Thank you buddy that’s very kind of you to say 👍🤓👍
Hahahaha...
Love it Mel.. watch'in in the parking lot before I go in to work & can't stop laughing..!!
Thanks for the smiles & sharing your everyday adventures.. Stay clean, stay safe & stay healthy.. Keep'em coming!!
🤪👍
Cheers mate have a good day 🤓👍
You have had me in tears with laughter!!! ;') absolutely brilliant :-)
Fantastic 😂🤣😂👍
Worth a try chap. Did make me chuckle when it popped and you jumped 🚐☕️☕️👍🏼🏴
Quality, still chuckling to myself, stay safe Mel 👍
Thank you and you 👍🤓👍
Yeah now you're doing well mate the interior of your van looks the business especially with that wood in the roof especially with varnished as well very good doing a cracking job keep up the good work mate stay safe
Thank Ian that’s really appreciated 👍🤓👍
Gutted for you Mel :( Have just started a van build after years of caravanning. We have never used a TV. Just used my 10 inch tablet or the 15 inch laptop. Freeview is now available as a free download as is itv hub. Portable devices such as a laptop or tablet are also more flexible. We can watch TV from anywhere in the van or even outside. Love your channel mate so keep doing what your doing
Thank you that’s really appreciated good luck with your build 👍🤓👍
Hi Mel, sorry to hear about your TV trouble. We are just building a sprinter and wanted a TV. We found a 21.5" 12v TV on the aldi website and it works very, I have mine wired into my fuse box. Just thought you might like to have a look on there. Same price as you paid. £120. Keep up with the great videos👍🏻
Thank you 👍😂👍
Loving it Mel, keep ER lit. ✌️
Cheers mate 👍🤓👍
Did such when I was twelve, making my parents go mad😂
Was worth a try tho, thanks for all the laughter here🤣
I've seen you at B&Q, buying a new one with 12 volt did ja?
Im such a fan, could watch this forever. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you really appreciate your encouragement and support 👍🤓👍
Brilliant mel 👍 made me giggle 🤣 keep up the good work 👌🏴
Thank you 👍🤓👍🤣😂
Your polarities were switched, i did the same thing, my thin wires started to smoke n burn so i disconnected quick and was about to give up then i figured i hooked it up incorrectly and checked the board again and saw that i misunderstood the labeling and so i correctly wired and boom, working like magic!
Ha ha ha, I'm so glad I found you Mel, You make van conversion so much more fun ...lol
That’s good to know 👍😁👍
Keep it simple ...Keep it safe 😂🤣
Love this video 👍
That’s brilliant I kind of forgot my own thing there didn’t I lol 😂 🤣😂👍
I have a 12v tv you can have fella as I’m only a few miles up the road from you
Thank you that’s really nice of you 👍🤓👍
When the electrical shops open go and look at TVs which have an external power supply ( like a lap top) the power pack will tell you the output so you need to find one that transforms down to 12-13v dc you can then just make up a 12v lead to the socket on the back of the TV. You are not going to be breaking any seals and it's then universal so can either run on mains or battery. Good videos mate really enjoy them.
Thank you that’s a great idea 👍🤓👍
Oh dear. Shouldn't laugh Mel but I did have a wee giggle when I heard that click.
Love the vids mate 👍
Thank you 👍😂👍
I think technically, you can modify almost all TVs to work at 12Vdc (keep in mind that the car's voltage is usually over 14Vdc), you simply need to find the output location of the internal power supply and neutralize it and replace it with a voltage regulator.
If the TV consumes more than 12 volts, you can use a simple voltage boost circuit (direct current to direct current).
It's a waste to throw a screen that has good components for other purposes, such as using the lighting. Just remove the LCD...
Another thing, if you isolate the speakers from the TV (use an external audio system), you should not worry about the thickness of the wires, unless it's a huge screen or a particularly powerful backlight (and even then the light can be reduced).
Have a good health.
Enjoyable to watching you!
I was just about to say the same 😂👍
I did the same thing to a dad player, it had a 12v wall wart. I double checked the polarity, really important when hacking dc devices. I only had a 9v power supply to hand, I thought it'll be fine, eorst that can happen is not enough voltage and it won't power up. Wrong, fail, I "let the smoke out", skip fodder. But its true a lot of 240v consumer electrics, especially AV are dc 12, 9, 6, 5, 3v. Its all good fun. I power up little 12v PA systems for off grid electro gigs with mobility scooter batteries. Boot sale speakers and 12 amplifier pcbs off ebay for the price of a four pack of lager.
