MESHUGGAH is:
Jens Kidman - Vocals
Fredrik Thordendal - Guitars
Tomas Haake - Drums
Mårten Hagström - Guitars
Dick Lövgren - Bass
Lyrics:
Nostrum
Jealous vengeful fabrication
Halo-crowned invention
Sacred universal lie
Artificial divine
Great archaic obsoletum
A prevarication
Deceitfully contrived
Synthesized fictitious
Dreamed up by remote prototypes
Opiate for the yearning mass
Administered applied
Three letter word for monster
Empty promises of healing
Profit aptly buried in the lies
An industry rapt with avarice
Medicating blind
Its acolytes
Useless panacea
Imaginary cure-all
To you we cry and supplicate
Into your hell we fall
Blind belief in their eyes
Forever atoning, credulously waiting
Gazing to the skies

I was not ready enough
SHUUGAHH
holy shit, I finally "got" the groove. this is without a doubt going to be there best album. as amazing as they have been, they have somehow managed to not just improve but do so exponentially.
brutal these guys are kings noone can touch them its another level big fan destroy erase improve
i swear they need to make a meshuggah rollercoaster or a virtual one ill ride that shit all day and jam out to meshuggah
the solos on this record that ive heard are my favorite since chaosphere!!
Badass. Plays a bit on a classic if not cliche genre theme, taking it almost to existencial angst. But not quite. Soul tearing riffs none the less. A good listen.
This song is ghosting HEAVEN if you listen to it; ghosting HELL if you're trying to play it.
Não. Conhecia virei fã. Que guitarras. Poderosas meu!!!
THIS IS TOO BRUTAL
Pretty damn awesome birthday present ! Thanks ! :)
Oooooooh this is so good!!!!...... Thrashy, jazzy swing and the vocals are on another level........ fuckin hell, Meshuggah!.... Fuckin hell!
Imagine having a vr on while swinging on a swing set watching this
This not the actual album quality. Its a fucking UA-cam video, CHRIST!
It's great but what's the point of 360 in a lyric video?
Got em
Makes little sense, but ok.
The artwork is 360° mate
right in the face, as always.
YEAH! (As I spastically bounce around my yard flipping off my neighbors staring at me)
THIS SONG IS SO FUCKING BRUTAL I ENDED UP GETTING WASTED AT 9 IN THE MORNING
The first line drops so fucking hard
sounds like every Meshuggah song
You mean awesome? You are so correct!
hakkenarsk yeah :-P
If I had a time machine, I would set it for Oct 7th 2016
holy shit
why isn't this on spotify? :0
too scary for spotify
276 people have died from vomiting after hitting the dislike button
anyone know other bands simmilar to meshuggah?
But does it djent? Yes this does
I wondered why this was so jiddery until I realised it's a 360 video
Still heavy... \m/ but I'm having a hard time dancing to this...
just need to reamp the whole song through your Randall and put it in a mix ;P then try to dance! ja!
You might be better off with Dancers To A Discordant System =P
true... no stuff for beginners in dancing ;)
Oh shit it's Ola
Ha if Ola England can't dance to Mashuggah then I guess God is dead.
I wish all of their songs would last forever. They need to do another concept album like Catch.
Meeee toooooo. "I" and "Catch 33" is some of my favorite stuff by them.
you guys have heard Special Defects, right?
No way you haven't BuT just in case, that's another Catch 33 concept
Yes please!
Honestly, that's their best form in my opinion. I mean, look at that new Dream Theater. Holy fuck.
fuck dream theater
2:02 THAT FUCKING RIFF HOLY FUCK
YES
A classic Djentlemen riff
YES2
Mungasaurus Bravo no
hell yeah
Where was this when I was taking psychedelics often??
Fun side note - One night while tripping balls my friend and I listened Chaosphere, towards the end of the album the CD started skipping, we were so far gone and it fit so well will the rhythmic nature of the band we didn't notice til someone sober (friend's older brother) walked in and asked us wtf we were doing. If it weren't for him, who knows, I still might be lost in that CD.
are you sure it wasn't just the end of elastic?
That was my question as well ;)
If that is the track that drones on for a bit then yea, it was... but it was skipping during that part so it just looped itself til we were snapped out of it. I still to this day don't know the track listing for that album, always listened to the whole album as one song.
Yeah, that's the end of the last song on the album. I had the repeating part at the end of elastic as my ringtone back when flip phones were big. appropriate for school / work, and it's still meshuggah!
I had a feeling this metal thing was going to get all acid slithery. I bet the original album art would look bad ass slitherin around on some acid and how much those random beat slams and bends would slam shit all over the place out of your mind
I kept thinking how creepy it would be if that husk woke up and started following you around the screen with his eyes...
i thought exactly the same. Or that it opened its eyes in the solo
Oh SHIT that is a missed oppertunity. I'd love that way more than this 360 thing.
