The external power supply is an interesting concept. Having a battery in each device hanging off the end of a rifle (where their perceived weight is greater because they're on the end of a lever, rather than close to the body of the shooter) definitely changes how it feels to point it. I could see an argument for having one single power supply for all the doodads which was mounted closer to the receiver or perhaps even on the shooter's rig, which might also allow you to make the devices themselves smaller since they wouldn't need to accommodate their own on board battery. I doubt this will ever become the standard, but it's kind of a neat idea.

I grabbed an LE321G a week ago and I like it quite well. It's on my aero M5 which I've tried to make as slick and as light as possible while still having all of the functionality I want. It's kind of expensive for what it is, but there's not really much to compete with it unless you want to double the price and get a perst-2.

@Hoplopfheil - Thank you for doing these product reviews. Will you be doing a product review for the Holosun LE/LS 420? Curious how the IR illuminator compares to the 321.
There are a couple of points missing. First, white light seems to use switched, not linear stabilizer (note strobe effect when filmed on SiOnyx). This could be pretty bad when used with a body/helmet camera. Second, it's unclear how USB power works together with batteries. Does it have a priority when plugged in even when batteries are installed? That's how Flir Breach works, for example. I also think that the largest USB Type A connector on the other end of that cable is the worst possible solution.
There always seems to be a big focus on the civ power vs. Mil/LE power IR lasers and illuminators, but how much does that really matter? I'm not trying to be a dick, these are things I don't know and I don't have the facilities to test. Practical examples Through a non-magnified tube, what's the maximum distance for target PID? Something to think about with the USB power option: in a SHTF scenario, batteries will disappear pretty quickly and you won't be able to replace them, while you might have a power source with which you can recharge the external USB battery pack. The best LAM on the planet won't do you any good if your battery is dead and you can't replace it. There's also the fact that you can't store the unit with a battery in it so if I need to grab the rifle and go in 10 seconds at night it's a lot faster to plug in a USB cable than to open and close the battery compartment. After watching about 6 hours of videos like this and obsessing over it for a few weeks I finally went with this unit for my GPR because (a) I keep hearing, including from this channel, how unreliable and fragile the Steiners are, which takes them completely off the table as far as I am concerned, and (b) I see it as extremely unlikely that I'll ever need to engage any target with NODs at over 150 yards or so (not coincidentally, the distance from my house to the road), and this laser seems adequate for that. In any case my ability to ID a target at longer range than that with any night vision I'm ever going to be able to afford is probably about zero. I also regard a coaxial visible and IR laser as an absolute minimum so I can check my zero against my optic without having to do any target shooting at night.
Was considering this for my spear lt in 300blk. Probably cap the light and use a surefire. Don’t have nods yer but a local range does night shoots with rentals so I thought it would be nice to have my rifle zeroed with a laser I could just rent nods and go
In my experience it’s better to just source white and IR light separately as you will get better in that sake and can place those items somewhere else. Then get their le221g model and have IR and green laser separately which doesn’t have dispersion and not worried about placing all the way out front on the muzzle to not cast as lasers don’t usually do this.
@@paraglidingnut26 the persts are better quality than the dbal a3. I don't like the civvie peq 15 any more than the a3 honestly. The feel is better, but the illuminator sucks. Stat wise it looks the same on paper, however just wondering if it's an improvement or a step backwards. Desperately just trying to find the best bang for my buck IR device. The holosuns sounded promising but based on your feedback not sure if I'd touch them over some of the competitors.
Almost definitely the same output power as the 321. The market for IR devices sucks right now, the LS321 is a good entry level device while you wait for things to improve.
Hated on holosun a lot before for being cheap and patent infringement on US companies, but I have a hs403c with the riser and the only complaint I really have is the red dot isn’t a “perfect circle” but you really gotta focus on the dot instead of looking through it to see it. Not a terrible entry option till I upgrade to an aimpoint t2.
I made the plunge from a holosun 503gu to a T2 and honestly i like the 503 more and can honestly say I was a little disappointed in the T2. The glass wasn't as clear as the holosun, in that it had a little distortion(and I bought it from Aimpoint direct so no it wasn't a knock off) if you're happy with the holosun don't pay full price for a T2. YMMV.
As a 'murican, I wondered what it felt like for European people watching gun channels showing off stuff they were never likely to own. As a dirty poor, watching reviews of night vision gear has educated me on this feeling.
So basically.. it's acceptable for farting around shooting varmints in the dark and doing drills where you'd rather not risk damaging a superior unit. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have lasers on a hunting rig while predator hunting with friends.

I bought a Steiner laser, and the laser zeroing screws didn't have any form of retention, and the zero at 20 feet was off buy a few feet to the side and didn't have enough adjustment to actually zero. Never again. I have no interest in EVER buying anything from Steiner.

