Feauturing Meaghan Grace Hinkis, Emma Maguire, Mayara Magri and Leticia Stock and Gary Avis as Herr Drosselmeyer in the Dance of the Mirlitons, also known as the Dance of the Reed Flutes, The Nutcracker is a Christmas treat for the whole family and a classic with a special place in the hearts of ballet fans around the world. Recorded in 2016, this special performance celebrated Peter Wright's 90th birthday, and will be broadcast on 17 December 2019 with new features. Additional screenings in selected cinemas throughout December.
Peter Wright's interpretation of The Nutcracker has been enchanting children and adults alike since its first performance by The Royal Ballet in 1984. Lev Ivanov's 1892 ballet combined with Tchaikovsky's sumptuous, iconic score are presented in a festive period setting with vivid designs to make this a charming and magical production.
Loosely based on the story by E.T.A. Hoffmann, the ballet begins in the 19th-century German home of the Stahlbaums, where they are hosting a lively Christmas party. The period setting is captured in opulent detail by Julia Trevelyan Oman's designs, which include authentic Christmas tree decorations that are magically brought to life. Wright's choreography ingeniously incorporates surviving fragments of the ballet's original material, including the sublime pas de deux for the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Prince. But in emphasizing the relationship between Clara and the Nutcracker, the production also gains a touching subtext of first love. - Розваги

I watched it with speed on 1.25 with no music and didn't know it. I was like "wow they are dancing so fast, they are so synchronized".
😂😂😂
This comment made my day 😂
😂
I chuckled so loud. I think I'll show my dance students at that speed just to see what they think!
@@chocolatesouljah hahaha Iet me know what do they think
Francesca is such a good dancer she litterally looks like an angel
That's not what "literally" means.
Christine C. It’s an expression :/
@@englishatheart frenchie's english 🙊
She's an angel all the way, and a 111
@@Merdicano angels are not real
Francesca Hayward Is such a beautiful dancer!
And beautiful herself
And she got the roll of being Victoria in Cats 2019
They look like they are floating and how can they all be in sync like that? It's absolutely incredible. So much work goes into these several minutes if blood, sweat and tears being assigned such a big role can be extremely stressful. You could, of course, never know from the looks on these dancer's faces kudos to Francesca and the royal ballet!
Yeah it is real hard
It's august, I'm in my garden and it's so hot. But I watch this and I'm already feeling the Christmas atmosphere....just ballett can do something like that.😊
Now it's only a few days away 😁
Now it’s only a few days away 😊
As an Australian, that tripped me.
Ladies and gentlemen. I present to you Francesca Hayward. The sole good thing that the Cats movie had to offer
Agreed. She was so sweet but the movie sucked.
@@sford557 she does have a really pretty voice too
Steven McRae??
@@hollum1648 oh the movie had lots of PHENOMENAL performers, she was just the one that was just the unknown put into the spotlight the most
The Royal Ballet never ceases to amaze me.
Oh please more Francesca Hayward! She’s just gorgeous! Can’t wait to see her in cats
I know!! I can't wait either!!
Oh boy...
I don't understand all the hatred toward that movie. I thought it was fun & enjoyed it more than the stage production I saw a decade ago.
Sadly, her performance was the only thing redeemable in that unholy mess of a film...
@@johnpjones182 I LOVE CATS 🤍
2:12 smallest stumble ever

I saw it cause I was watching the feet! But still she was so beautiful
So beautiful. I wish I could do ballet.
try! Everybody can do a class, you won't do entrechat 4 or arabesques, but you'll dance! Ballet is for everyone and a lot of schools offer classes for adults who are beginners. Go for it!!!
@@AudreeAdam thank you, I will try but I doubt I'll be able to achieve anything.
Hannah Awori just have fun and don’t even mind those achievements. As long as you have fun dancing, that’s an achievement already.
It's never too late to try!
@@hannahawori3639 I just started adult ballet and I look absurd but I do it for the love of ballet and I have a lot of fun. Eventually I'll be able to do more and more things, I just won't have a professional career and that's ok. I'm 37 by the way.
Makes you wanna hop around in your living room 😊
2:13 was a lil stumble and she hid it so beautifully
gosh ur eyes must be amazing i spent last 10min trying to find that stumble and i didnt see it
@@lanavita6783 they time stamped it after, it happens a couple seconds before
saw it her foot moves a bit but she does hide it reallly well
Which one?
a layman like myself never even noticed that at first
🤩Movement, musicality extraordinaire, make for magical memory moments of Margot Fonteyn, something I thought I'd not ever see again, yet here we have it in Francesca Hayward💖
Pure perfection! I have a smile on my face throughout the whole scene :)
🥰that's exactly how one felt throughout a Margot Fonteyn performance and the true face of the Royal Ballet.
The set design is outstanding, and as for the dancers what can I say just beautiful.
Francesca is such a wonderful dancer and a true beauty!
I have a ballerina friend, quite a beautiful, well known dancer, who had to stop her career. When she went (?) 'en point' and would spin on one toe, she would release violent farts, even heard over the orchestra. She would be in tears, but the public would be hysterically laughing. So sad and awful for her.
@@maryannetesh4105 that’s horrible I’m so sorry. I honestly think ballerinas shouldn’t dance on pointe. It damages their feet and it’s not supposed to be used for that. I get it it’s maybe beautiful like you’re rising and your on one toe standing like everything pointed but I think that’s wrong and ballerinas should just be on all toes
It’s so light and airy, I wish I could dance like that.
Great dancing. Saw Francesca Hayward and Mayara Magri in 'Manon' last week. Their individual performances were of the highest calibre. Brilliant moving and acting.
This is art, pure perfection. Amazing.
This is so beautiful to watch, that is why I love ballet so much
She makes it look effortless. What a gorgeous dancer.
Thank you for this video!
It's pure aesthetic pleasure!
Francesca is so beautiful!
Ok it needs to be December now! Such beautiful dancing and now I can’t wait to see the Nutcracker again as it’s my Christmas tradition 🎄🎄
Rhiannon Rowe it’s shame the ROH isn’t putting on Nutcracker this year but I’m excited for Coppélia!
Alyssa1884 I’m thankful the Australian Ballet is putting it on and I have my tickets. Coppélia is a wonderful show and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!