Mel, You are a true entertainer! Keep up the good work! :)
Thank you that’s really kind of you to say I’ll definitely do my best 👍😊👍
Hey Mel, Some 240V TV's have a transformer box in the power lead the same as lots of Monitors, they are easily adapted, Gadget John has a video showing how he converted his rechargeable razor.
Well good for him lol 😂 👍
Got my 12v TV from A supermarket special. Got to love Aldi
Thank you All have a look 👍🤓👍
Please tell me you checked the polarity of the pins on the socket, and didn't depend on the colours on your drone plug?
Where was you haha 😂 👍
That's what happened
What so it only blew koz they was back to.front !???
Looks like a 12 volt one is on the shopping list.
I was hoping it would work, for ya mate
Maybe lol 😂
I bought a manta branded 12v tv with dvd off ebay about 3 years ago still works fine, and they are still available for around £120.
Cheers 🍻
Love it ,love it Mel 😂😂😂👍🇬🇧🇬🇧👏👏👏
Thank you 😊
Hi Mel. I had a similar TV/DVD and cut the wire between the plug that enters the TV and just before the voltage dropper that's on the lead provided. I connected this to 12v supply and it worked for years. I even sold it with the van and it might still be working.
It's worth a try so get it out of the bin
THAT's how you should have done it. The 12V plug was a decoy.
All good fun 😂👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld I'm looking forward to seeing you taking it from the bin and trying it again in your next video. Keep trying lol
Lol magic Mel.
Haha 😂
That was so funny!
Sorry... It reminded me of when I was a Kid, messing around with record players, tape machines, disco lights.... I would always say to my mate... It better work after all of this?
Sadly nine times out of ten we would end up blowing everything up! :-0) Thanks for the Laugh!
Haha some things you never grow out of I was the same 😂🤣😂👍
Bugger, lesson learned but if you don't try you'll never know lol. Great video
Cheers Chris all good fun 😂🤣😅
good morning Mel i use a 12v telly made by Cello, on ebay they are around £120 they come for home use and the power supply takes 230v and reduces it down to 12v and the connector is widely available to use via a 12v supply in the van either cigar lighter or direct connection hope this help's mark.
Cheers mark 👍🤓👍
That's the one.. The 16" model draws the least amps..👍

Hi Mel best laid plans and that ;!!!Try AC DC TV for 12volt TV on eBay he is our go to guy for us boaty folk. ..... Cheers Mel stay safe ..Dave
Thank Dave 👍
I know it’s too late now cos you fried it but did it have an external transformer on the power lead? If the output of that was 12v DC you could have cut that off and not gone inside the TV.
A voltage regulator would have been a good idea plus a check that it wasn’t 12v AC. Still gotta hand it too you for plugging it in while the cable was live. You should change your middle name to Danger 🤩👍🏼
All good fun mate I survived and so did the van lol 😂 🤣😂
Cracking video. Still laughing now.
Good 😂🤣😂👍
A lot of small TV can be converter to 12v, some actually run on 19v so a DC-DC converter for £5 will sort this out. I have a new LG 24" TV in my van runny happily on 12v batter at half the price of a dedicated 12v tv
Loved that one mel first thing that made me laugh today
You’re absolutely welcome 😂🤣😂👍
Ouch, was brave of you to try that. I gave up on the idea of a 12v tv and got a usb powered smart projector (Nebula) and a cheap roll down blind to use as a screen. With a 50" display It's like having my own private cinema in the van and best of all the projector has its own battery so I can use it in my tent when I wild camp up mountains :)
Sounds good to me 👍🤓👍
How's the resolution on that ? do you get HD ?
@@RemusKingOfRome It's 720p, but it's not really noticeable, suppose it depends how close you get to the screen. Even when I've used it to project on the side of my tent at about 90 inches it's still been decent. Also I think you can still get the original which was SD, though there are lots of other makes that claim to be full HD, some are cheaper but lack the built in battery. It works well for Netflix , UA-cam & Amazon over 4G and you can also download films to it to watch later.
Precisely what I will be doing. I already use a projector in the house. I don't own a tv and haven't had one for about 10 years now.
I think it best to try and find forum dealing in tv repairs, there might be some wiring diagrams that could be followed or give a clue. That two pin could mean anything, for instance if bridged perhaps the mains lead now because a 12volt input, who knows.
I really don’t know 😂😂😅
You made my day, mate!
