Hey guys, Flew out the Superfortress in the weekend. Boy oh boy, is this B-29 a beauty, she still is, but rough sailing at 7.3 br. Especially them uptiers. I usually take 40x500lbs because it is the heaviest bomb load. 8 of those will kill a base. So if I'm left alone, I can get 5 bases. Key phrase: "if left alone". Usually I'm not.
My k/d currently in the b29 is 4/13 so yeah. Not great.

Never helps that the team never tries to help with escorting
Fun fact: the guns/fire controls on the B-29 were so accurate they had a higher K/D than P51s in WW2.
Also fun fact: B-29s could carry TWO 22,000 lbs Grand Slams under each wing at the root.

@@miquelescribanoivars5049 Each station had a gun cam and this was how kills were determined.
@@johnnycab8986 Gun cameras are often not as reliable as they are cracked up to be, duplicate claims, off-frame movement of enemy aircraft and crediting of aircraft that in actuality managed to return to base were a common occurence.
Bro they need to add the gunner computer to help balance this thing
My grandfather controlled the belly turret on one of these in the Pacific during WW2, and I have pictures of him in front of his plane called, "The Bar Room." When I unlocked it I spaded it and by then I was out of SL for quite a while. I have an obvious soft spot for it, but it is WAY over BR'd.
you're grandfather was a brave man. Bomber crews took a heavy toll in ww2. And indeed the plane should be at 6.7
I would agree that the b-29 needs to be 6.7 because of the 12.7 turrets and maybe bomb load and that story of your grandfather being in the b-29 was awesome and the b-29 was known for its engine fires and Japanese fighters. I wish you both comrades good luck in the skies GG.
Oh my, thank you so much for doing my request, Jengar! ❤❤❤ I know it may sound corny, but I really do appreciate the work and effort you put in those videos to entertain us! 🙂And as for the B-29 this beast reveals its full performance when using MEC. That way you can open the radiators manually and fly on WEP for ages. It can even go around 650kph TAS at altitudes over 9000 meters.

i didnt get the opportunity to visit a war museum yet. When i can afford a usa trip, i´ll def visit ww2 museum
I just checked the US tech tree ad the B-29 sits at 7.3 while the next one lower (the B-24D) sits at 5.7 and the next one higher (the B-57A) sits at 8.3. The problem AND the solution seem clear - the B-29 needs to come down a few BR (and have its repair costs fixed) and something needs to be added to lineup before the B-57.
My recommendation would be around 6.7 for the B-29 (two steps below the cannon armed B-29, ie the Tu-4 which is moved to 7.0), with the B-50D added at BR 7.3. The B-50 was faster and heavier than the B-29 AND an extra 20mm in the tail. This would have the benefits of stopping the B-29 from seeing late 50s aircraft, increase its attractiveness for Air RB and provide a stepping stone to the jet bombers.
Since I am dreaming I'd also like to see the B-36 at BR 7.7 and the B-47 at BR 8.0 !

The only way I’ve found to keep a B-29 alive somewhat reliably is to waste 5-10 minutes flying backwards or side climbing, till I’m at 6,500-7,000m or more and then go to bomb the bases that remain. If you’re lucky the teams attackers will have killed all the bases and you get the full value of the bombload against the enemy airfield. On occasion that’s ended a battle right there, but most the time it won’t kill the base by a small amount and then you have a perilous journey back to base as a wanted plane. By the time you land, if you haven’t been shot down, the battles already been decided and you either J out, or put fuses on your bombs and go for whatever since you won’t be able to climb high enough to avoid airfield AA.

I often heard that b 29 is a giant flying fortress that is durable like a tank, high bomb load with deadly gunner. Yet it fight jets which is a good thing. We might get a b 29 spam if it was at 6.0.

Every time i play the B-29 i climb to like 8000 Meters and then i head towards the bases. Because most of the time when a Jet is attacking me he is flying so fast that i don´t have time to aim at him with my guns. So altitude is really your best friend in this Plane. You can´t climb to high.
The BR is just ridiculous.

Recently i have bought a skin for my beloved K61, well i thought i bought, instead it is now unlocked, to fully get it i have to make progress within its "reasearch " bar.
The problem is that i am keep playing and no progress is achived,

Bombers look great but I feel like they're more risk than reward so I haven't really unlocked too many
this is true to a certain extent, but one can make them into monsters. With enough skill and experience.
Look up, “how to gunner”
I feel bad for whoever is trying to spade this in AirRB so I skip over these bombers till the very end just so they can get some XP.... I do this because I choose the Tu-4 first for a bomber and that has a higher BR rating and grinding that thing sucked so bad, so I feel the pain when I see one on the enemy team and even on the same team as me.

War Thunder puts up every incentive not to play this plane or planes like it. What a stupid way run a game.
