like Did you know gaming but I think did you know voice acting is become my favorite out the two series. Keep up the great work !
Rest In Space Rick May
"they're staring each other down!"
"what's the matter trainer?"
Funny, I remember reading so much stuff about Steve Malpass doing the voice of Fox in Melee, and every time I would listen to Fox in Melee (attack grunts.) I would think "he sounds nothing like him???????? But after watching this video I get it and feel like a dork........
Voice acting looks like a lot of fun.
You forget to mention the Victor's Pikachu Seiyuu Chika Sakamoto also voiced Agumon
Ikue Ohtani also voices Tony Tony Chopper from One Piece :D
Hmm I'd be interested in something done for various Capcom titles like Viewtiful Joe and Okami (both had jibberish but still had voice actors :L) and Phoenix Wright who most of it's cast up until the recent Layton vs Wright and Dual Destinies were voice by staff working for Capcom at the time, the trademark famous objection wasn't by a professional actor but it's grown on so many people :)
0:37 yes I’ve seen Go Getters out of the gate.
Yes I know what he sounds like.
*yes I regret ever listening to that*
-but it’s really not that bad after getting used to it & Detective Pikachu.-
Awesome! Absolutely love this series
Ohtani also voiced Tiki in Fire Emblem Awakening
The weird thing is that Charles Martinet wanted to do the voice for Link, but didn't because Miyamoto said he'll have no voice, yet he does have a voice.
unless BTVA is wrong right now or back then it says that peppy was voiced by rick may not jock blaney. He voiced wolf. Interestingly Rick may is the voice of the solider from team fortress 2
Dan Owsen didn't voice Rob 64 in the remake, he was only credit for the 'Good Luck' sample from SNES Star Fox.
You should do a Street Fighter one. Trivia can be Sakura and Makoto voice actress Brittney Lee Harvey and Jessica D Stone are best friends in real life and known each other since they were 5.
I didn't think Nintendo even knows what Fox McCloud is supposed to sound like.
E Gadd's voice actor in Luigi's Mansion is really cool in my opinion.
6:28 No Kirb, three did. Ja Green may have done only incidental roles and the narrator and isn't known for much else, but the very fact that he returned proves his dedication to the game.
"Ja Green"?
Vox Nihili Like I said, very little is known about him (he was credited as "J. Green" for 64 and "Ja Green" in 643D. Even David White called him Ja Green on Ethercast's "Meet the Voice Actor: The Soldier" video in saying that Green was the narrator (and that White himself was General Pepper) instead of Rick May.
Got a link?
Christopher Niosi Other than the Ethercast video, no. The comment has since been deleted but that was indeed what he said.
Even so, with West and Green being the only males to reprise their roles (with West being Fox), there wasn't much mystery left to decipher.
Vox Nihili I looked it up, but I'm a little confused. The ethercast video only reaffirms that Rick May was Wolf and Andross, but says nothing about Ja Green or David White.
I know you've talked about Pokémon already in these episodes, but I would love a whole episode on Pokemon.
They're bringing back the entire SF643D cast for Star Fox Zero.
Chris Seavor didn't voice ALL characters from Conker's Bad Fur Day. He only voiced the male characters, except for the Great Mighty Poo, who was voiced by someone else.
Did anyone else notice that the japanese air date for the first episode of the pokemon anime was April fools day 1997?
Love these, can't wait for the next one!
4:34 Oooooooh boi, here we go..
"FIYAH!!"
"COME ON!"
"TORYAH!"
"UAAAGH"
"MISHON COMPRETE!"
also Peppy Hare in Star Fox 64 also voices the Soldier in TF2
WTF I NEVER KNEW THAT! Mind blown!
Pikachu's first voice actor came 10 days before my birthday, whaaaaat. (11th April 1997)
man, 4kids really written itself into a history in which it cannot be remove, sigh
+KuroCartoonist Well, they're long gone now, and FUNimation is currently dubbing One Piece; hopefully SEGA will do the same for Sonic X, with the current cast, the entire Japanese musical score, and no unnecessary cuts/edits whatsoever.
