I did Ironman Weymouth 70.3 last week and I burnt 8000 calories according to my garmin/hrm. With your formula that would have allowed me to eat (8000 x 3 + 3000) 27,000 calories on the drive home. I probably wasn’t far off. Another class video
When I did rim-to-rim-to-rim of the Grand Canyon (14 hours with a total of 11,000’ elevation gain!), I ate 5,000 calories the day before, 7,000 the day of, and 5,500 the day after. I was still hungry, but it was just too hard to eat more whole foods.
I’m 30 years old and came across your videos (not literally) around six months ago. I really genuinely have found motivation not just for me as I’m already fairly fit in a similar way to you, but more for those around me. Do you have a lovely way about you and your relationship with Jen really resonates with us in. Tough mudder coming up in October Kris
17:20 this reminds me of my gym's locker room quotes printed on each locker: "Don't wish for it to be easier, wish to be better", which really gets my motivation going in the right direction each time I see it.
Just found your channel mate wicked, I’ve been cycling about 3-4 months never thought I’d like it but it’s bringing my fitness back after not doing anything since first lockdown, motivating channel mate 👌🏽
That first barbed wire was probably a rolling one, if you get dizzy you flip over and roll the other way. That's what I stole from watching the pros. You can also take you hydration bladder off one arm and drag it through the low barbed wires to stop it getting snagged. A few things that might help with your next race ! Great video
"not the smoking, they never caught me" love it 🤣I wasn't quite so covert, got caught a few times, fortunately never given the "smoke em up Jonny" treatment
Really refreshing to find a UA-camr that is real, that admits to enjoy Burger King, chocolate and fatty food. Most influencers are so goddam perfect and eating clean 24/7…
This race looks really awesome! You keep me motivated as I can really relate to you running as your closer to my 220lbs weight than the super awesome feathers flying in the front of the pro races. Thanks ! (:
Another great recap, story and edit. At first I thought wow he is narrating, eating that sandwich and driving without wife yelling at him or crashing but then realized i am an idiot and its the UK.
Amazing video. Loved the combination of Spartan footage and eating footage. Kept the video very entertaining. Love the fact that you’re a vegan athlete as well.
Nice work Mark - burpee free Beast! Aroo! You're showing a tonne of strength on those obstacles. VERY jealous of you being able to get a triple trifecta this year. Here in Australia we've just had everything postponed to next year so I won't even be getting a single trifecta. Get out there and smash it for me please!
I worked as a videotape editor for the Public Broadcaster in one of your colonies. Your videos are always a joy to watch, and inspiring, but in addition the editing here was top notch
Loved the comment on the limping less than 4 mins into the video.. I have cerebral palsy which leaves me with a limp but I do lots of different events as, like you, I want to be above average Keep up the videos, they are very good...
Great work Mark, new to your channel, but we both have endurance, strength training and zero drop shoes in common 👍. Great channel, love the hybrid mix of all methods.
Boss video mate haha. Love the content. Looking at getting in to zwift but now I've seen a few videos Spartan racing looks horrible but great at the same time
Fantastic report on your weekends entertainment, I know I don't have the upper body strength for those races, you'd find me in practically every burpee pit 😜😜😜

Just watched this as I have my first spartan coming up and it’s made me incredibly excited for it and slightly annoyed I didn’t decide to do a longer distance event
Another gem! I often wonder if the designer of Spartan OCR has ever actually ran one? Barbed wire just seems a bit much for my liking. But hey! I think OCR is excellent, and wish I was still young enough to try it. Hyrox is definitely an option as a halfway fit 65 year old. It does need to be said, if it hasn’t already? You are a gutsy, and decent athlete Mark! Taking your backstory into account, and the fact that you’ve done ultras, on top of everything else. Your dedication to your activities, your pain threshold, and the very fact that your videos are totally inspiring! Inovative, funny, and well documented, they certainly offer a lot, and are highly watchable, without being phony. Down to earth and real, is how I interpret them. I do hope you’re going to try some boxing, If you haven’t already? There’s a so called ‘White collar boxing organisation in London. Which you’d do well to try as an end product of your boxing training! 16 0unce gloves, and head guard. I suspect you’d do really well. Thanks for your inspiration. Not that I necessarily need it. It’s just the variables, offer excellent insights into my training load😎👍🏽
Amazing well done 👏 a good practice for the spartan race is running in Glencoe. The guns are packed start of the year and by end its empty, but we do a great battered Mars bar. 🤣 awesome work. I'm going to try qualify for UCI World championships next year 45-50 why don't you try it. Cheers
I think it's always better to be in calorie credit soon after. I always find my body still feels in deficit a few days after if I haven't made up for the ones I burnt on the day of the effort itself. Those Spartans look like good fun, I might have to try one, although on the hanging exercises, I will find myself doing burpees which are my unicorn exercises.
Great format. Makes things more interesting. Thank you for all the insights. Extremely helpful (especially for the long rubs, for me). Nice twist on going vegan. At least for a while. Did you ever thought about becoming a WWF/ Nat. Geo etc. (Not from the vegan option, just the eco-friendly, enviro-nature aspect)?
So good, I've never been big into fitness (at all, I was always the goalkeeper in PE), but having lost some weight (18 stone to 15 stone) via fasting, I'm looking to get in shape now I'm under 20% body fat. It's just, where the hell do you start to train for something like this? How many years does it take? I guess couch to 5k, then 10k, and just go from there. I'm turning 24 in April so it's inspiring to know you were able to turn it around later in life. Mental effort though, Mark. Been watching all your vids with my girlfriend over the last couple of weeks and we very much enjoy your humour and take on all things fitness and eating. Keep it up.
Awesome video Mark, very entertaining and inspiring. Very clever with the edit between the gruelling course and the calorific intake 🤣 Well done on completing the third part of the medal 🥇👏🏻
Awesome content as always. My step son asked me if I could only watch one you tuber would it be. Without hesitation Mark Lewis. Keep up the good work a true inspiration 💪💪💪💪
Im sad that the closest Spartan is over 1200 km away, but we do have a similar race here in Finland, but I dont think they have the trifecta style medals.
Great vid Mark. Only just started watching your content recently and love the way your Channel flows! Can I ask do you drink Alcohol? I know it's can be a bit of a taboo subject but the fitness game just wondered what your perspective was on it as I don't recall it being mentioned in any of your videos. 👍🏼
I don’t not drink 😁 I just don’t like it much! On a night out I’d rather a Diet Coke 😁 but my wife likes a drink so if we are out together I’ll drink with her. Short stuff normally (JD) as I don’t get the drinking pints of alcohol thing! I’m just not that into it. Maybe because of my size I can drink a lot and not feel drunk…. Then go straight to ill! So I have no happy drink stage that others seem to like! I’m either sober but drinking……or throwing up 🤣
i'm surprised at your placing. when i did it in 2018 perth scotland beast 40-45 age group i got 14/88. took me 3:30h. it was very difficult especially the absolute strength obstacles. the bucket walk had to carried in front of you (no shoulder carry and we had about 1km distance to carry it over trail tracks. no forfeit option). i couldn't even lift the hoist up as the weight was too high for my body weight. i did hundred of burpees! there is no way i am as fit and strong as you. maybe the pandemic has reduced the overall amount of ppl doing these races to more elite athletes.
@@MarkLewisfitness Great stuff. I did actually enjoy the race and eat vid. More insight into what these races are about. I’ll keep an eye out for the fat loss vid 👍🏻
