I know a guy with no connection to “classical“ music. I played this for him one day. He said, “it just keeps coming!” He also said, “it’s 100 people doing what they do best at the same time!” This is perhaps the most powerful music ever written.
_The final act. Your final dance! You've tasted your dream. Touched it! Only to have it crushed. Your heart is broken. Wounded! Your life force fading. The blood drips. The black swan stole your love! There is only one way to end the pain. You're not fearful, but filled with acceptance! And you look down at Rothbart and then at the Prince. And then yes, and the audience! And then you jump! Go ahead, jump! You'll be fine, jump!_ - Black Swan
It's no wonder there have been so many different versions of the final scene of Swan Lake - while overall bittersweet, this music could fit either a happy or sad ending perfectly
I sit here, almost acting out the music at my computer! I feel like I'm a cross between a figure skater and a gymnast right now. This music is so completely stunning. I have loved it since I was a child and now as an adult, I appreciate the time, effort, and patience it took to create such a magnificent work of art. Peace!
Stop what you are doing. Sit back and listen to this! This is the Romantic Movement in western music at its pinnacle of perfection. The opening bars are simply awesome.
Yes! First time I was cognizant of this piece, 3:21 was so gripping to me. The recording I had happened to have heard ended around 5:42, so for a long time afterward, I had assumed that was the end of the entire composition. Then, many years later I saw the movie "Black Swan". Instantly, towards the end of the film I recognized the finale starting at 3:21 and it brought me chills. But then, during the scene when she jumps off, I heard for the first time this harp piece that starts here at 5:42. I was captivated, I loved it! I thought it was something added by the movie's soundtrack composer and I was astounded by how perfect it was as an "addendum" to the master composition, utterly brilliant. But then, finally, I came to learn that this harp ending was part of the full composition by Tchaikovsky, and what I had missed for so many years prior! I was floored. Perfection raised to the power of perfection 👌
this brings back my childhood. Might have been 6 years old in 1990 listening to this on tape - "The Best of Tchaikovsky" ... make me be riveted and cry at the same time then, and still now. My mother read to be Tchaikovsky's biography when I was 5 or 6 and it mentioned his closeted homosexuality - I think (well, mothers know all) she knew I was gay back then. I see this piece in a unique way ... makes me cry as if I would for a brother.
As usual Mr. Tchaikovsky uses unbelievable melodies and rich orchestration to show us why he is called Peter the Great. No doubt, one of the best composers who ever lived
Für mich eines der grossartigsten und phantastischsten Stücke von Tschaikomsky überhaup t!!! "Die Musik drückt aus, was nicht gesagt werden kann und worüber zu schweigen unmöglich ist!" Victor Hugo (1802-1885)
STOB IT She Said It Because She Was Perfect When She Was doing Her Ballet. Its not About good and bad, She was trying to say “I was Perfect.” Because of her skill.
I just love the strings part at 3:50, it sounds so tragic and you can just feel the anguish. and then the harp at 5:43, it literally sounds like they're rising up into heaven. tchaikovsky supremacy.
This is such a great idea. I'm sure it would be a first at the cemetery...but I can envision the two large speakers, 250 watts and a sub-woofer to top it all! This would sooo shock my relatives and I wish I could get someone to set this up and orchestrate such a burial with the dramatic lowering at 3:21 of the finale. GREAT IDEA.
While stationed at the Philadelphia Naval Station, I was privileged to hear this and Barber's "Adagio for Strings" played by the then incomparable Philadelphia string section under Eugene Ormandy. Spoiled, I have yet to hear either of these favorite compositions played so beautifully.
It's about a girl who gets turned into a *swan* and she needs *love* to break the spell. But her prince falls for the *wrong* girl. So she *kills* herself. 🦢❤️

Yes! Great observation, it can go both ways, happy or sad 😯

This is by far one of the most beautifully epic pieces ever composed, so good it seems to have served as inspiration for the Harry Potter theme music.
This is so beautiful, it made me cry for the first time ever listening to music. This conductor was a genius.
Same
I watched this gorgeous ballet again the other day and I was a mess by the end of it, this music is so beautiful

I want 3:21 onwards to be played at my funeral when I'm lowered into my Grave or Crematory.

In this piece I hear the impossible futuristic utopia of what Russia could’ve become! I hear hope and also despair. Tchaikovsky was a genius.

Yes, cause her prince falls for the wrong girl
The Black Swan Is so cruel!...why she did that?? And why did the White swan kill her self
STOB IT because the black swan tricks and seduces her prince and since the white swan is so in love with the prince that she would die without him

Too fast. I do not think Previn has a true conception of how dancers would actually move in his interpretation.
Sounds a bit like harry potter in some parts
John williams was definitely influenced by Tchaikovsky
