When I was but a young lad, I drew up concept art for a poison dart frog Pokémon that I called “Toxicroak”. I was so proud of the “original” name and considered it my best work. My friend then proceeded to tell me the worst possible news…
@incognito_mode420 I have old sketchbooks, some of them are in fine condition. Just don't like throw them around and keep them on the floor. And included, I never really constantly re-did/ fix things in my art. I was a kid! I didnt care. There was no need to erase anything at all. The first try was what i stuck with. That's me personally however. In your own experiences that may happen- but however- sometimes things a differ for different people. Keep that in mind before just calling people out with out any reasonable suspension.
man seeing content like this makes me wish i was brave enough to just put down my own ideas on paper as a kid! for the longest time, my aim and what i thought being an artist was more the still life approach; so i would always draw what i saw, be it on the tv, paintings, or comic book covers and stuff! anyway, great work and love how you werent afraid to either lean in or pull away from the origin, but still being so aware of your intent all those years back! sysgem in its new incarnation is just so fun and genius!
I don't know if the Sysgem shiny was meant to do so but I like how the "Sun" turned from Orange (if anyone says that it's red or yellow, I'm slightly colorblind. Don't judge) into white. It reminds me of the life cycle of stars.
The stars on Sysgem could also symbolize fossils, I remember as a kid finding a rock with a tiny starfish fossil in it and that’s the first thing I thought of when I saw the stars on the rock. Kinda also reminds me of a geode with the gems inside of a rock that looks cut in half
Usenko's shifting color patterns is such a cool gimmick - they've done similar things with, like, alolan muk, and I'd love to see more stuff like that in vanilla pokemon
I found some new Fakemon artists fairly recently; I think you might have fun looking at their work; maybe you could invite them to the channel to help get them more attention. The Artsmith has put together quite a few Pokemon for his own fan region already, but Acember and Lullalee have barely started their own channels.
When I was a kid I came up with an evolution for Chatot, which had two heads that were connected like two eighth notes. It was called Parratune, which came from the words Parrot + Tune, which also sounded like a pair of tunes, referencing its two heads.
This video honestly makes me really happy. I've lost my old childhood fakemon Pokedexes (I made around 300-350 fakemons) but I've tried redrawing a few of them, I just can't remember them all. So seeing you get to finally recreate your childhood creatures is inspiring to me and I'm glad you got to experience that joy. Love you True! 💚💙💜
I used to draw pokemon as a child. I remember coming up with a wolf Pokémon called Fangber. A Pokémon that was a cross between a teddy bear and an insect called Fuzzbuzz and an alternate evolution for Wingull that was based on an Albatross called Wingale. Would love to see your own interpretations of these Ron.
I think a really cool idea for Falas/Igloom could be a weather change ability. Like if sunny day is active, it takes off the coat and you can see how sit's true skinny form
My personal favorite I made was a Pseudo-Legendary I came up with around Gen 4 times. It started off as a simple pure Water type fish with little spiky fire fins and the Flame Body ability and most of its base stat total going to Speed. That evolved into a slow bulky Magma Armor-ed fish encased in mostly solid molten rock (basically a cocoon middle stage like Salamence). Then the final stage Water/Fire type was a big tropical fish with long flowing ribbons of lava for fins, and a custom Lava Flow minor form changing ability (if you understand the technical side of the series, you know that protects from a lot of things that can suppress or steal an ability, making this fairly potent) that doubled its Speed in warm weather effects (mostly just sun) and doubled its Def in cool weather effects (basically all other types of weather change), its base stats in those two fields being lesser than that of its first and middle evolutions respectively without the boosts. It could only be caught in an isolated mountain hotspring cave that would require Surf alongside either Rock Climb or Waterfall to reach, since that's where the species goes to spawn while being a deap sea saltwater breed in its evolved forms. If it weren't obvious, I was really big on browsing bulbapedia and theory-crafting fleshed out pokedex details even that far back (their categories were literally The Flame Fish Pokemon->The Magma Fish Pokemon->The Lava Fish Pokemon). Wanted to make a whole ROM hack or RPG Maker game, but never followed through. By standards of other Pseudo-Legendaries, I actually intended/assumed it would only just be mediocre for a casual playthrough, but pretty flexible in a competitive format thanks to being weather reliant. ...Can't quite remember if or what names I gave them, though. I'm pretty bad with names in general, to the point it took me forever to memorize even my own middle name growing up. Also, pretty sure I've lost the drawings I did, and don't have access to the word document or whatever of its stats, so just got the memories now.