The USB feature is so you can defend yourself from your PC when you get swatted while streaming on twitch
That’s going to be my strategy.
Whenever I’m able to finally afford NODS I’m gonna go with the LS321.
Yep it's a good start
Have a one time chance to get night vision and ir laser for under 5k what would you recommend for cost and quality? FYI new suscribir love your chanel
So the le are lower mount profile and titanium vs aluminum and higher ls series
Good info
Thinking of purchasing this, is the green visible laser any good? Anything better for a visible laser ?
LE420 Review please!
Hey its the thing they use for video game rangefinder attachment
So we’re stuck buying fp peq15’s or a mawl still. Way to go Holosun.
Why not persts :)
I'm looking at surefire, as well.
@@no-sway3709 For the long haul, most NV dudes want better quality.
@@paraglidingnut26 the persts are better quality than the dbal a3. I don't like the civvie peq 15 any more than the a3 honestly. The feel is better, but the illuminator sucks.
Once you add a 3d printed filter to the persts it really cleans up the laser quite nicely. I use surefires for additional illum when needed.
So I'm just getting into the NV game... You said the Holosun, more or less, is a little scrawny for any full size or "duty" rifle use. What is the best value out there for an IR laser illuminator on a 16 inch AR?
Estonia Defense Forces use this IR on their LMT RAHE 20 rifles. I’d say it’s pretty good!
@@lone556wolf2 thanks! Going to look a little more into it. I have a 503g, 507c and their 3x magnifier so I'm definitely in the Holosun fan club
Serve p/ pistola G3c ,e se não qual seria?
Is it possible to run flip irons in front of the device or will that block the emitters?
Looks like you finally found a device for your mp5😅 I'm dreading having to buy a D2 cause PERST 3 is gonna be a tough one one to catch.
Does the QC follow the D2 or did they actually take pride in it I can't find anyone roasting it online
So, out of the available civilian IR laser and IR illuminator devices, whats your hierarchy?
So wait this is a restricted laser that is not full power???
As much of a hot mess as Steiner is, what are your thoughts on the DBAL-D2?
Probably the best choice in the market right now which isn't saying much.
@@Hoplopfheil talk about damning through faint praise 🤣, thanks!
How would you rate this against the new Surefire all in one VX2 something something something? Seems like the same price point….
XVL2-IRC is probably better on a pistol but I find LED based unfocused IR illuminators to be of questionable utility. And it'll probably run about $300 more than the LE321.
@@Hoplopfheil thanks! I just pulled the trigger on the LE321G and I’ll give it a run. I like the size and options for not completely destroying my bank account. Thanks for all of the great videos on night vision and IR. I bought a gen 3 Elbit WP last week and in part due to all of your great videos. Stay frosty! Cheers!
I want a cheaper laser for my fighting rifle and it's between this or the Odin mini light laser combo.
FYI the new LE420 can be had for around 1200 with a much brighter 600 lumen light and 18650 compatibility. Not sure if the illuminator is any better though.
Is that a normal price for an illuminator?
For an illuminator/laser combo, yes.
Hey Hop, just wondering if you had any hands on time or heard anything about the holosun LE420 or LS variation. Just wondering if it's any better than the 321.
@@Hoplopfheil thanks for the input Hop. We appreciate all you do!
So.. LE = Lots of Extra stuff.... LS = Less Shit!
Very well said.
I got the holosun le420 and honestly it seems the ir illumination is maybe slightly better but not enough. However the light it as an acceptable level
Can you confirm it can take a 18650?
YMMV.
I hope Cloud defensive will eventually get into the LAM market
For the price, would you get the LE over the LS?
Nope
is this offset for a front sight?
Any preference of passive vs active nv aiming
As a 'murican, I wondered what it felt like for European people watching gun channels showing off stuff they were never likely to own. As a dirty poor, watching reviews of night vision gear has educated me on this feeling.
So basically.. it's acceptable for farting around shooting varmints in the dark and doing drills where you'd rather not risk damaging a superior unit. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have lasers on a hunting rig while predator hunting with friends.
Hey hop what do you think about quad nods
Unless you've got well over $10k to spend there's not much to talk about
If you do have $10k plus, I would not spend it based on advice from some guy on UA-cam.
Quads are bulkier and around $40k.
Hops recommends a pvs-14 as a minimum to puchase. Read the reviews on Hops previous discussion about a less expensive NODS. A lot of brand names are listed. I got my white phosphor, thin filmed, bino's for $7k. With ir light, ir laser, helmet, attachment to helmet, and training bumped it up to $12k.
@@paraglidingnut26 that's not a bad deal. I got a steal on a pvs14 wp monocle. I've spent more on lasers than my NODs. I'm about $7k deep.
@@no-sway3709 I can only guess you got the MAWL or M/LE PEQ's.
@@paraglidingnut26 na, a dbal a3 ($1k), perst 3 ($1.1k) and perst 4 ($600). I got the PVS14 wp from licentia's Christmas sale over a year ago for $2,400.
Hop when is next phase of this testing? Seems like a good fit for your ptr-9 or 300blk broke badger
I bought a Steiner laser, and the laser zeroing screws didn't have any form of retention, and the zero at 20 feet was off buy a few feet to the side and didn't have enough adjustment to actually zero.
Never again. I have no interest in EVER buying anything from
Steiner.
What happened with the mic?
Hi Hop, would you be willing to change your name to Hop Waffle? That would be lovely.
Idk why this got recommended to me, but your voice is remarkably similar to Brandon Herrera's. Slightly different, but your accent and mannerisms are so similar lol
Especially when you say "or"
Hey how are you liking this?
I was gonna say this would be ideal with a sub gun type thing.
Hop is tall, and handsome.
@Kiril Belikov Great flick
The white light output on these is so pitiful why bother? If I want white light on a rifle I want all the lumens/candela I can get. Give me full power IR and you can keep the meager white light output.
Does this work with the taps sync?
Yeah but that's totally pointless
Does it sit as tall as the LS321?
Seems to, yeah.
Like if you think Hop needs to start a podcast ASAP.
*1:02** mark* holy shit thats a lot of lights.
That's only one light
@@Hoplopfheil oh, i thought that was a light on the right side of your holosun. Is it a laser than?
