Time to change gears and go to "Ray of Light" or "Erotica". Both are completely different from other Madonna albums and also completely different from each other as well. Erotica is an album for adult listeners, with controversial lyrics about sex, romance, relationships, social issues, and the sound is early 90's trip-hop, hip-hop and deep-house oriented. And yes, everything is intentional with madonna as she is famous for paying attention to every single detail in her music, her performances, videos.

This album is good but not one I go back to. Ray of Life is top tier. You will be in a trance with some songs. Sky Fits Heaven is that song for me on that album. Her humming on that album alone deserved a Grammy. That album is so good. The lyrics are 👌🏼👌🏼very thoughtful/ meaningful. We all are so excited for you to get to it! Great reaction!!
Hi Beth! Not sure if anyone has mentioned yet,but the opening line from ‘What it Feels Like for a Girl’ is actually from a movie. Do a search for ‘Cement Garden’ and the scene with that quote should pop up. Or add ‘Girls can wear jeans’ to narrow it down if needed. By the way, loving your Madonna reactions.Your ‘American Life’ reaction is the best one on UA-cam by far!!! ‘Music’, whilst having some great moments always felt a little disjointed to me. I can see what the album was intended to be in a cohesive sense, but it just didn’t quite pull it off. Keep up the good work! With love from the UK 🇬🇧
@@BethThereseReacts For quite a while,I thought it was Madonna putting on an English accent. She was living in the UK at the time and married to an English fella, Guy Ritchie. She would often slip into a ‘posh’ English accent, much to the the amusement (and bewilderment) of everyone.😄
Don't Tell Me was originally written by Joe Henry, her brother-in-law. It's technically a cover of his song Stop. ua-cam.com/video/rsLyftGFJ5M/v-deo.htmlsi=Rgd8N0XS0cGHCqJ- He would also co-produce three more songs of hers... Jump, Devil Wouldn't Recognize You, and Falling Free.
She's a PIONEER....period ❤ Love your Madonna reactions... she's the Queen of Pop for so many reasons Love that new generations are discovering her art Congrats from Chile
Holy moly you really need to listen to Ray of Light! Madonna at her best. Erotica can be polarizing but she really pushed a lot of limits with it and it’s a masterpiece
No Madonna album is similar to the other, her discography is so diverse like no one other's. American Life is electro-folk and Music is electro-acoustic.
Music still sounds SO fresh a quarter of a century later. Madonna's 12th and final #1 hit. What Vogue was for 90s Madonna, Music became for 00s Madonna: the ultimate, career & decade-defining dance hit. So many great live versions of both songs as fans expect to hear them at her concerts. Cyber-Raga was a bonus track you missed out on. She finally put it on itunes & youtube. Sounds like a mix of her Ray of Light & Music eras.
Thank you again for reacting to Madonna! As written before she's my favorite artist and you're one of my favorite reactors, so this is a perfect match. Lenghty comment ahead. You mentioned Mirwais a lot in this video however he isn't the only person that produced the album. After the Ray of Light sessions, Madonna reunited with William Orbit, who produced most of it as well as some soundtrack songs with her afterwards, to do Music with her. However she felt that the stuff made with him was more of the same so she either kept the more dance-y tracks (Runaway Lover and Amazing), reworked them (Gone was reworked by Mark Stent who also reworked X-Static Process on American Life, and Mysore Style was reworked into Cyber-Raga, a japanese bonus track), or scrapped them (Arioso, La Petite Jeune Fille, Like an Angel Passing Through My Room, Liquid Love, Run; all very good tracks that leaked but Madonna doesn't like to repeat herself). She then met Mirwais who worked on the other tracks: Music, Impressive Instant, I Deserve It, Nobody's Perfect, Don't Tell Me, and Paradise. Hollywood and Intervention from American Life were intially written during the Music sessions as well. She also met Guy Sigsworth who did What It Feels Like for a Girl. If you disliked the vocoder in Nobody's Perfect, you might dislike Madame X, her last album, which was produced in part by Mirwais. It's full of that vocoder effect, although the lyrics are more similar in style to American Life, more serious and political in its content, dealing with world issues. But you seemed to like the three William Orbit tracks in this reaction, which means that you might like Ray of Light, my favorite album, which is more "spiritual heavy". I hope that you will check her videos as well, which are an integral part of her artistic work. Seeing you watching the Britney videos for the first time was really great, and if you liked her videos, you will definitely like Madonna's videography. The American Life era has some of her best videos.
