    Great jig! Quick easy and simple. It looks very safe as long as the bottom is flat before you start. 👍

    This was interesting to watch and learn that some pieces of wood are a no-go. Now I understand why a pine tree smells so good with all that pitch in the wood. Thanks for sharing this information.

    Finaly i can write on my computer again after a tablesaw accident a couple of weeks ago. I was cutting blanks for pens andhad a throwout of a blank that hit my finger at the same speed as the sawblade had. Result a trip to the emergencyroom and some stitches and a little fracture in the long finger on right hand. Now waiting for the nail to fall of. hehe
    Regards

    Suggest you add a peel and stick measure tape, or make your own measure marks. Also, if you add two “tensioners” to the pin bar, you could use them to keep the pin at the right location without the clamp, allowing you to use a shorter bar, and cut larger odd shaped chunks.

    • @SpragueWoodturning
      @SpragueWoodturning  3 роки тому

      Not sure what you mean by tensioner? Thanks

    • @valeriehenschel1590

      @@SpragueWoodturning My miter track has adjusters that make the guide slide properly. Any tensioner that tightens from the top to spread out against the side of the track will work. Yes I found out the hard way you can only cut a circle so small with out binding the blade. Valuable lesson learned fortunately no injuries just a good scare. Watching you make your jig answered many questions and gave me new ideas. Thanks my friend keep turning.

    Nice jig. I really like the slick surface you put on it. I was thinking of using some cheap laminate material for mine. The only other feature I added was a stop on the bottom that references the blade with the sliding table. This allows me to advance straight into the cut and then rotate when I hit the stop. Downside is that I can’t go any further at the end of the cut to free up the blade again.

    • @SpragueWoodturning

    It was interesting to learn how to build and use a jig like this.

    A VERY handy accessory for the band saw. When I made mine I used the deck board out of an old treadmill. It already has a very slick surface. However, on mine I didn't use a track that slides in and out. I just drilled a row of holes at nominal diameters. So with my design I'm limited to specific diameters based on the hole location. With your design you can make any diameter that you want. Either way it works great. Thanks for the extra vid Jim.

    Mine is built like Rich Bolduc's except my pin is smaller. The smaller pin and the uneven surface from using it this weekend to make some bowl blanks for my son. I like the size of yours and will make one larger and with a bigger and longer pin, with the inverted track with a knob so I don't need to use a c-clamp and a stop block so I don't have to use a mark to match up to. I will buy the blades you mentioned as I am using a 3/4" carbide tooth one and it works great but does not cut small diameters.

      The main reason I didn’t use a stop block is so I can push the rig forward to come out of the wood, I find it hard sometimes to not have that this function, thanks for watching!
