- How to unclog a sink.
I did not wear gloves because I didn't use any chemicals. If you tried to use Liquid Plumber or Draino first, please wear gloves.
If this does not fix the clog, it would be best to hire a plumber who will snake your pipes as the clog is beyond the P trap.

Dad: How are you not able to bike at 8 years old?!

Omg yes I relate to this so much lmao
Is my sink clogged?
No.
Am I gonna watch this video at 1am and leave a comment?
Yes.
This was funny until i looked at the time I'm watching this. It's 2:08 am and I'm in the bath watching this because i couldn't sleep :/

My sink is draining quickly now. Thanks dad
You're welcome Kyle! 👍

Thank you

this makes me cry
I'm a 67 year old female house owner who lost her father when I was 6 years old. This has been so helpful in a very nonthreatening way. Thank you so much. I love this.
Just the phrase "Dad, how do I..." already hits home.
It does, doesn't it. My wife said "it hitting all the feels and kudos to you dad." "thanks dad"
I adore the "You got this" Not only teaching, but trusting your children will be able to do it. That's wholesome. That hits home. Thanks Dad.
My dad is alive, he’s just not very good at giving instructions over the phone. Thank you for helping me fix my sink!
He in prison?
516Jafuh 😂😂
Same :/
I've tried to give instructions over the phone. It is not at all easy. Too many variables.
It's worse if the person you're trying to instruct doesn't have any experience.

Dad, the weather is getting nice out and want to learn: how do I grill food? Thank you.
That would be good to know.
Yes!
Actually thats just what i need thanks dad
I've actually wondered that myself. My biological dad wasn't there to teach me, and all my first stepdad knew how to do was throw a little beer on it and drink the rest (he was an addict/dealer/alcoholic and other stuff). And I haven't even seen a grill at my mamaw and papaw's, ever, and I lived with them for a time.
I would be interested in it aswell.
I love these videos! My dad has passed and sooo many times I’ve had problems and just wish he was here to ask because I know he’d know just what to do! Thanks so much, your videos are so helpful!
Thanks for the kind words Dawn. :0)
Me too Dawn. 5 years ago
Melissa White bless you, mine was 7 years ago now. Doesn’t get any easier! Love to you xx
I feel this so much. My dad passed 1 year ago and there’s so many times I want to call him and ask him something but I can’t and then I cry because it hits me all over again that he’s not here. But this man here is amazing thank you for creating this page. Hats off to you sir.
Brittany Balthaser my feelings exactly! Bless you. He lives on in you! X
You rock!!!
I am 63. I like figuring things out. Daddy thought girls should not need tools if you weren’t super poor. He grew up in the depression/WWII. He taught my younger brother.
Daddy died when my brother was 12 (I was 14). I am astounded at how much my brother retained... plumbing, carpentry, electrical.
Now my brother teaches me. First he taught me to fix computers and we did Y2K consulting together. Now he moved across the street after decades out of town. He buys me tools. He is my biggest advocate.
Your channel will help me learn more. Also, you will help my dear friend who just bought her first house and is finishing her Masters so has little cash for calling services to help her out.
Thanks! Subscribed.
Hey Dad, can you teach us how to clean an oven? Your kindness shines through every video!
Yes cleaning an oven would be so useful!
I never seem to get it totally clean, would love to see his advice!
Most newer ovens have a self clean setting. If you put your oven on self clean, usually it will lock the oven door, heat up so hot that it turns everything left in the oven to ash, then you can just wipe out the ash when it's done.
If your oven doesn't have a self-clean option, then easy off spray is always great too!
@@eerieyokai6228 That's so handy to know, thank you!
@@eerieyokai6228 My 30 year old over had a self cleaning feature. My new 5 year old over does not :(
You saved my life. My sink was taking minutes to drain and we were just days before moving out of our apt. and I knew we were going to be fined. This video gave me exactly what I needed including the confidence to just go through with it!
All those earings and rings and stuff I've lost to the sink drain were all waiting RIGHT THERE in the p trap THIS WHOLE TIME ARE U KIDDING ME!?
I wish you were my dad. These videos are amazing thank you so much for being you.
Like he said, it depends on how much water you poured down the drain after. They could have been there, then washed away later.

thank you so much!! my dad didn't have a dad to teach him these things, and as a girl you're never really encouraged to do these things, I unclogged my sink and squealed of joy, never has a pile of smelly gunk made me feel so happy, thank you so much!!!
My dad refuses to teach me things like this because I am a woman... He tells me to get a guy friend or a plumber. Thank you
My dad was the same way. He passed away years ago and left me with so many questions.
He said it for you. He dosent want his daughter getting her hands messy when a guy could do it for her.
@island mike hit me with some constructive criticism. Because, "fashion" and "retarded" are also conditional and personal concepts. Some even consider a FASHION to be retarded, ok?
He does it for your good. Go ahead and ask mother to teach you cooking, keeping house clean and other woman things.
@@yurimolfarUA there are times when you can't ask for help or have to solve the problem urgently. This is why I, for example, had to learn how to cook.
I've been dealing with a kitchen sink clog for a min. This came right when I needed it. You are greatly appreciated. 😭😭😭
I've been asking my dad to unclog my sink for over a year. And I live with him. I'll be doing it myself now! Thank you so much
My 18 year old son and I just fixed a slow drain sink! I know that must sound so simple and easy for some folks, but for me it was incredible and empowering! Thank you so much Rob!

