I can't believe that you understood any of this! His entire routine and the funniest thing about him is that he only speaks in Coloquialisms and UK sayings. I'm impressed that you laughed when you did 😄😘
I'm from Bolton and have met peter and Phoenix night ( st Gregory's club) was filmed near my house. He's the biggest comedian in the uk by far probably the world.
Bargepole - a pole around ten feet long used to guide barges up canals. (A barge is a small boat used for carrying cargo and/or passengers.) An equivalent saying in the US would be, "I wouldn't touch it with a cattle-prod".
I am surprised you got some of this and I think you did well to understand a lot of the jokes as Peter Kay’s humour is based on a lot of Northern English colloquialisms, behaviours and mannerisms that we recognise and laugh at in ourselves but others maybe wouldn’t necessarily recognise in other countries plus with his accent and also he talks very quickly. . A lot of his jokes if you haven’t seen him before are often repeated throughout and are peppered throughout his general routine so you will hear them laughing and you will probably think what are they laughing at but part of it is because it’s a sort of understood joke that he has already repeated half a dozen shows before that the audience recognise. He has been around for years. I can remember being in Spain with my sons who were 11 and 14 with the kids laughing hysterically at Peter Kay on a screen outside a pub, and the eldest is 32 this year so it shows how old some of his shows are. .
This is filmed in his home town in a small venue (I used to live in Bolton 10 years ago). His kid went to the nursery of the school my son was in for a few years - saw him turn up in a Rolls Royce one day which was weird. Also the same school that Ian McKellen (Gandalf) went to... btw - a bargepole is a long pole that was used by the driver to push a barge (a long transport boat along canals in the UK prior to the 20th century, towed by horses but the pole was for adjustments left and right). It's the same as the 10' pole he mentions after.
You have to watch An audience with Billy Connolly that's comedy gold Peter Kay was voted britians 2nd best comedian ever Billy was number 1 absolutely amazing..
A barge pole is literally that. It is a long pole used on a barge to keep it from drifting to close to the shore if you were navigating a canal or river. You use it to push off against objects at a distance so its used in metaphor as a way of saying as a way to emphasise to keep your distance from someone. Edit: Also Netto is a ridiculously cheap discount supermarket selling knock off branded and self branded products at stupidly low prices and Quavers are a corn/maize based snack a bit similar to cheese puffs but they're curled.
He's a very common comedian as in he talks mostly about all the regional specific things lower income families do and say and has a classic strong Bolton accent. He was a working class security guard at a major arena (the one that got bombed during the Ariana gig) for a long time and then boom! hit it big and ended up doing a massive tour called 'the tour that doesn't tour tour' with all 20 shows selling out and all done at the same Manchester arena. ....GARLIC BREAD!
Just to let you know at 3:05, the woman on the left is Peter's mother, and the woman in the middle is his Nan :) I always find the jokes funnier seeing his Nans reactions to Peter talking about her
This is him doing a show in his home town, Bolton. My dad's home town too. Some of the references (Green Lane, Warburtons' Bakery) are very Bolton-specific. He has a strong Bolton accent as well
Each town has a slightly diff Lancashire accent and he is from Bolton. If you just take Bolton Bury Ramsbottom Bacup Burnley some are more broader accents than others. They are only about ten to twenty miles apart. My mums favourite sayings were if someone came five miles south of Ramsbottom, it's an overcoat colder here 😉 They would never say cancer they would mouth it in a sentence. Read orbits in local paper over breakfast on a Sunday oh so and so died you know the one with the blonde hair 😂 You have the most contagious laugh and I enjoy your reactions. You should react to Dave Allen on religion or teaching the time etc old but he is a great story teller of a comedian.

A bargepole is a long pole used on.... well a barge really.
Canal barges probably aren't that common in the USA.
Thanks a ton for explaining bud
Bargepole - a pole around ten feet long used to guide barges up canals. (A barge is a small boat used for carrying cargo and/or passengers.) An equivalent saying in the US would be, "I wouldn't touch it with a cattle-prod".
A BARGE is a boat that sails on canals, the barge pole is an extended type of an oar to help push of the sides of the canal
Only found this channel a few day ago. Absolutely love the content
why have i only just discovered this channel, thank you youtube algorithm i guess. subscribed!!
Love your laugh, so genuine x
I can remember being in Spain with my sons who were 11 and 14 with the kids laughing hysterically at Peter Kay on a screen outside a pub, and the eldest is 32 this year so it shows how old some of his shows are. .
I'm from Leigh next to his town Bolton , we use the word " fot " meaning " have to " like I've got fot go on a diet. Weird but that's us.
I've never seen you before, but I will be watching your blog in the future, you're very good.
Im from bolton. Keep up the good work guys. Been following you for ages
Love your reactions much love from the great uk 🤙🤙
We got Aldi too. It's everywhere. It's the new netto. In 90's they used to sell can of beans for like 8p lol.
You have to watch An audience with Billy Connolly that's comedy gold Peter Kay was voted britians 2nd best comedian ever Billy was number 1 absolutely amazing..
Super surprised you understand his thick Bolton accent, fair play
A barge pole is literally that. It is a long pole used on a barge to keep it from drifting to close to the shore if you were navigating a canal or river. You use it to push off against objects at a distance so its used in metaphor as a way of saying as a way to emphasise to keep your distance from someone.
Edit: Also Netto is a ridiculously cheap discount supermarket selling knock off branded and self branded products at stupidly low prices and Quavers are a corn/maize based snack a bit similar to cheese puffs but they're curled.
It’s great to watch stuff like this as someone from Bolton especially
With all the madness go on in the world this channel makes me laugh allot. Keep it up!! (Uk)
Stumbled across your channel today and been working through some reaction videos. Fantastic fun, so I gotta subscribe.
A bargepole is what the old barges used to use on the canals, its a long pole
Northern accent is hardest accent to follow. I’m proud of mine
Or a thick brummie/black country accent. I stayed in Kinver near Stockbridge for a weekend. I couldn't understand a word said!
Mad to see my hometown being featured in a reaction video
Just to let you know at 3:05, the woman on the left is Peter's mother, and the woman in the middle is his Nan :) I always find the jokes funnier seeing his Nans reactions to Peter talking about her
Thanks that awesome
🤣 I think you missed the last one. Do you deliver? No, we do lamb, chicken and fish...😂
“Happy as Larry , is a boxer from Australia, who used to cry tears of happiness on the way to the ring , this is the Larry everyone talks about lol
Read orbits in local paper over breakfast on a Sunday oh so and so died you know the one with the blonde hair 😂
You have the most contagious laugh and I enjoy your reactions.
You should react to Dave Allen on religion or teaching the time etc old but he is a great story teller of a comedian.
I love Peter Kay but he does have a very strong Bolton accent ; you did well 👍🏼
I can watch him 24/7