*Ray of Light* was met with universal acclaim upon its release and is often considered Madonna's magnum opus album. and it is! The *Something to Remember* ballads compilation album is completely different from the three albums you've already listened to.
Love your reaction! you need to watch the video of "What It Feels Like for a Girl" it's a remix and the video is really intense lol. Also this album has two bonus tracks "American Pie" (worldwide bonus track except north america) and "Cyber-Raga" (japan bonus track). Also the latin american edition of the album has the spanish version of "What It Feels..." with the title "Lo Que Siente la Mujer". The album before "Music" is "Ray of Light" and it's absolutely a fan favorite along "Confessions" :)
'What It Feels Like For A Girl' was produced by Guy Sigsworth. He worked with Imogen Heap on their Frou Frou project. They only have one album, Details. The first track, 'Let Go', on that album was HUGE when it was released. It was the theme song to the movie Garden State. You should watch the videos for this album as well. The remixes are insane.
I think it's great to remember that album was released in 2000 and Madonna was introduced to french house music and euroclash. Ofc it sounds like she found a new alley to play and decided to play. She was also very spiritual back then.... Songs like Impressive Instant is like a huge journey into the cosmos with french house as soundtrack ahaha.
I really enjoyed this reaction, thank you! The sound and beats of Impressive Instant are simply insane, I can't keep still when I hear it. Gone, Nobody's Perfect and Paradise Not for Me are goosebump moments, so beautiful - check out her live performance of "Paradise..." from the Confessions tour, it's even better, even more goosebumps. Amazing, which I can listen to over and over, and I find its sound transcends Madonna's albums and could easily be found on Ray of Light or American Life, yet it feels different. The Above & Beyond/Oakenfold remix of What it Feels Like for a Girl is another tune can't sit still to. For me, Madonna's magic is partly in the mix of acoustic guitars, EDM and orchestra.
Seeing your absolute real reaction to hearing "What It Feels Like For A Girl" was so pure and wonderful. Check out the video for the song to see how she flipped it on its heels. This is why Madonna is the Queen of pop.
First of all, amazing reaction! I like how sincere your opinions are. Anyway, I feel like Mirwais' production is very easy to get an "overdosis" from, especially when you listen to two albums in a row, it can sound too repetitive or too intense as his style is based on autotune, heavy mixing and bizarre combinations. These features are very unique for sure, but for us regular, distant from electronic listeners, it can be too much if we are not in the mood. With that being said, if you plan to move on with her discography chronologically, you will definitely be surprised with what she's got in store, as Ray of Light is not only one of her best albums, but also one of the best records ever made according to multiple critics, reviews and listeners. There you will find very personal lyrics, transcending sounds and her best vocals in any of her studio albums due to her intense lessons for the Evita movie (1996), a musical that required her to extend her reach and technique. I hope you continue to have fun while listening to Madonna, her discography combined with her videos, attitudes and uniqueness can surely prove how no one can beat her in the pop game, she really is the queen. Thank you and love from Brazil :)
You make great points! Maybe I should’ve had an album or two in between these so I didn’t get as overwhelmed. Thanks for this insightful and kind comment!! 😁🩷🇧🇷
Madonna did a beautiful live version of Paradise (Not for Me) in one of her tours (reinvention?) that showed just how beautiful the harmonies are in that song… and Gone is just so gorgeous, a little sad, but raw and real. So underrated. I think with further listens, when you know what to expect, you’ll get used to the production of some of the more chaotic songs, like Impressive Instant, which are such bops. I absolutely love that one too. The only really clunker on her is I Deserve It. Guy Richie even f’ed up her music. Lol
You should see the videos for this era. There’s videos for music, don’t tell me, what it feels like for a girl (it’s a dance remix for the video that was banned for being too violent), and also a tour backdrop video for paradise not for me
When I hear this album again … I’m reminded of bands like Air and Daft Punk and the MASSIVE influence France was having on the electronic music scene in the late 90s And early 00s
You're a great reactor, so engaged with the song itself and very honest about your experience with the song, with a bit of light comedy sprinkled in. It's refreshing when everyone is doing reactions these days, I'm glad I've found a music reactor that's this good! As most people have mentioned, Ray of Light is probably a must, even if you never react to another Madonna album. It's her most accomplished work. despite being a little long, it features some of the best music of her career. Frozen in particular is an out and out masterpiece.
