One of the only bands in history that sounded better live than they did on vinyl. Steve Perry's voice, just hit a different tone live and it just 100% worked.
Journey is so amazing, steve perry is an amazing singer. Definitely check out their whole catalog he hits notes you Definitely weren't expecting him to
Two other songs from this same album that I highly recommend are "Why Can't This Night Go on Forever," which ended up being quite prophetic as this Raised on Radio tour turned out to be the last tour of Journey with Steve Perry, and the other tune is "Girl Can't Help it" -- the 'official live version' where Neal Schon (guitar) and Randy Jackson (bass) have a brief, yet amazing, jam session.
I love this song of theirs. I am so glad I was born during the time of all this great music...and hair. Can't believe I use to have hair like Steve's back in the day.
@Bryan Simmons not the same, just like Arnel is not the same! Steve Perry is why people listen to Journey not Dean or Arnel! I have yet to hear anyone comment on UA-cam about Arnel or Dean singing anything! It's not the same thing!
@@karlschmitt6359 No one can replicate another person perfectly. However Deen was every bit as good as Perry. If people only listen to Journey to hear Stave Perry, why has Arnel been with Journey LONGER than Perry was? Why are they still performing to packed houses without Steve P?
@Bryan Simmons I never said Arnel is doing a good job or Dean doesn't sing well, but I grew up with Journey from the first album to Raised On Radio and when Steve joined that was when they were at their best! I also believe Greg Rolie should've stayed because I enjoyed his voice too! The best Journey lineup, to me, is Steve Perry, Neil Schon, Steve Smith, Ross Valory, and Greg Rolie/Jonathan Cain(I like them equally)
@Bryan Simmons Dean's awesome! And love Arnel and the fact he's keeping the music alive introducing it to the younger generation..But Steve..my my my he has a soulful, unique sound that makes him stand out🥰
Your fun , with great reactions . Steve Perry is humble about his talent and rockstar status. His voice is legendary, he says it's ok .#peaceandstaywild
He's trying to convince himself that he'll be alright without her, but still holding out hope that "Someday baby, maybe your heart will be mine." When Steve is singing, "Dododododo", in the studio version, it is an instrument, but Steve sings it in the live version. I think that is what the smile between Neal and him was about.
Let's talk about it, I think this is Steve Perry's best studio vocal and one of the bands best songs. Shout out to Randy Jackson on bass, some of you might recognize Randy from the early years of American Idol. I feel ya dawg.
Hello peg, how're you doing? Your comments caught my attention and that is why I am reaching out to you. Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you! It's nice meeting you here.
This Was The " RAISED ON RADIO " Tour , Where Mr, Randy Jackson Of American Idol Played The Bass Guitar The Entire Tour Which Added A Touch Of Soul In The Mix !
The one Journey song everyone sleeps on is “Ask The Lonely”🔥🔥from the album Frontiers. It was not released as a single I believe because it was in a movie soundtrack Visionquest.
That is Randy Jackson of American Idol fame on bass guitar... I saw that tour in 1986. The same night the New York Mets beat the Red Sox in game 6 of the World Series. New Jersey holla!
What a lot of people don't know is that it was Journey who first started with the lights (strobing etc) in their live performances as well as the jumbo screens that they formed into a separate business that provided it to all other preformers like Michael Jackson etc... they were/are truly multi talented!!!
I have been to many many concerts in my 68 years seen Journey two times my two favorite band and best concerts is Journey and Pink Floyd. At Journey people up and dancing the whole time. Great memories.
Always love hearing Steve live but for this one, the studio version is better. The live tempo is faster. Neal Schon's guitar solo to close the song out is just AMAZING!! The studio version has a smoother slow jam vibe that's just perfect and the bass playing is more pronounced than in the live.
I wore this song out when it came out, was around the time my first love left and took my heart with her. Took me a year to get back to me, but I was never whole.
Neal Schon was Santana’s guitar player when he was a teenager before joining journey. I was @ their “Raised on Radio” tour w/ my mother when I was a teen. I’m 46 now!!! Journey was her favorite band. SHE WAS SO IN LOVE W/STEVE PERRY! I miss you mom…😢 R.I.P. until we meet again!!!
Hello Laurie, how're you doing? Your comments caught my attention and that is why I am reaching out to you. Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you! It's nice meeting you here.
Neal Schon is the guitar player. He dropped out of high school to play in Santana. Randy Jackson is the bass player on this video. He was later a judge on American Idol.
If im not mistaken, this was taken from Journey's last album together before they'd broke up in 1987. Guitarist Neal Schon and Keyboardist Jonathan Cain would go on to form the group Bad English and would have a couple of big hits including one of Asia's favorites in 'When I See You Smile'.
Great review! I love this song. Steve Perry is awesome of course. Neal on fire with the guitar. Jon Cain with the blazing keys and back ground vocals…Randy Jackson in bass…smoking…but what about his bass singing at the end! So good!
Plz check out Journey mother father live its truly mind blowing. Steve singing Straight From the Heart on that song because it was personal for him. It's a mind-blowing performance but it will show you exactly how talented that man is. Steve Perry is one of the greatest vocalist
One of my FAVORITES!!!! Outstanding live compilation! What a BEAUTIFUL NIGHT that must have been. I saw Journey in this tour at the Cap Center Md. in 1986, my senior year of High School. The stage they had for this performance was magical. (Side-note: Fleetwood Mac used the same same light set for their tour right after) : ) Word..., you know that is Randy Jackson, right? lol.
Such a great band, Steve is so good. I think this concert was from 1986 from their Raised On Radio album. Check out their "Only The Young" hit from 1985's Vision Quest Motion Picture Soundtrack. From his solo career, check out "You Better Wait." I really like that one. Their famous guitarist, Neal Schon, after Journey split up, went to join the band Bad English with John Waite circa 1989 and did one of their hits "When I See You Smile." You might want to do Journey's "Can't Tame The Lion" from their 1996 Trial By Fire album and from their Frontiers album "Chain Reaction."
Great great song love it! Asia you have to listen to Mother Father from this 81 live concert its a Steve Perry Gem I think one of his best for sure please check it out!!

Neal (guitarist) started the band after playing with Santana touring from age 17-25 ish. Neal Schon was 15 when first playing with Santana. He is self taught and in interviews he seems to have a guitar with him.