That’s brilliant 😂🤣👍
🤣🤣Did you block that fellas with the 12v handy hints
Made me chuckle that vid😂
Lol no I didn’t block anyone glad you found it entertaining 🤓👍
😳 I didn’t feel good about that one from the start Mel, glad you’re ok and didn’t burn the van down, what would we watch then! 😉
Hahaha good point 👍😂👍💥
Hi Mel,,, I have a Cello 12v TV in my van from e bay £120 new & is a really good buy ✔
I’m trying to get one 👍🤓😂👍
HAHAHAHA luv it Mel
Cheers mate 😂👍
That's something i would do probably with the same result
Hi Mel I know its bad but I did chortle when you put the TV in the bin. Keep the content comming and am I the only one that recognised Greg's UA-cam Video on your TV screen in the Thumb nail?
Well done 👍 you are the first to comment I don’t think even Greg has spotted it lol 😂 🤣😂👍
By connecting that TV directly to 12 volts, you have opened the gate and let the smoke out.... That TV is now smoke free, well done Mel xx
You could be rite 😂🤣😂💥
My 2 cents is. Don't throw TV away. It may be just a blown fuse inside the tv. 🙂
Years ago I modified a printer to run off the car's 12V socket. I bought an adaptor though. It had 12VDC IN and it had voltages ranging from 3Vdc-24V dc OUT depending on the application plus five or six types of plugs to suit different brands.
Thanks I’ll have to check 😂🤣😂👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld Have a look for a fuse in the 12v plug head. There should be one in there.
Hi, my Finnish wife says you sound like Monty Python's "My Brain Hurts" I told her it's a normal London accent she thought it was amusing. Good video by the way :)
Hahaha that’s a first thank you for making my day 😂🤓👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld Welcome mate ;)
😂omg mel same as me. When you slammed door could imagine you with lip out sitting on bed. I run my through inverter uses nothing even fan on inverter dosnt come on. So funny. So many tubers would av deleted that mint channel
Thank you Mark 👍🤓👍
Some you win some you lose good try MEL .🤣😂🤣😂👍🇬🇧🍺🤘
Cheers 🍻
Converting a mains power tv to 12v is doable but you have to connect the wires to the right place otherwise you get fried tv. That bracket on the back of the tv is the bracket you have to get FT or it moves and loosens itself. Best of luck with the next tv Mel.
Thank you that’s probably rite on the money 👍😂👍
Looks like you've been tango,d mel on the the video title lol, mate why dont you get a pocket projector for about £35 they are mint you can stream your phone to it and use a DVD player if need be ,mine works a treat 👍🍻
Ohh 😮 I didn’t know about them 🤓👍
Anyone know what the kind of connector the drone battery uses is called?
Haha, brilliant.
Thank you 👍🤓👍
I’m out your van is looking good inside keep up the good work
Thank you 👍🤓👍
And the silver lining to this cloud of smoke😳 is you can go out and buy a 12v telly 😜. Ya win some ya lose some but it would of been a great idea if it had worked.
Yep 👍
oh dear Mel! That amazon 12v TV seems the dogs dangley things...... I'm not a great fan of "Schadenfreude", but I have to admit I chuckled a bit..... oh, and reflected on how many times I've done that sort of thing !! 😁
It’s all good fun and beaks up the boredom 😂👍
Hey Mel, this is so like something I'd do.... usually when I'm Bored!! Cool Beanz...
So yes you can change 240v to 12v... But Mel Can't... Quality
Cheers 🍻 😂🤣👍
That's was comical 😂
😂😂😂 i was so exited about my 26" desktop and it blew up like yours. I melted the board but in your case i think it's only the fuse. Take it out and try fix it :)
Oh I trued that it’s blown up well truly had it 👍🤓👍
A new board will only cost about £15 Mel
Hi Mel, Darren (Urban Motorhome) has a Cello 12v TV he recommended. X
Thank you I’ll have a look 👀 😂👍🍻
È stato bello vedere te provare!
Don’t throw it away, there’s probably a fuse on the pcb which would blow immediately.. was the polarity correct? Worth a try my friend.
It’s had it I’m afraid 😟 😂🤣😂💥
Worth trying but I am surprised at how expensive that TV was. I bought a "mains" 19.5 inch TV with a DVD player for my camper from Kogan for just over $100AUS and it was actually 12v with an external mains adapter so I can run it off the mains or the 12v battery. What you tried is OK but you need to know a bit more about circuitry before delving in.
