Why would a 8 year old be walking unattended? Oh yeah, I remember, we ran the streets too, unattended at that age. We were all over the place in a small city, but still a city. I remember several times cars pulling up ( always men) trying to get me to get in the car. I refused. When I told my mom, she just said not to get in the cars. All three of us continued to roam around wherever we wanted. Lucky to be alive today really.

Its a big problem that parents now let their kids walk all over them n schools are afraid to discipline kids. My daughter walked out of my house one day cause we had a fight. She was 11. I finally found her at the park. I made sure I yelled and scared the shiat out of her or else she would've done it again. Respect for elders. She learned that day.

Besides of course remember plenty of people considered elders who I would not leave my children alone with! Or want my children to do as they say!! Children can also feel when something is off, or blatantly see it! Thier parents should also respect thier children!! Kills me how many children were abused/killed because children were expected to respect thier elders!!!

@@CapricornD1301 By the time you call the police the little girl could be dead. She almost was. And confronting him could have simply meant making him aware you see him and asking him what's the deal. I would have done even more than that. And if you think that its dumbass to put your life in danger to save a little girl well we are operating from different value systems. And lastly anyone who would pick on a child is a profound coward and so is anyone who would be afraid to intervene on the remote chance he might get hurt. Believe me you confront him he will not do much. He was a weasel.

We were allowed to play out unsupervised because our parents warned us over and over - so we knew to keep ourselves safe. My parents loved me as much as any parents could As a result we had freer more adventurous, less coddled childhoods. Also the average decent adult was willing to intervene and put a stop to anything that seemed dodgy regarding children- every child's safety was an adult's business. Very few children were ever abducted or killed and the law here in the UK was especially hard on child murderers - when they wound up in prison the other prisoners despised them and treated them like pariahs. It seems more recently that the law went soft on child killers. Sadly psychopaths like Alcala often learn a kind of superficial charm which could take in a more naive child.