+OldSchoolPokemonFan Little to no audience?!? Sonic is one of the most popular and recognizable gaming franchises out there; hell, the only reason the anime had high ratings was just because it's Sonic, and definitely *not* how the dub turned out.
+OldSchoolPokemonFan That's true with Chris, but most people who hate the show itself aren't fans of the Sonic franchise as a whole anyway. And while FUNimation is doing a proper dub of One Piece, there's still no way to watch Sonic X outside of illegally streaming/downloading the original Japanese version, or stomaching the garbage 4Kids churned out - that's the *real* problem.
I'm surprised you didn't bring up yourself when talking about the Pokemon anime XD
Well, here you go!: Kenji Nojima, who voiced Fox McCloud in the Japanese versions of Star Fox Assault and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, was the actor that I dubbed for Khoury (Kazunari) on my first episodes of Pokemon!
Christopher Niosi Kirb, you're the best.
Christopher Niosi Wait, you dubbed episodes of the Pokemon anime?
That is beyond cool.
Christopher Niosi...Wait- you did poke'mon? NO WAY!!!
Fox voice in ssb4 is also the same one from the N64
This series is awesome
Really enjoying these videos so far, Kirb. :)
I was wondering if you'd thought about tackling voice actors in the Ubisoft games. If not, I think it'd be a good undertaking as well, if you're interested.
Did you know?
Rick May was the voice of Peppy all along (he was not Wolf or Leon, but Andross remains correct)
www.behindthevoiceactors.com/Rick-May/#comment13205
Let the Soldier Hare parodies commence!
If that's the case...
"Do a barrel roll, maggots!"
Holy crap! Woof has the same voice as the Engineer from Team Fortress 2
It would be cool if Steve mal pass came back as fox
new Starfox would have a lot its Nintendo`s most talkative series
am i the only one that noticed that the pikachu picture is from brawl taunts.
Well, it's natural to be that way - Kirbopher (or, the very guy who hosts this channel and series) was one of the people behind the three Brawl Taunts animations, after all.
TouyaShiro Nekomata WAT
Christopher Wang You never knew? Hm...
CAPTAIN FALCON HAD A CARTOON why wasn't i told????
Wait, I heard somewhere saying that Sean Shemmel (sorry if I miss spelled it) actually voiced lucario once.
He did, in Pokemon Movie 8!
Christopher Niosi Sean Shemmel himself said on his twitter account that he's going to Voiced Lucario in the next Super Smash Bros game
Didn't Kirby's voice actress also do the voice of the final boss of Triple Deluxe?
Yeah, she did Queen sectonia.
This video is amazing!
Can you do some playstation 2 characters like naughty dog Insomniac games and sucker punch productions ( jak and daxter, ratchet and clank, sly cooper)
I do know that Fox's Japanese voice actor for Super Smash Bros Brawl was Kenji Nojima, the same person who did the Japanese voice for Lu Xun in Dynasty Warriors. On that note, I think we could probably make a DYKVA for the Warriors series, like Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, and Warriors Orochi.
He's also the first actor I dubbed for one of my characters on Pokemon! I just found the other day that he's "Wander" from Shadow of the Colossus.
I like Kenji a lot. I loved Lu Xun in Dynasty Warriors, and his singing is pretty dang good, I think.
Peppy was voiced by Rick May, not Jock Blaney.
+Emma Darkspear Also, Rick May voiced Andross and - more interestingly - is the current voice of the Soldier in TF2.
Dimitri: "LET'S DANCE!"
5:32 look at the ptereodactyl in the dinossaur planet logo. looks like Ridley, am I right?
ANDREW RANELLS FTW! I love him both in TBOM and as Noah Kaiba (oh hai, Kirbopher!) in Yu-Gi-Oh! (Even if his voice can get annoying in some parts)
I was hoping you'd do one on Starfox! :D
Slippy's eyes are staring into my soul...
Mike West is best Fox. That and his Japanese actor from Melee.
COME ON!
I thought kirby first spoke in kirby tilt and tumble or kirby 64
