Hank, When you fill up the fuel filters your supposed to fill the outer ring first not the center,the fuel come in the outer ring then comes up through the center. Terry ,Oklahoma

R685ST tractor converted into a dump. Engine is a ENDT675 Maxidyne 237 HP. Transmission is a TRXL-107 Six speed. Most likely the rears are 4.17 ratio.

Back in 1981, myself and two others flew to Southern Oregon and picked up three 1977 Mack dump trucks just like that one an drove them back to Alaska. They were the same 🤮ugly red orange color. Roughest riding road truck I've ever drove.

You joke about dip stick lengths, but I read once that a French truck manufacturer, forced to make trucks for the Nazi's in WWII, secretly either shortened the dipstick tube, or lengthened the dipstick. The result was that when the stick showed full, it was actually just barely sufficient. Thus a low reading was 'not enough'. The result was that the engines failed early but not until they were out in the field. Brilliant!

Bring it to West Virginia I'll take it, those Macks will start every time. I drove a single axle in the 90's that had a 250 in it during cold-weather it would start on the first crank while the Cummins trucks refuse to start. Slightly illegal driving that on the highway
Back in the day, I carried a tennis ball with two x cut small holes in it that I could put a long blow nozzle through to push fuel to purge the system. Those old Mack's had a small filler neck on the diesel tank and a standard tennis ball was just the right size. Used it when drivers would run the truck out of fuel to push fuel to the pump. Now that you have your new air compressor, this trick could speed things up.

I used to drive a 1980 twin stick Mack for Cherry Hill construction in 1995 through 98. I loved those twin sticks they were so much fun. Seeing this sure brings back memories. My truck had the same color interior i think they all did for the most part. I can say this be very glad it wasn't raining when all that soot and nest came out of the exhaust.. i sooted a friend one day🤣

2-stick 6-speed. Long stick is Lo, Rev and Direct. That leaves you 5 reverse speeds. Probably 300 Plus and E9 is the BIG V-8. Look at the tag on the block. Drove bunches of R-models and DM cabs with this setup. Reverse and Lo are real close side to side but Reverse has a LONG throw compared to Lo. Got to REALLY watch what's going on when easing a mixer close to something bustable because you might get it in the wrong direction. Got used to that shifter in dumpers before the mixer deal started. Tough old trucks. BLESSINGS!

Didn't rattle or nothing..usually they do but not this time..I suggest if you guys are going to be going off into the woods get protection grab some first aid kits and some snake antivenom it's expensive but it will save you in case your nowhere near help like a hospital also a gun would be good if you're near where bears or mountain lions live

Took me a minute… but I finally got Wiley's "6:30" joke 🤣!
That transmission is one of the most misunderstood ones out there. Low range is for first gear only provide a super-low hole gear. It's not designed to make it a 10-speed transmission. These old trucks are are Timeless and that Mack engine was one of the most reliable ones out there at that time. The E6 is a 350 the E9 is a 500 V 8. In 77 could have been a 237 or 300. I always thought that saying was a single stack Mack with a window in the back
237 Mack engines did not have a turbo so that's probably a 300hp Mack

Mac always had some weird Maxi pots but whenever I had to look my international home I backed off the slack adjuster took needlenose vice grips with a cigarette pack and ran for the day or lump it home

It's probably an e6, pretty sure e7 didn't come out till a few years after that truck. They made e6 from 237 to I think 350 hp. All e6 are 672 ci. E9 is a V8 that's 998ci

I do, and have several gallons. Transmission fluid and brake fluid as well.
And any time I go to rescue a rig…I always bring 3 or 4 of them.
I aint go no lubrication!!!! no oil no water no problem, if your a relative of Hanks and come down to visit be careful if he invites you out for a walk in the bush.

Probably a 237. A E-9 is a V-8 not a 6 banger. Drove a 300 and it was great. A lot of drivers told me the 2 stickers were a waste of arm movement