I loved this album and bought all the CD singles (back when you had to do that) for all the remixes I could find lol. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm remembering that the video for What It Feels Like For a Girl (which used the Above & Beyond remix of the song) was banned from airing on MTV.
I was literally feeling like I don’t know I’m in the mood for this after just listening to American Life and you said both lol😂❤ Madonna ballets always grow on you. Amazing I had that on repeat on and off for years
The music album sold 11 million albums worldwide. Music the single was a huge success and a Madonna classic reaching no.1 in 23 countries including no.1 in the USA, UK and Australia. Don’t tell me was a top 10 hit world wide reaching no.4 in the USA 🇺🇸
I actually really like this album ! I don’t listen to it that often and I agree that it is not the same level as American life but it’s still really good album. If you do like deep lyrics I think you’re going to love Ray of light. 🙂
The record company wanted to put out Amazing as a single but she said it sounded too much like Beautiful Stranger and she wanted to put out impressive instant..they said no, she refused to do anything with Amazing and they ended up putting Impressive instant as a promo only club single..I wish they had let her do it because it could have had a great video
Hi Beth! Thx for this reaction! IMO this album was different at that time since in early 2000s the sound was so influenced by 90's R&B and it make it very peculiar! For me her best 3 album are the ones she released in 90s (Erotica, Bedtime Stories and Ray Of Light) cuz i really like the trip pop sound of ROL and especially the R&B/soul/blues/jazz sound in Erotica and Bedtime Stories🌟✨. The song music has such an ipnothic rythm and I enjoy it so much! Pls continue with Madonna's album reaction! I love seeing them cuz u are so real and genuine and u deserve more sub!😊 I see eveyone is calling ROL and u should get into it🥰. See ya in ur Madonna/Mariah Carey's video! I luv ya and i wish u an amazing day❤️🌻
William Orbit is the producer of "Runaway Lover", "Amazing", and "Gone." He also did amazing work with Madonna on the Ray of Light album and 6 songs on MDNA. "Amazing" uses an instrumental that she and Orbit have used several times, originally on her hit single "Beautiful Stranger" and then again on a song called "I'm a Sinner." Guy Sigsworth produced "What It Feels Like For a Girl."
The thing I love about Madonna so much is that every single album is like in its own whole universe!! Her earlier albums are very much pop but even bedtime stories is such an experimental album pretty early in her career. She is always keeping us on our toes!!!! But favorite album is ray of light!!! Even though before that, I could not decide between true blue, like a Virgin and bedtime stories!!! There are a few songs from each album that I cannot choose between. And the immaculate collection is perfect to just put on after you have listened to all the other albums, of course!
What I love about Madonna is her ability to go with her gut and to no doubt it for one second. This was the album to make after Ray Of Light , in ROL (not to spoil it for you) she is spiritual and self reflective, in Music she has let go of the things that are holding her back and now we move on to funkier sounds, more experimental, this album feels like a trip through sounds with fun, personal lyrics and it culminates with Gone, one of her best album closers, giving us the passage to American Life
I just spent the night watching your three Madonna reactions and all I can think is, damn, and you haven’t even listened to the Ray of Light, Bedtime Stories, Like a Prayer, and Erotica albums yet. You’re in for such a treat. I die of envy any time someone listens to Madonna albums for the first time. I WISH I could listen to Madonna albums for the first time again. Her music is so euphoric and intoxicating. I like that you keep using words like “abduction” and “trance” during these videos but it’s just the absolute truth. SUBSCRIBED.
