  • Around the same time Rosa Parks famously protested segregation by refusing to give up her bus seat to a white passenger, a teenager named Claudette Colvin went to jail in Montgomery, Ala., for doing the exact same thing. This is her story.

She's on my bored of inspiring women. Ironically enough just next to Harriet Tubman who is at the center. Thank you for your bravery, beautiful, inspiring woman.

Thank you Claudette for contributing to positive change in out world.
She refused to stand, Rosa refused to stand, protesters at the counters of restaurants refused to stand and now Colin refuses to stand. Let's hope there will be more positive changes!

It's wrong that Rosa Parks is the only one getting credit.

It is amazing what a pebble tossed into water can do. Or what effects the beating wings of a beautiful butterfly can have, not today, or even tomorrow. But over time, when enough butterfly's come together, those little wings create an effect that no one can resist.

I'm reading the book at school I was kind of mad when Rosa didn't thank Claudette when she got out of jail idk if she did cause I'm only on page 71 but it wasn't right when they gave rosa all the credit she's the 3rd person to not get up off the seat

Sunshine weird gal Gittens there wasn't any reason for Rosa to thank her. They mention Claudette in the story about Rosa. Rosa's platform made for more of an impact because Rosa was an adult and was also part of the NAACP.

The NAACP decided she was too young (15), and not too long after she was refused to stand, she got pregnant (unmarried), and the NAACP decided it would make the movement look bad.

Yes! Hero. I've been waiting for this since Colvin was featured in an episode of Comedy Central's Drunk History. Warning for crude language: ua-cam.com/video/m8Occ7XSgQc/v-deo.html

Claudette Colvin was the first but she didn’t take that action that Rosa parks did and used it to prove a point

Praying to the God they forced on your ancestors to maintain control. Yea, I'm sure he helped them and you. I applaud your stand, but not the blind trust to held for a foreigners God.