Hedge Knight tentacle porn?
@@genaroguerrero9228pp
Haaaaaaa don’t say that 😅
Damn it's like Haake went into this thinking, "Hmmm, just in case my legacy wasn't already cemented..."
The drumming after the solo though
A whole tour in one sitting, impressive! /,,/
CHUCK NORRIS CANT EVEN OUT HAAKE, HAAKE..
Totally agree
the solo after the solo
that part is actually just a variation on the intro. not that that makes it any easier...
Oh fucking yes... you already know this will be covered.....
Was actually scrolling through the comments expecting your cover announcement :D
Waiting for it !!
oh boy oh boy oh boy
do it nic, do it
Cover it on drums
Neighbor's baby started crying. This seems like a proper response.
Has anyone else had this or a similar experience with Meshuggah?
I love Meshuggah. I can't get enough Meshuggah. But the first time I heard their music, I didn't like it, years passed and I eventually warmed up to some of their music while disliking their other music. But now I love their entire discography. Once they released Born In Dissonance, I didn't like it at first, but now I love it, and now I listen to Nostrum and am not quite fond of it, but given this trend, I expect to love it eventually. I have no idea what it is, but once I actually do warm up to a track, I am utterly in love.
I am curious how common it is for people to take time to warm up to Meshuggah's music.
I've had a similar experience! I listen to the songs multiple times then I'm like "oh shit, ok, I love you."
Yes, similar for me. I wasn't impressed on the first listen with about 87.6% of their music.
Same dude I just did not comprehend what people saw in meshuggah when I first heard them. But once I started really listening to all of their material I just fell in love and they've been my favorite band for the last 4 years The intense swirling rhythmic maelstrom of atmosphere they create in their songs is just unparalleled. They're a very niche band and a very aquired taste for sure. I fucking hated koloss for the longest time but after I gave it a serious listen I discovered there's actually a lot of throwbacks to their early albums. Especially on songs like behind the sun, where they explore more melodic guitar parts/ sounds. I just feel that overall, violent sleep is much more cohesive of an album, it just flows together so well, the title track, into ivory tower, into stifled, into nostrum for me is one of the best things meshuggah has probably ever written, especially that blade runner Esque melodic guitar outro on stifled fading right into nostrum. Gives me chills everytime
Yes the same for their first few albums, but their last 2 have been crap I believe. They are trending backwards now
Same for me, but then I got into Gojira and Devin Townsend came back and I was able to handle/appreciate Meshuggah, Gojira and DT help warm me up, I'd recommend them as a guide to enjoy Meshuggah cause they're easier to get into
Haake is smart. Instead of doing something brutal with the feet (kick) he's doing a TON up top with his hands. Very tasty, very well done.
So damn good!
hey babe
You better take notes
Oh hey Misha! So weird running into you here!
Still gay
It's ya boi
THAT SOLO . MY GOD
kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!
lol so accurate
chromatic!
Thordendal is an absolute monster
Indeed
*FUUUUUUCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!! My Goddddddddddd!!!!!! Perfection! Et's on earth? Demons? Angels? Sobrenatural!*
Mathematically sound and clinically insane Vikings....... does that work?
manan dedhia Sureee!!!
Been working since the 80's boi. that's how long Meshuggah's been in the game.
†NST†NTU'S PR†MATUS it's none of our business. This is contemporary "WOW! signal"
2:02 - 2:52 still remains one of the best riffs i've ever heard in my 10+ years of being a metal head.
This is basically what every Vildhjarta song sounds like
it's unreal how insanely heavy this part is.
That octave chord riff at 0:37 on sounds like angels blasting huge horns to end the world
This song is so heavy it's going to create 10,000 more djent bands. Every one of those bands right now is like..."oh shit, we gotta step it up...thanks dad."
Listen Humanitys last breath "Detestor"
No
Crescendo: This album was recorded live in the studio. Not much to copy and paste. It's by far their most organically produced piece so far.
lmao right
+Crescendo that's a BROAD generalisation, majority of the bands that get labeled "djent" don't even do that, there's only a handful of bands that do that and most of them aren't even well known. It's become super trendy to hate on djent.
It has to be raw to be this fresh. Just wow
Hey! That's my Nun you're talking about!
What. The. Meshugging. Fuck. ? Unbelievable. Unbelievable.
Meshuggah: One of the best metal bands in the world today!
yea they are great again. Obzen and up was not my cup of tea. I found thoughs albums dull. just my personal opinion
They are the only ones capable of creating a new sound. Proof here, this is a new point of musical awesomeness. I really thought metal was dead, but with this kind of songs, finally there is hope.