When I first heard Impressive Instant I was absolutely blown away. It was so sonically interesting, catchy while still being dissonant. She was killing it at the cutting edge of the pop world at age 42! Watching her do it live at Roseland in NYC and on the Drowned World Tour was nothing short of an explosive thrill - btw I can't wait to see how confused you are by that tour - most of the audience was too! I will always love this album - Paradise Not For Me is pure genius. It's easy to see why she shifted to Mirwais - the two William Orbit tracks are ok but uninspired in comparison. American Life seemed like a huge letdown after this but I have learned to appreciate it in retrospect.
As everybody keep saying - and I profoundly agree - now you should listen to Ray of Light and, possibly, watch three videos taken from the album: Ray of Light, Drowned World/Substitute for Love and Frozen. The album came out in 1998, won each and every single possible award and sold about 20 mln records. William Orbit is the producer - besides herself, obviously - literally a british genius who turned this work a masterpiece at any level.
I just discovered you and I love the reaction. I feel like impressive instant was so ahead of its time. Love it. Don't know if you've done any music video reactions yet, if not please do it! 🤩
I had just come out during this era, and I went to an afterparty where 3 drag queens interrupted in the small hours to put on a full performance of Impressive Instance. And it was the most incredible thing I’ve seen. It was 5am and lots was consumed, but still, that song just hits me differently with that memory. It was defo low lighting, robotic horror-esq moves, creepy but fabulous.
Ray of Light is her best album, but I think you should react to Bedtime Stories next. It will be a break from the electric sounds. Bedtime stories is a vibey R&B album with interesting lyrics and soft vocals.
I stumbled across this reaction. Now I HAVE TO watch the rest !!! As a Madonna Stan “Music” had to grow on me as a whole album. (I love it now). Nobody’s Perfect is a grower for sure
This album just like a transition from Ray of Light to American Life. By the way, maybe you can listen to Aphrodite by Kylie. Cause its producer is Stuart Price, who has produced Confessions On a Dance Floor and Future Nostalgia.
Oh that makes sense!! It did seem like a recording of something. Glad you are enjoying, thanks so much 😁💙
@@BethThereseReacts For quite a while,I thought it was Madonna putting on an English accent. She was living in the UK at the time and married to an English fella, Guy Ritchie. She would often slip into a ‘posh’ English accent, much to the the amusement (and bewilderment) of everyone.😄
Don't Tell Me was originally written by Joe Henry, her brother-in-law. It's technically a cover of his song Stop.
ua-cam.com/video/rsLyftGFJ5M/v-deo.htmlsi=Rgd8N0XS0cGHCqJ-
He would also co-produce three more songs of hers... Jump, Devil Wouldn't Recognize You, and Falling Free.
She's a PIONEER....period ❤
Love your Madonna reactions... she's the Queen of Pop for so many reasons
Love that new generations are discovering her art
Congrats from Chile
😁🩷
The rocket in Nobody’s Perfect is why I love your channel. 😂
@@86figs 😂♥️♥️♥️♥️
Holy moly you really need to listen to Ray of Light! Madonna at her best. Erotica can be polarizing but she really pushed a lot of limits with it and it’s a masterpiece
Now is the turn of ray of light 🤭🤭🤭 I love your reactions gurl!!!! ❤❤
Thank you!! 😁💙
No Madonna album is similar to the other, her discography is so diverse like no one other's. American Life is electro-folk and Music is electro-acoustic.
That’s what i’ve heard!
Yes!
Shoutout william orbit!! 🗣️ thanks for the info 😁
Being a huge madonna fan I love your reactions!!!!
Thank you so much!!!
At this point you gotta just go down the line in reverse release order bc every record is SO different 😭
Lolll
Thank you! I didn’t know about the bonus tracks! 🩷
Next has to be Ray of Light
Love your reactions to Madonna's albums! There's so much more to come! I'm waitiiiing!
Thank you 😁🩷
I think it's great to remember that album was released in 2000 and Madonna was introduced to french house music and euroclash. Ofc it sounds like she found a new alley to play and decided to play. She was also very spiritual back then.... Songs like Impressive Instant is like a huge journey into the cosmos with french house as soundtrack ahaha.
