Update 3 days later on April 14, 2021: This has now been posted in more than 100 facebook groups and 15 facebook pages. I only have about 300 more facebook groups to post in and some of them are mega church groups and Christian groups sporting 500k to 1 million members! YOWZER! I think non-trumpet players are really digging this music video and hopefully many will get involved. This is going out over the entire internet and I have enlisted some folks to help me get the word out with shares, and posting it to social media I am not apart of. ...like Twitch or Tik tok. I don't know those really nor have accounts, but guess what? This video is going there! I am more than pleased at the excitement and energy this video has had and it only seems to be gaining. Just in the facebook Christian groups alone there is close to 4 million members when you add all of them up and THIS video will be posted in front of all those Church and Christian groups...LOOK OUT! It truly is very very corny, but you must have already heard me preach about the "over-processed" sound that these trumpet players are getting....almost electronic and fake.

Update 24 hours later: It's been a day since the Premiere and I want to thank all the great commenters here. If you scroll down, there are some nut job comments here too! For the record, I KNOW OF NOBODY ELSE that has recorded this music! However, there are some trying to provide disinformation. Some are also making some crazy remarks about my playing. Normally, I delete these crazy comments, but for this video, I may leave them up so others can see the outlandish, craziness I have had to deal with all my life being at the top of the trumpet pyramid. My personal opinion is these commenters are jealous, envious and CAN'T STAND the fact I am not the typical humble, meek, beta, "yes dear" pro trumpet player that seems to be the hallmark of the famous trumpeters living in L.A. and other places these days. I got my own style and it is not the pull your pants down and bend over style that so many famous pro trumpeters abide by. I am the opposite and embrace my 1st amendment! Remember this: Free speech is not JUST speech you agree with, it is more of the speech you DISAGREE with, find obscene, offensive, uncomfortable...yeah, THAT is free speech and expect MORE free speech from KURT THOMPSON!

This is amazing. Wynton is my hero, but I just went through about 100 of his videos. Wynton has NEVER done a real music video like this.
Wynton plays what he makes up and RARELY plays a KNOWN, written high note trumpet solo. He used to play written classical trumpet music, but SCREWED UP SO MANY times in front of audiences back before cell phones and videos were common, that he had temper tantrums and swore of classical trumpet playing. If there is anybody out there that proves WHAT I DO IS THE MOST DIFFICULT TRUMPET, it is Wynton Marsalis! What would happen to Wynton if he had to play JESUS CHRIST SUPER STAR live in front of an audience? Nothing, because first of all, HE DOESN'T HAVE THE CHOPS TO PLAY IT! hello??? Let's say we handicap him and let him take down the Double A's, C's, D's, and E's. HE STILL WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PLAY IT! JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is only about 1000% more difficult than playing the Haydn Trumpet Concerto...and Wynton has already said he is done with music like Haydn!

Ummmmm you REALLY have to be joking, right? Bud was THE consummate trumpet player and performer, Wayne (so far), seems to be a fantastic studio player and...that's about it. No performance ability which is the hallmark of the best musicians. Performance is not about being hunched over a music stand like a college music major doing their semester juries.. Standing in front of your own band, playing, interacting with the audience and...NO STAND!

Kurt, I saw some of your old videos where you say the hardest level of trumpet playing is the written high note solo. Why is it harder than Jon Faddis playing a jazz ride way up high on a Dizzy chart?
Because the player doesn't have a choice..they are boxed into playing the actual solo without finger wiggling their way out of it! Yes, Jon Faddis has an amazing range, but not always. I have heard him play many times where he doesn't sound so good on those double C's and where he elects NOT to take the Triple G! This is the flexible easy part of being a high not jazzer. When you play a KNOWN written high note solo and treat it just like a concert pianist would treat Rachmaninoff's Prelude in Eb, you MUST perform at your HIGHEST LEVEL PERIOD! Good day, bad chop day, it doesn't matter! Also, when the solo is "KNOWN" by the general public, it puts even more pressure on the soloists. If I play HAPPY BIRTHDAY up 2 octaves and MISS a note, EVERYBODY knows I screwed up. When Jon Faddis plays THINGS TO COME by Dizzy and decides to take something down, put in more space, rest between his improvisation and licks, NOBODY knows because he is making it up (his improv solo) as he goes. To really find out how good Jon Faddis is a a pure trumpet player, not just a high note bebop jazzer, PUT Maynard Ferguson's HEY THERE in front of Faddis and have him play it note for note in front of a live audience (Like I did) and let's see if he plays perfectly or misses and cracks several notes. I got a Ben Franklin that says he would miss or crack more than 1 note! I have another Ben Franklin that says he would never try to play a KNOWN WRITTEN high note solo by any of the trumpeters much better than him like Maynard Ferguson or Bud Brisbois because he has every thing to lose and nothing to gain. Think about it: He tries to play JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR and totally screws up the piccolo trumpet part and chokes on the several Double E's which is very very likely what would happen...The world would then by able to better rank him in the world of all trumpet players as definitely NOT being the best leaving Maynard and Bud still way up at the top!

Very kind! No top player would ever comment because in their mind, that would make this look weak...paying respect where it is due. no biggie because that is just how it is. None wants to admit they absolutely could NOT play this song. Arturo, Wayne, Roger, nada...maybe Faddis could pull it off, but he might suck balls on the pic stuff.
