They are like those fake luxury brands that just have T-shirts or other clothing items printed in China but because it has a logo on it all the sudden it's worth hundreds of dollars. Except this is significantly more expensive, if you're going to pay this much for a watch it's not just about it looking good or it being a status symbol it's also about appreciating the mechanics inside the watch. Watches are essentially an engineering work of art that you wear on your wrist, and having something where the entire engineering of that being the movement being some cheap 150 to $250 movement is genuinely quite disappointing

Both F P Journe and Hublot are a few decades old, relative newcomers to the industry. Nobody begrudges Journe's $50,000 price tags but Hublot gets blasted for charging $15,000. Why? Because Journe took absolutely no shortcut in its path to the top while Hublot took every shortcut in the book. Hublot is all about taking a movement that barely costs a few hundred bucks, dressing it up to look a million bucks and then charging a million.

It's because other watches called luxury coz of their individual complication and movements that nobody can replicate and thats why they r special..otherwise all swiss watches like rolex, rm, Jacob, ap, patek, omega, cartier, Bulova, zenith, citizen and others hundreds of luxury brands doesn't go over $1500 to produce. And hublows complication is copid and common in other cheap watches..

It’s 2 things: the first is the marketing, which pushes it as a status symbol harder than most of their brands
The second is the movement and finishing, meaning that it’s an awful value proposition
Each of these factors on their own would be fine, but in combination it becomes clear that they’re not targeting enthusiasts, and that they’re basically selling a longiness for the price of a Rolex

  • @InTenMinutes1

What about the criticism that they often use Sellita movements in their watches rather than making them in house? I think this probably is bad practice for a luxury watch brand.