I think you spelled “IS” wrong. You spelled it...”one of” Just thought I’d bring that to your attention
Nine people must've slipped and broken their thumbs.
Probably them are suffering a concussion now.
From headbanging
***** That is probably the dumbest comment I have heard. Vildhjarta do not have the skills and brains to write something like this.
+Chae H vildhjarta look up to meshuggah.. meshuggah are the master vildhjarta the students
The troll is a masterless student.
nostrum? YESstrum.
Fredrik Thordendal continues to be the god of guitar solos
No.
Yes.
A BIG YES! The Guy is a master!!!
Your statement is subjective, thus empirically false.
nerd
His voice DEFINITELY got harsher
yeah im not a fan
im a fan
Well, supposedly everything on this album was recorded live with little to no postprocessing. Which means his vocals are as real this time around as it gets, not enhanced nor enlarged by additional audio effects.
Michał Zbrzeźniak yup, it's very rough sounding which is cool in that it makes it more aggressive in a way. but it's just harsh to listen to. My favorite vocals from Jens was on Obzen.
his vocals are probably very similar - it's just they used a fucktonne of chorus effect on them on obzen / nothing to make them sound more "soft" timbre-wise, if that makes sense
This reminds me a bit of Catch 33, don't know why, seems more experimental.
I agree
For me it feels more like "swarm"
swarm + marrow :D
I totally heard the shed type low-ass growl
Same
I personally couldn't really feel it in Born In Dissonance but in this song, the drums just sound so "human." They really made the good choice going the live route with this album. Tomas is just fucking pummelling the snare toward the end of the song and it's a noticeable difference. I can't remember if in any interviews he mentioned weather or not they were mixing any samples in because this sounds like the real deal, all natural tones.
This is fucking amazing but for some reason it's laggy as shit for me. The sound is there which is what's important but still.
Are you using Chrome? I think 360 videos are broken in new chrome versions on some videocards (at least on mine). It plays flawlessly in Edge though.
I am. Can't really be bothered to go out my way to watch it in 360 though.
Same with me, so I youtube to mp3ed it.
Omg!! this track is so badass on so many levels . Wish i could stay a while and comment more but i have to start picking up the pieces of my blown mind and get back to work. Fuck!
This has the perfect guitar tone, whatever it was that they were lacking before (and it wasn't much) they have found this time round.
Amps, not sims.
Uhhhhh theyve ALWAYS had perfect guitar tones
Honestly James, their tone sucked on pretty much everything. Real amps > simulators.
James Peterson Well then in this case its better than perfect :)
Oliver Salathiel Uhhhhhhh clearly you never listened to Chaosphere then if you're saying "everything" man. That has the best guitar sound of nearly any metal album ever tbh imo
That outro brings tears to my eyes. When Jens screams "skies" and that chord hits accompanied by the creepy guitar sounds in the background, it's like you're taking your last breaths and looking towards the sky as the world collapses below you and you fall into the core of the earth and burst into flames. Basically it's the perfect doomsday soundtrack.
Shits deep bro!
I fucking knoooww!! That ending gets me every time from "skiiiies' onward. They have this capacity for endings, I feel the same way about 'Straws' conclusion. Those guitars will bring tears to your eyes. Phew, best band ever!
Jup
This and Monstrocity has absolutely sick solos
Band number one in the whole world. Still amazing after all this years. Thanks for this masterpiece. Never disappointed by Meshuggah.
My ribs just got crushed for some reason please help
no.
That's supposed to happen. Suck it up.
Shhhhhhhh .... it's working ;)
ALL HAIL TO KING OF EVERYTHING AND NOTHING....FREDRIK THORDENDAL!!!!!
I don't think the word filth even comes close to cutting it with this.... Ugh (shudders with a mighty gurn)
perhaps "alien swarm gutter muck" better describes it. and i'm looking forward to october 7th.
and a new toska lp, while we're at it.
gurn lmao best word ever!
I've been smiling listening to this song and now my jaw hurts due to awesomess.
It's beautiful :') *cries mathematically*
Can someone please count the snare hits?
42
I got 5
Lost count at about 130, now my head just hurts.
infinite.
420^420
The guitar tone at 0:38 onward is fucking gargantuan, just pure savagery!
I kind of want this song played at my funeral so people would literally shit themselves thinking that my corpse is somehow summoning some evil deity to come fuck the world up.
lyrics are behind me.. can't turn around I'm on the toilet.. but nice song!
the riff beginning at 02:01 is just amazing. the riff of the year, by far the best.
You should have seem the smile on my face the first time I heard that riff.
@@smokejc Yeah.. when i heard that riff i knew they had taken their own genre/sound to another level that those that follow wont be able to replicate
If there was a diagram showing hierarchy of bands, Meshuggah would surely be at the top of the triangle, apex predator! considering the bands they have influenced the fact they have been doing this since the 80s! there is other bands i love, but Meshuggah are Godly!