I think I’ll just leave the back on the next one 😂🤣👍
Have a look and see if you've just blown the fuse in the 12v plug head (assuming that there is one there). If you've got the polarity wrong then one of the fuses should have popped before any of the components on the TV.
I did check it’s toast 💥😂🤣😂
@@BigVanSmallWorld :-(
Always plug into the power source last to avoid shorting out things.
Oh that’s why it went bang where was you when I needed you 😂😂👍
Please double check your connection if the polarity is correct before plugging it in.
A little late for that I’m afraid it’s in the bin 👍😂👍
Hi Mel, I bought a rechargeable Cello 12v TV about 3 years ago and it's been great. I love knowing that when I use it in the evening, it's not taking any power from my leisure battery. I can charge it from a from my solar panels via a 12v socket or from 220vac when on hook up. On start up you get a choice of screen brightness to choose from: Low= 10-11 hours usage, Medium= 8-9 hours or High= 5-6 hours. My only complaint would be the inbuilt speakers however my getaround is connecting the headphone socket on the TV to my rechargeable bluetooth/aux input speaker.
"If this is something that might interest you"😂 I can try and find the amazon Web link for the unit I bought.
What a shame that your little experiment didn't work, I feel your pain.
Take care and continue staying safe. 🤙
Good morning thank you for your positive feedback and I have just learned about cello TVs I’ll definitely have a look at them thanks again for you support and joining members I really appreciate it 👍🤓👍
I have tv 17 inch...I try switch on with 12v but is turn around 1 half minutes than close..what the problem the current not enought..?
Never mind Mel just think how much money you have saved people by teaching them from your mistakes! Legend
That’s why I’m here 😂👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld I thought about trying it Mel but think I will give it a miss now. 😀
Hahaha that made me jump nothing ventured nothing gained. It was worth a try.
Lol sorry about that 😂🤣😂👍
Have you been watching my vids, I did more or less the experiment but I had smoke as well. It turned out that the TV was actually 9.5v or it could have been 10.5 anyway you still need one of them adaptors to down the volts from 12 to ??????
Hello no I’ve not seen your videos I’ll go take a look in a mo 👍🤓👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld Sorry Mel I wasn't plugging our channel, the comment was supposed to be bit of humour suggesting you have copied me blowing up the Tv.
That ending funny as f*** , just put it back together and I send it back for an exchange, tell them it didn’t work. Under warranty, I know someone who knows someone who knows someone who always does stuff like that🙄😎
I couldn’t do that 😂🤣😂💥
U can buy 240v tvs that are actually 12v they are the ones that normally come with a power brick cable (with barrel jack) and will say wat volts they run at
Thank you I’ll have a look 👍🤓👍
Might be 12v out ? Not in!! I have seen TV's with 12v in so shop around you will find one. Good luck, Mel.
Cheers 🍻
Hi pal,🙈🙈 look I'm so sorry this didnt work out for you, people have mention 'what doughnut has told u that' and I bet he hasn't tried it? I can truly tell you it worked for me! I would prove it but I had my van stolen in january.I wouldn't of mentioned it otherwise, as people have mentioned u probably had reverse polarity that caused the issue. Cant apologise enough, just feel I had to comment so u know my intentions were there, all the best.
No worries mate all good fun at the end of the day 👍🤓👍
That made me jump, but was funny.
Haha got ya 💥😂👍
Hi Mel,it can be done on most TV's.Are you sure that you got the polarity correct?
It’s had it now 😂🤣😂
Id be putting that bk together and taking it back Mel
No lol 😂
Mel’s Van World your to honest lol
Cello who are part of the Ferguson TV company do 12v TVs on eBay. Keep a look at at regular % off deals. I got a 22in smart TV for £119 minus 10%. Sorry it went bang on you, its a bit sickening when things go wrong. Also August aerials off Amazon are amazing.
Cheers for that 👍🍻
Hi Mel
You should take your shoes and socks off and stand in a bucket of water while you’re doing that ,
Adds more to the excitement .
Been there worn the T-shirt .
Take care and Stay safe buddy Literally .
Haha I would have but my bucket got holes in it 😂👍🍻💥
as someone mentioned Mel, Aldi do a 12v dvd combo tv for £120 online
Thank you I’ll have a look 👍🤓👍
I'm so sorry, but I did laugh when the TV sparked.