Francesca is so beautiful and ethereal, the perfect Clara
The Dance of the flowers was exquisite. Ovation TV no longer does The Battle of the Nutcracker. Would you please post the entire ballet? Thank you, Merry Christmas!
When we did Nutcracker at my studio, the Mirltons were our most skilled and professional dancers from level 6 of our pre pro program. They all wore different colored tutus and it looked very cool.

Such a sweet choreography. Would have loved to have seen Francesca as Clara, but she's dancing the Sugar Plum Fairy this year :) Which is great.
at my studio this dance is called marzipan, and i love the music so much it’s beautiful
Somehow I got this stuck in my head and was searching for it for a while, trying to find the right dance from the Nutcracker...
Lovely performance 💕💕💕
What a beautiful Clara! 😍
The girl who playing Clara is beautiful and so are the dancers.
she's a lesbian
Why should that matter idiot? STFU 🙄🙄
Maryanne Tesh she literally had a boyfriend what r u on about
Currently dancing this! Thanks for great reference!
such a cute dance! I'll suggest it to my teacher we practise this variation!
After all this time, I've finally found this piece. You have no idea how long I've been looking for this.
I didn't know that Royal Ballet's Nutcracker version has Clara dancing throughout all the dances. It must be exhausting for the dancer.
I think there's a few numbers she watches from the side. There is a Russian version I saw recently where Clara also does the Sugar Plum Fairy duet/solos which must be *especially* exhausting!
So lovely!
0:07 Gary is like, "oh heavens' sake"
She is so beautiful!
I will always remember this playing whist having my vasectomy. Doctor asked why I was smiling, then he smiled.
I left it to him to explain to the nurses.
...well then, that was quite personal. But yes, this song can make you smile in almost every situation :)
Look @ that gorgeous smile on her face.
Ballet dancers are gods. They're so gorgeous and talent wow
Gorgeous dancing !

Beautiful and elegant! 👍
Good alignment. All of them. All together.
I’m watching this so I can learn the dance for Christmas

Wow, weird seeing Francesca NOT as a cat... 😂😂 but seriously, she’s the best dancer I have EVER watched! I hope someday my dance will be HALF the standard hers is! (It won’t but why not dream) 🙂
That Dance Looks So Hard! I DoBallet To And Don’t Think I’ll Ever Get There One Day, But I’ll Try!
Woah so graceful
Pretty good, I am starting to like ballet more and more :)
Charming dance performance.
One of my favorite pieces of music from the suite! At my dance studio growing up this was the “dance of the reed flutes” instead of marzipan. Some similar vibes but my non-graceful self couldn’t make even our simple choreo half as pretty as these dancers do.
We all got a lead role each as seniors (fourth years) - not including playing Clara’s Mom which half of us also did. I can’t even remember the Dew Drop Fairy number they choreographed specifically for me. I regret not asking to be considered for Mother Ginger (the second year role) instead because all she does is ham it up in the background while the clowns (aka polichinelles) dance. I’m old enough now that my friends back home have kids that are dancing the clown role! That’s so wild to me. (It’s for 5 and 6 year olds)
Side note: we were not a professional school or anything. There were some amazing ballerinas at the studio but it was more of a recreational/competition studio where jazz and lyrical were king. More acrobatic and jazz-like routines were the most competitive roles - especially the Russian lead dancers. That number was always the strongest one and I was thrilled to just be in the corps for that one my final year after dreaming about it all through childhood!
I was a really good “party parent” because I was a theatre kid who got to choose another theatre kid as my partner. Not as much dancing and more of an acting thing which I preferred as a person who loved ballet but wasn’t that great at it. We’ve heard that no one before or since has acted the role better than us and that was 11 years ago lol
BRAVO!
I love it ❤