This kinda make me want to revisit my psudo line i made when i was younger. It started out as an hatchling still in its shell normal/dragon type. the shell had grass, water, and fire symbols. The second stage can be best described as a brown cyclizard, The final evo was a split 6 way. 3 wate/fire, 3 fire/grass. A bulky, balance, and pure offensive. For each. The offensive fire/grass was a spinosaur. The final evo depends which faction you follow the most. I also made the Evil team psudo a Ghost/normal version of them. That they achive by combining the two versons together.
Sysgem looks like a Glimmora Minior fusion. I like it. Igloom looks fun but I think it would look better if the hands were feline paws. The pose and eye design for Bearslash give it an interesting personality. Really looks a bit shocked to have spotted you, completely still but ready to run for it. Usenko is the type of design that I wish they would've gone with for Violet Paradoxes. Looking futuristic/hyper-modern without being robotic. Great job on these redesigns!
Oh god now I’m remembering my own childhood fakemon. At least I had a theme for mine which was zodiac (mostly because I thought the Capricorn water goat was a cool idea that needed a Pokémon) but my drawings sure left a lot to be desired
Sysgem has to be one of if not my favorite Pokémon you’ve ever made. It looks like a real Pokèmon that could be made by game freak, but has that spice that only someone like you can have. I just love it so much. Good job.
I love seeing you redesign old fakemon designs you came up with as a kid. Might be a good idea for fans to submit their own designs from when they were kids. I also had so many ripped off designs around Ruby and Sapphire!
15:00 The first thing that came to mind as you started to draw the outline wasnt pikachu ... but ling-ling from drawn together. Something about the shape and pose. To be fair, though, Ling-ling is just a pikachu parody.
Sysgem is probably one of my favorite concepts for a pokemon youve created, I can imagine that every one is slightly varied in its 'planets' and coloring
Sysgem is adorable and huge! ✨✨ Igloom is neat. I think it'd give great hug tbh Bearslash is very cool and I's totally catch if it was real Honestly I visualized Bearslash's color scheme as like Obstagoon the purple was a great choice Usenko is a delight, I love eletric types with bone or implied bone patterns their amazing
I, for one, absolutely loved this video!! It was so much fun seeing your old designs and really interesting seeing how you updated them to you current style and ability! Fantastic! Fingers crossed 🤞 for part two and beyond!! ❤
17:24 if you remove usenkos face and see the ears as eyes, you got yourself a whole new fakemon right there. What about a challenge where you take one part of other Pokémon and turn them into full fledge Pokémon? The tail of serviper, one of necrozmas crystals, etc?
4:39 As an experienced artist, I can tell you that Ron tried to draw a meteor flying forward through space, and got the idea to make the rock flat in his sketching process.
When I saw you start to draw a Glalie-like mouth for Igloom, I got realy excited. It seems like it would have been perfect as part of a relationship concept between the two species lines, since Snorunt is a teepee and Glalie is a mask.
I can’t help but notice how creative Ron gets with the Pokémon names. Im always blown away with the names he comes up with! I like Igloom. It pretty cool.
Great fakemon. Sysgem and Igloom are cool, Bearslash looks intimidating and Usenko is frickin' adorable. It's nice to see that you had such creativity to create all those mons back then, but it's even more awesome that you decide to perfect them once you have the skill to do so.
I remember as a kid, I made a bunch of Fakemon I thought would be cool to see in-game. I don't remember a... Good majority of them, honestly, except for an ice-type mouse that, in my original drawing, was a literal icecube with ears and a tail sticking out. There was even reference for the way water turns from ice, to water, to steam in its evolutionary line. It turned from an icecube, to a water droplet, to a... sun? for some reason? I guess I couldn't depict 'steam' easily so I went for a literal sun motif. It even went from Ice, to Water, to Fire. Why I went that route, I don't know for certain.
This video reminded me of when I redrew an old Fakemon. They were first drawn in 2009 on paper, just like all of these mons! They were a Rock/Fire type wyvern called Magmaragon. It was reworked for my Fakemon region as Magmasaya. (Named after a Nicaraguan volcano.) But when I started my reboot series, I ended up scrapping it. I would like to revisit it again since my artistic skill has grown so much! And I could definitely fit into a future region!
Really love keeping the original image in the bottom left. I know this is because these are ordinal creations but for those of us less familiar with all pokemon, it’d be a great fixture for all future redesign videos
As someone who loves hyperpop, Usenko is SO CUTE! I especially like it with yellow or pink on the head/back and I'm definitely adding it to my team in whatever universe it came to exist in (: Bearslash gave big Zangoose energy, but it was a nice design straying from that as well, i only wish you gave it a different name, even knowing the "bear-" is for beard, it's still weird to name a goat pokemon bear-anything. This made some surprisingly cute and cool designs, and i think it would be fun to visit the idea again!
