    I recently moved to a new apartment and started a new hobby of keeping cacti and other succulents. It’s a very small apartment with not much space for a lot of plants, so I also bought a lot of small ones that will hopefully get bigger as I also get bigger homes with more space in the future. They’ll sort of grow with me, if I can keep them alive that is..... I do have one larger, mature Melocactus that I just couldn’t keep from buying though haha

    Yeah, I think buying puppies is an interesting way of following the cactus growth and is better than sowing seeds. Three months ago I sowed many gymnocalycium variegated seeds and I confess you I'm getting stressed! They simply grow too slowly. The bigger ones are less than 3mm. I'm afraid that a fungus infestation may kill them all before I can remove them from the high humidity container.

      Sowing seeds are kinda tricky and risky. You need to have patience when growing them since they grow super slow on the first 6-12 months. There were also times that some seeds from sellers would not grow. This is why I stop buying seeds from sellers, and started producing my own seeds.
      By the way, you could try spraying it with fungicide if you see a fungus, and immediately remove the affected seedlings. Usually, I start to give my seedlings a few hours of morning sunlight after around 3 months or when the spines shows. I start with one hour filtered sunlight, then slowly increasing it. And as they grow, I try to lessen the humidity in the container by opening it slowly. I find that the sooner you open the container and exposed them to morning filtered sunlight the less likely they will get fungus and die. Don’t worry after they reach 1 year old they will start to grow fast, especially if you’re in a tropical country.

      @@theplantprinceph Thank you for your detailed answer. I started being interested in cactus last year and initially I intended to grow Gymnocalycium Mihanovichii variegated only. But now my focus is changing to Astrophytum genus, so I found your channel. Thanks

      Hello, I don’t have any haworthia. But I would love to take care of them in the future. Probably in the future I’ll buy some. Taiwan have some nice breeds of Haworthia. You should check rennyshaworthia on IG and in UA-cam. She has some tips about haworthia care.

    Hello! I just followed your video regarding making sukkulent soil and I have question. I live in Eurpe and I really have no idea what sterilized soilless medium good be. I know what sterilized is, but do you stillte it yourself? I have never heart that here. And then „soilless medium“. For me I looks exactly like soil. Is it possible to describe or explain it a little bit. You know other countries other products. So I am looking for something comparable… sorry for this question in one of your newest videos🙏

    • @theplantprinceph
      @theplantprinceph  11 місяців тому

      Sorry, sterilized soilless medium is just a brand of potting mix available in our country. It’s just a sterile organic mix probably composed of compost, and other organic soil amendments. You could use any available potting mix in your are.

    I have a question Plant Prince! How do I prolong the flower of a cactus before it wilt, or how do I take care the flower after pollination and make sure that it will produce seeds

    • @theplantprinceph
      @theplantprinceph  Рік тому +2

      Hello,
      You can not prolong or extend the duration of a cactus flower. Usually cactus flower last only for a week, other genud such as Astrophytum may even close up after just a single day.
      As long as you have covered the stigma of the flower with a compatible pollen it will produce seeds. You don’t have to do anything special, just continue doing your normal cactus routine care.
      I hope this answers your questions.