It did make me jump 😂👍
Cello TVs, some of theirs are 12v, and only 3A! And I’ve heard good reports, I’m happy with my iPad at the moment but may invest in a cello tv in the future
Same as you 👍🤓👍
Cello have ok reviews but I'll stick to lead star from garrant, 130 off amazon, only 12" screen but cheap as chips. Cello requires you buy additional 12v adapter I think.
Yes but the cello has TVs running 12v up to a 32”, they also do a solar tv which includes its own batteries
I think the lesson you have taught everybody is don't believe everything you watch on youtube.
But i think you had polarity wrong way round, with those batteries some have swapped polarity to the shape but the colours stay the same though.
Its possible just connecting the battery with the wrong polarity damaged before connecting 12v.
At least you tried.
I think you could be rite 😂🤣😂👍
Hiya Mel...
l was gonna ask another one of my dumb questions, but this time you beat me to it.
(misery loves company)
😁
Thank you 😂🤣😂👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld
You might want to donate the TV to some local handyman/repair guy: he could probably make use of the parts (or maybe even fix it)
Just a thought.
LouisRossmann.com in NYC does that with all things Apple (Macs & iPhones), and now has 1M followers on UA-cam. Check him out.
Mel, If its going to run off 12vdc there would be a connector somewhere in the power supply section only for this..... It would be a high current connector as the LED display would need heaps of current to operate..Not that pissy little one you connected to. Also the 12 volts would need to be converted to the various voltages required to operate the TV. That would require inverters, bucking and boosting types to provide the voltages which would be +15v and - 15 volts and a hefty 5 volts to run the LCD display and the comp logic circuits inside the unit for all the digital controls....That little connector would not provide the currents for all this......
That’s what I was thinking but there’s so many videos on how to do this I thought I’d give it a go 😂👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld 30 year a tech.... should have asked me....
Did you get the polarity round the wrong way. Lol you make me giggle like. All the best mate.
I don’t know 🤷♂️ 😂🤣😂👍💥
RIP TV😢
Well Mel, there’s not much for me to say after reading all the comments.
At least it was the tv that went pop and not you.
So stay safe and stay well.
Ash 🏴
Cheers ash and you mate 🤓👍
Oh man, gutted, but i did burst into laughter as it popped. I normally, when looking at electronics, look for the incoming power cable, if it runs off 12v there would normally be a transformer on the 240v supply either in the tv or on the plug/PSU, then measure the voltage using a fluke mm. There is a few reasons a 12v supply will be present in a tv, so be careful whacking a supply onto one. It needs placed on the 12V off the transformer.
I just dumped it lol 😂
I think my grin is slowly turning into a .............. 😆🤣
Haha that’s good glad you fond it entertaining 😂👍
I am just away to try this out.. 😂 hopefully mine dont go bang
No don’t do it lol 😂
There’s a Chuckle brother looking for a new Chuckle brother. Fancy a career change ? Great video , sad but funny.
I’m all good on my own thanks 😂🤣😂👍
Mel’s Van World Absolutely 🙂
August do a small 12v telly supposedly very good bout 120 quid on amazon
Think brett "stealth campervan man" has one
Thank you 😊
Mel, you should have gone straight to buy a 12v TV, but we all live and learn 😨 stay safe and healthy 😀🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Thank you and you 👍
Geeez Mel the only true way to convert to DCV is to plug the TV into the Mains and read the DC voltage after the Bridge rectifier ,,, (The 4 diodes that are stacked after the transformer ) anyhow then if its 12 volts on your DC volt meter then remove the bridge rectifier so as to not have any back voltage then connect the 12 volt with the correct polarity ,,
Im a ham radio Tech class rain operator ,,,,, I could have done it for you but it would have cost to much to ship it to Australia ,,,, easier to buy a 12 volt one from the start
OR find a TV that has one of the black Walmart transformers on it ,, they have 12 vdc input ,
Rob
Cheers rob I’ll just get a 12v next time 👍😂👍
You had me laughing in USA.
Thank you that’s good to know
One thing I'd never do is take electrical advise from a Facebooker or UA-camr, always check with a pro and it could save you a load of cash... ;)
Too many "Experts" online!! 😂😂

Great video, anyway I'm of to watch abit of tv 😆
Oi that’s not funny lol 😂 😂😂🤣
Mel so funny :) was your tv the same make as the one they emailed you about ?
hi Mel. Bad luck with the TV. It must be possible to run on 12v, otherwise why have a 12v connector on the pcb board. Maybe you should have carried out another step. Good video.
Thank you all good fun 👍🤣😂👍