For igloom I feel like the hidden ability weak armor would suit it sooo much better, thinking like the ice getting broken away off of it, or it being melted and getting faster since it doesn't have as much ice
I love the idea of Sysgem and Minior existing in the same spheres, kind of like the baby Pokémon huddle around the evolved Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet. The Pokédex says "If [Minior's] core stays exposed, it will soon die off," but maybe if they circle around Sysgem, they can feed off its electric energy to keep themselves alive. 💛
You're so creative Ron. Thanks for all the videos you make to watch when I wanna be cozy and play some Pokémon on the couch, under a blanket. You're awesome
I used to make fakemon that were knock offs of existing pokemon and your fakemon. I remember seeing your elecric firefly with a light bulb and then I basically took that idea and made it cute. I also made a knockoff flabebe that was literally flabebe by holding a star instead of a flower.
The way I immediately watch your videos when I see them drop is wild lol. I even like your videos before watching them just because I know it’ll be great content, also so I can ensure you continue your various series’ lol. They’re always awesome, and as a fellow NY artist myself, you continuously manage to give me creative inspiration. I’ve been ‘poke-scribed’ to you for years and I’m glad to be along to journey, bro! 🤞🏽💯
I find these super interesting; it makes me want to look through all my old sketches; I remember how proud I was making a new Pancham before it was actually made, then again, I wonder how much copying I made before I knew it. Hmm these are so cool. Part 2 would be nice thank you. Usenko. Is my favorite of this batch of pokemon you made. And Bear
@@froggy12koreangirl that would be a sight to see. The thought occurred to me one day, "I've been drawing fakemon since year 2000". I was a child & now I'm hoping to share my art on twitter very soon.
If you ever do a part 2 of this, you could actually take some of those “knock off” pokemon designs you mentioned and turn them into regional forms of the pokemon they were copying. It would be a funny way of lamp-shading these Pokémon’s rip-off status while also doing something creative with them.
If you've heard of a game and anime series called Digimon, have you ever thought about taking the Digimon creatures and redrawing them if they were made for the Pokémon franchise? I know both franchises are different in numerous ways, but the one thing they have in common is this: They have creatures that are based on certain things, creatures and more, they have different elemental powers and can "Evolve" in certain ways.
Sysgem's design at first reminded me of vintage clown masks (mostly because of the eyes and nose), then a carved Halloween pumpkin mixed with a carrot slice that has been cut out with a cookie cutter - With the final render it looks like very glossy and fancy pumpkin filling in a rock... I think I'm just hungry :'D Usenko also looks really great! I was unsure of whether making a unique Pokémon with a Pikachu shape would really work considering just how many Pikachu clones there are, but I like it more than the actual Pikachu. I wouldn't mind having one of those if I was a Pokémon trainer! :)
For Igloom, you could have the facets on the face be a little more resemblant of inuk forehead/chin tattoos as a gender difference. The design looks like a carved doll too which is really fitting :D
The original art of Usenko actually made me think of a ground type that uses its tail to drill through the earth and sneak up on unsuspecting prey/trainers
I am literally just 9 and you have inspired me to make actual fakemon with good concepts and I've also made a Canada based region called norvista so just thank you Ron
this is amazing! when you did your last looking through old Pokémon video a while back I wished you redesigned more than just on the thumbnail. please make a part 2!
All of these are amazing. And like you have this habit of bisecting designs? No shade, just an observation. And with Usenko you pulled it back and made it a pattern and it worked out sooo well. Great job translating these ideas from your childhood, I'm of the opinion that the raw feeling that goes into children's ideas or ideas you had as a kid are a wonderful inspiration and should be cultivated.
Looking back, I've created a lot of waifu Fakemon over the past four years. Some of my favorites are: Keteme: a Psychic type resembling a catgirl, its powers are enhanced by positive energy. Toxingya, a Water/Poison type whose design is a cross between a koi and a geisha, its beautiful looks betray its deadly toxic barbs. Tropigal, a Grass type whose design is a cross between a coconut and a hula dancer, its graceful movements can quell all anxiety. Mystifly, a Bug/Fairy type resembling a butterfly with gigantic colorful wings, with which it attracts mates. Reptilust, a Fire/Dark type resembling a humanoid lizard, probably the most blatantly sexualized Fakemon I've made.