Their fans number over 9000 for sure....
The best thing of all is that they acutally pull this song off live! Very impressed by that! No one else like these guy, they are ferocious live! I definately want to see them live again some time again! You will not be disappointed.
Wow, I love it. Sounds like Destroy Erase Improve on a triple shot of espresso.
I would say it sounds more like Chaosphere!
....on a triple shot of espresso ;)
Patrik
To me, this track is more like DEI, but Born In Dissonance was more like Chaosphere. But what the heck, we're just talking opinions anyways. Totally agree with the espresso thing though ;p
+TheBadSpoon That's actually exactly what I was thinking! But yes, opinions. :)
So taking all the lyrics into consideration... Is the 3 letter word "God'?
that's what I was thinking, we might both be wrong though
Pog.
man
That was my first thought
i have spent the past 2 and a half days thinking about this very line....... somebody help me!!!!!!!!!!
HELP. I'M TRAPPED IN A PIT OF MECHANICAL SNAKES
Props to Nuclear Blast for pumping the fuck out of this album tho.
Fredrik's guitar solo is pure organized insanity gold
Now that gets me wondering what the heck are they gonna do on their 9th album, if 8th sounds *that* mad?
Going back to 'softer' like Gojira. Hard to get more intense than this, even for gods.
Knowing Meshuggah, they'll somehow go harder.
That was always one thing about Meshuggah, they actually got heavier as time went on. Certainly after DEI
They will find a way. They might calm down for a bit.... but then they will do unheard things again, just like this one. :)
They'll become a slam band. It the only way to get heavier.
Nick Kapp I don't think any band is heavier than Meshuggah. Maybe more "brutal" (more guttural vocals etc.) but none make me feel the same way
I liked this video after 30 seconds. Some sick drumming in this song, dang.
dat key change at 4:41 my god
I am crying... this is a pure perfection! Can't wait to see them in Belfast!!!!! My favourite band for years and it won't change! I feel that this album is going to beat Koloss! Oh jesus I still feel the goosebumps...
Calm down....
@@davidrussell9290 Really necessary comments 5 years later
@@BAVBAVBAV you're here too, aren't ya? It was only one comment, so you would say "comments". Singular. One.
this 360° thingy is fu°°ing brilliant :D
Recorded live, eh? Sweet.
riff at 2:02 = god
second half of solo = satan
Maybe it was intentional. Whats the answer to the preceeding lyric riddle after all lmao
Setting a high bar with this one. Now come on ye clowns, show me what you got ! lol
Sick song but what was the point of the 360 video, it seemed kinda redundant.
Nuclear Blast's decision, I'm sure
its fucking sick
true. why are we able to turn our necks, it's redundant
dragonaut That's not really a good comparison. We turn our necks to look at other things that may require our attention, however this video is a lyric video where the point of it is to display the lyrics to the song. Instead we're able to turn away from the lyrics to look at a blown up image of the cover art which we've already seen in numerous other videos.
Granted the chain/tentacle things wrapping around the camera is a nice effect, however it could've been done the same or even better if the video had been animated, which would have also allowed the lyrics to stay in focus the whole time.
the 360 doesn't even work for me
New level shit right here.
No strum.
All meCHUGgah!
2016, what a great time to be alive in Metal!
Considering the lyrics, can this be the new atheist's anthem please? \m/
o god damn god damn god damn god damn god damn god damn god damn. yes yes yes yes yes yes
Tried to headband on this, now I have a neck haake...
This is awesomeness quadrupled and E`d. It's the new '..n justice for all" we've all been waiting for.
This song is so Epic! Every second of it is so Brilliant!
a wet me pants a bit during the solo,
OH MY FUCK 2:02
OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that fucking solo at 2:53 to 3:45 has got to be the most sickest and most heaviest shit ive ever heard in my damn life bro that shit is sick man
Race has nothing to do with music. What matters is that you actually enjoy the song itself and that's more than enough ahah. Dude you gotta listen to the entire album if you have the chance, it's too fucking good.
i have the album bro
Jagger Mabry That's what I'm talking about! My copy should arrive soon
Unfortunately metal music has been stereotyped as white music and not universal. Good you can appreciate that. Would be nice to see black guys playing music like this.
i like how united us fans are on liking this shit. amazing
"We made a 360 video so you can fully appriciate how awful the artwork is, no need to thank"
Album art rules though
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah,. Sexiest tune
either my headphone's volume is too high or this song is too heavy.
A bit of both I reckon
no srsly, i think this is approaching death magnetic levels of volume. so ridiculously loud.
But at least it doesn't distort
My nan's last words R.I.P.
If you don't like the song, watch Haake's drum playthrough. You will see the song in a different light, trust me.
