    Mercedes Cost of Ownership
    For years I've been told like everyone else that owning a Mercedes is very expensive and impractical. Today I take cover the cost of my first 4 months of ownership and tell you exactly what I've spent on maintaining my 2014 Mercedes C300.

    I drive a 2012 GLK and I get the maintenance done by AAA. Oil change, once a year, is about $120, mostly because it has a larger oil capacity than other cars. I get the transmission fluid changed for just over $200 bucks and had my front pads replaced and rotors turned for about $400 bucks. No issues.

    I own a 2002 SLK 320 with 140K on the odometer. The only item replaced has been the water pump and normal maintenance performed. I also had the roof panel repainted due to clear coat failure. Not bad for a 20 year old vehicle.

    Don’t buy these cars if you’re type of a guy that waits for a tow truck on a side of a road for someone to come and change your flat tire. Unless of course you’re loaded to the gills…
    There are some of us who aren’t afraid to tackle a brake job - changing rotors and pads - doing a simple oil change. Changing a busted light bulb. Simple diagnosis etc etc
    Yes there are repairs that requires specialized computers etc etc. If the repairs cost more than what the car is worth, by all means junk it and get another.
    These cars are nothing but tools.
    Don’t get attached to them like a wife!
    Heck sometimes the wife runs away but your ride is righteous by your side…

    If you are buying / thinking of buying an (any) older "premium" car, then you definitely need to be happy with the costs to repair it; just like people, cars don't get better as they grow older !! Seals, belts, brakes, tires, all of these things wear; and the vehicle regular maintenance becomes really important as the car gets older. Having said that, owning and driving an older car like a Mercedes is a pleasure that makes up for the costs of ownership, you just have to be prepared to pay those costs. As my M.B. dealer service advisor says, yes you pay a little extra, but the work done is all up to Mercedes standards and requirements.
    Oh BTW, I have a 2009 SLK300, just coming up to 93,000 kilometers, runs like a dream thanks to M.B. servicing since it was new.

    In Australia, Mercedes service guide is 25,000kms (15,000miles) or 12 months, which ever is first. So it is more expensive than you think.
    Most people here do 10,000 miles so the milage service is redundant.

  • @forgednotcast612
    @forgednotcast612 2 роки тому +3

    10,000 miles is nothing. The question is what happens after 50 to 100k or 5 years later?
    Then see the repair costs for water pump or other part failures.

    • @KseRBanshee
      @KseRBanshee 2 роки тому +1

      For German car I would buy a very low mileage or very high mileage. I would avoid between 130k-180k km because most expensive stuff would be broken and replaced by then. Got a CLK350 at 190k km, drove for 4 years/89000km and spent $0 on repair except wear and tear item. Oil change every 15000km and it runs like new, maybe even better than my C300 because of the V6 and RWD and it makes some really nice noise when I delete the muffler. M272 engine is a beast and I hope it lasts a lot longer. Just make sure to change OEM parts instead of aftermarket like the ex-owner and you know you will have around double the lifetime of the part you replace. Quality is key!

      Most definitely, it's very good to know the history of the vehicle you are looking at as well. Even better if you know the previous owner personally.

      Hmm, my 2015 fully loaded ML63 still runs like new, even battery is

      I have experienced with both BMW and Mercedes. Mercedes is far more reliable even though BMW is more engaging to drive. I tend to speed a lot in a BMW, whereas I would just cruise and chill in my Mercedes. I have no experience with Audi reliability but my mechanic said don’t even try to get one lol. No idea about Porsche but that will be my next car and if it is reliable as you said then I’m down 😍. I always bring my car to my Indy shop and in my experience over the year, the maintenance is about the same with my Honda Accord V6 a few years back. Oil change is more expensive but it last 3 times Japanese cars so you do the math. My oil change is only $120 Liqui-moly oil and I am happy with that