This is kinda unrelated to the video but I'd love to see more concepts that flip normal Pokemon aspects on their head. One thing I've been thinking of for a bit is Evolutions making the Pokemon smaller. There's 7 frog Pokemon but hypothetically there's the shrinking frog - it's tadpole is huge compared to its actual size. Certain jellyfish are essentially immortal and so they can also grow and shrink overtime.

I like how sysgem's name could also be a play on the word syzygy, which is the nearly straight-line configuration of three celestial bodies
so why did you keep the name Bearslash? I mean he can slash with its hooves but it isn't a bear, its a goat!
cus its from beard and slash he says at 12:55@@alfonsolopesdelrio6927
FUN idea for an evolution of Sysgem: Stalaxy! From Stalactite and Galaxy.
Bearslash was the best glow up from the original, but Igloom was my overall fav, great concept and execution, id like it to be real

It would look like a nice evolution for a regional variant of Minior.

At first I thought that sysgem was small but then I look in the bottom right corner and then this is the first thing I said “THATS A BIG BOI” lol
I'm obsessed with usenko, it's so cute🥺I hope we'll get to see more of your designs as a kid
Usenko has got to be the cutest defibrillator I have EVER seen.
Oh man, I wish I still have my childhood Fakemon drawings. I think I did over 200 of them, but my works got destroyed by the flood.
I used to make fakemon that were knock offs of existing pokemon and your fakemon. I remember seeing your elecric firefly with a light bulb and then I basically took that idea and made it cute. I also made a knockoff flabebe that was literally flabebe by holding a star instead of a flower.
I mean your old Pokémon aren’t horrible lol
Better than I could do 😂
Better than I could do now, being 27 lol
@@Luanmm Lol
The way I immediately watch your videos when I see them drop is wild lol. I even like your videos before watching them just because I know it’ll be great content, also so I can ensure you continue your various series’ lol. They’re always awesome, and as a fellow NY artist myself, you continuously manage to give me creative inspiration. I’ve been ‘poke-scribed’ to you for years and I’m glad to be along to journey, bro! 🤞🏽💯
I like how Usenko was slowly changing colors. I would love to have that pokemon.
A pika clone with RGB lighting. ...Honestly, surprised the actual Pokemon series hasn't done that yet.
That last one was trippy AF. 😵💫
And Bear
I feel this. I swear I drew Luxray 4yrs before it was created. The difference was mine had spots instead of stripes on the legs😅
@@SEH_ARTGOLD oh man I wish I could see it and cheer on our younger selves, we were truly on to something!
@@froggy12koreangirl that would be a sight to see. The thought occurred to me one day, "I've been drawing fakemon since year 2000". I was a child & now I'm hoping to share my art on twitter very soon.
@@SEH_ARTGOLD really that’s great!- reminder (put a name/alias) On your art!
Sysgem is so cool! I love how you made the concept look more refined and practical. Great design!
I hope you make a part two!! I love seeing your childhood designs come to life and look like they stepped out of the actual game!
"This is literally just a realistic cicada!" lmao
YES,MAKE IT A SERIES.THIS IS SO GOOD!!!
Bearslash is a bit of an odd name for something not based on a bear.
You know, a knock off in Pokemon is just a regional form.
Okay seriously HOW DO YOU DO IT? Man I’m so jealous of your talent! Keep up the AMAZING work!
Dope video, i hope theres more! Another video series you could is redesign other peoples fakemon from when they were kids
This is such a nice concept and I love how you updated the designs. ❤
I think I'm just hungry :'D
Usenko also looks really great!
0:48 honestly best mon of the video
I am literally just 9 and you have inspired me to make actual fakemon with good concepts and I've also made a Canada based region called norvista so just thank you Ron
Love your fakemon, keep at it 👍
Your old designs are so charming=3 Love them and new ones too=3 Thank you for the great video=3
this is amazing! when you did your last looking through old Pokémon video a while back I wished you redesigned more than just on the thumbnail. please make a part 2!
you were much better at art as a kid than i was, pretty cool
I also gave everything shells as a kid. I even had an entire series in my own Pokemon with tons of mons with Slowbro-like shells on their back
All of these are amazing.
Dude this is awesome. I’d totally be done for a part 2+
I wonder what your past self would have thought of these redesigns.
Looking back, I've created a lot of waifu Fakemon over the past four years. Some of my favorites are:
Keteme: a Psychic type resembling a catgirl, its powers are enhanced by positive energy.
Oh man this was so fun, gonna have to go see if you ended up making that part 2!