Beth, you’re so lovely and funny. I love your reactions!!
Thank you so much 🥹💙
Another great reaction! Looking forward to next one you do.😊
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed 😁
Omg i love you! I’m so happy you’re discovering the genius of Madonna. I wish i was there with you vibing to all her songs!! ❤❤❤
Lol
Confessions,not Reinvention
Impressive Instant it’s out of this world
Music production in this song it’s insane
made in France ! the French touch
One of my FAV Madonna albums it’s a real MASTERWORK
Don't tell me is so good, I'm emotionally connected to it
I NEED YOUR RAY OF LIGHT REACTION NOWWWW
You should see the videos for this era. There’s videos for music, don’t tell me, what it feels like for a girl (it’s a dance remix for the video that was banned for being too violent), and also a tour backdrop video for paradise not for me
I loved “Music” (the song) and “Don’t Tell Me” as a teenager.
Waiting for the Erotica album!!! And waiting for you make a reaction for the Christina Aguilera albuns!
When I hear this album again … I’m reminded of bands like Air and Daft Punk and the MASSIVE influence France was having on the electronic music scene in the late 90s And early 00s
I can say Ray of Light+Music+American Life is her alien abduction era 😅
Nobody's perfect and Paradise are my favorites ❤

Same!
I hope Madonna can come up with a universally loved album again. Her works after Confessions divided fans....
I feel like i’ve seen the most positivity toward ray of light!
@@BethThereseReactsThat's before confession her run from true blue to confessions are considered one of the great album runs in pop music
Music is her best album! I love it ❤
Great reactions. I am anxious to see you cover rebel heart. Great album.
Thank you for the amazing reaction video for my only Queen forever and always. ❤
Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate that
I loved this album and bought all the CD singles (back when you had to do that) for all the remixes I could find lol. I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm remembering that the video for What It Feels Like For a Girl (which used the Above & Beyond remix of the song) was banned from airing on MTV.
Madonna, our Queen! You will love Bedtime Stories and Ray of Light albums ❤❤❤
Ah I love this album, and I definitely loved your reaction to it! I would be really excited to see your reaction to Erotica and Ray of Light! Awesome
Thank you!! 😁💙
🎉
do ray of light next! maybe go backwards from now on, and after debut you can listen to her last four
Going backwards through her catalogue from here is a good idea.
I might do that!
I really enjoy these madonna videos.
Please do Rebel Heart next
Yay! Glad you’re enjoying
I actually really like this album ! I don’t listen to it that often and I agree that it is not the same level as American life but it’s still really good album. If you do like deep lyrics I think you’re going to love Ray of light. 🙂
When you jumped during the beginning of AMAZING made me jumped! 😂😂
Lollll
Please react to Ray of Light, it is a true spiritual journey with such deep lyrics and psychedelic sounds that you are going to love
Music was the #1 mega smash during my senior year of High School. Great memories.
SUBSCRIBED.
Yassss
I love this album! What a great reaction ❤
Thank you! 🩷🎶
I am obsessed with “What it Feels Like” it really applies to being in any underclass!!
William Orbit is the producer - besides herself, obviously - literally a british genius who turned this work a masterpiece at any level.
bedtime stories is so good, you should definitely give that a listen!
That one is a grower! Believe me, Beth. The production is outstanding listening in the earphones
I love your Madonna reactions!! ❤❤
Yay!! Thank you!
I just discovered you and I love the reaction. I feel like impressive instant was so ahead of its time. Love it.
Don't know if you've done any music video reactions yet, if not please do it! 🤩
Thank you!! 😁 Glad you enjoyed. I haven’t seen any madonna music videos other than i think one she did for britney spears’ album! ❤️
Creepy but fabulous ✨
Ray of Light is her best album, but I think you should react to Bedtime Stories next. It will be a break from the electric sounds. Bedtime stories is a vibey R&B album with interesting lyrics and soft vocals.
React to "Like a Prayer," considered a masterpiece by fans and chosen by Rolling Stone as one of the 100 best albums of the century. “Erotica” too!

Ohh transition album makes sense
Aphrodite is soooooo good. Such a fun album!!!