@@bendoverson3231 Oh - I didn't know that I had a sibling!
Some men just don't realize they are the world to their children. They can't know how heartbreaking it is to a child when fathers don't make the effort to focus on a relationship, or they would invest more time on them. It is the most important job of a man's life - raising well-adjusted kids. Reading to a child at bedtime EVERY NIGHT should be a priority...even if Mom did it already. Dad needs to read to them nightly too. Not only does it help build relationships, but school is sooo much easier when they are comfortable with books. My grandsons knew half the words by the time they were 6-7 because they had been automatically following along for awhile as Dad and Mom read to them.
dad left us when i was 6. mom raised us by herself since and she did not know how to do these things. you are a hero!
Thanks “Dad”!! I used your wisdom last week to fix a pain in the butt clog in my kitchen drains! It took me a couple days, but I did it!! (My dad took his own life while my mom was pregnant with me 😢) Thank you for saving the day! I also taught both my daughters as I fixed it so they can pass it on to their kids some day!
I'm 58 years old and I'm crying. Never really had a father (he was alcoholic) and home was never normal. Some wounds aren't healed by the passage of time. Your kindness is touching. Thank you.
Man, I’ve lost my dad when I was 13 and I’m lacking so many basic skills and you my friend, you will never know how much this channel means to me !
My dad passed away in 2004 so I didn't know who to ask about my slow drain. After I watched this I went ahead and opened up my P trap....one word "EEEEEEWWWWW" The previous owners of this apartment clearly did not know to do this...the smell alone...then clumps of slimy black stuff. I don't think I even WANT to know what that is. Thanks Dad! I almost cried thinking about the fact that my dad would have liked you and thanked you. He once taught me to change a tire with the car set to neutral. He laughed quite a lot at me trying to take the lug nuts off before admitting what he did..such a prankster!
Subbed immediately. My dad wanted to do everything himself and never taught me a thing. This channel is a lifesaver. Thank you very much!
My dad simply left when I was 12. I found my way around to do all the stuff around house myself, yet it feels good to watch you. Thanks dad!
Having a steady, kind dad, when so many things are crazy out there, is just so restorative, thanks!
I watched this video just to watch it when it first came out. Today it came in handy! A sign your a great teacher is that I didn't need to rewatch it, it all absorbed into my brain the first time. Just came back to say Thanks Dad!
Found you through a post your daughter made in a FB group. My heart! Your channel is amazing. Made me cry thinking about how sweet what you're doing. 💕💕💕
Thanks Windy. :0)
My dad just doesn’t have the time to teach me this stuff, your channel is such a blessing. Thank you so so much.
normal people saying this is so boring, but this guy god sent us really just makes it feel personal
I’ll be 40 this year, likely not much younger than you. But I wish you’d been a resource for me during my own fatherless youth. Thank you for this, you’re an example to us all of what humanity can do for its own. Blessed be.
Wow, I can't believe how useful this was. Been living alone for over a year now and hadn't even considered doing any kind of maintenance. My sink wasn't able to hold water at all but this helped me fix it. Thank you so much!
You, Sir, are a national treasure. Thank you so much for your kind and generous spirit! My dad did not teach me these things because I’m a girl. He’s been gone for almost 20 years now. And now my husband is disabled, on dialysis, and on the kidney transplant list. My daughters and I desperately need a kind, gentle teacher as we learn how to take care of so many things in the house. Thank you again. May God lavishly bless your 2023. America needs you and an army of men like you!
Im literally crying through this video. I just saw the post on FB and you overwhelmed my heart. My dad left my family when i was 7 and now, as a single, house-owning woman, i have to youtube so much basic stuff. Thank you ❤
I'm a single mom and my son is my world. You're not just a dad of 2 you're a dad to millions!❤ thank you so much for all your help. You rock!
Thank you for this. I almost cried when I saw a post on Facebook about your UA-cam channel. You have no idea how much I appreciate you being someone who also grew up without a dad. Thank you for being a dad to thousands of people!!
Imagine this guy’s face when he wakes up and sees his videos blew up. Faith in humanity slightly restored. ❤️
I also grew up without a dad and I'm a recent homeowner. I'm so happy he's doing these videos.
Thank you, thank you! My husband (who did all those "honey-do" jobs around the house) passed away a year ago, so my bathroom sink drain has had no attention for awhile! It has been running s-o-o s-l-o-w the last week or so, and frustrating me no end. Even tho this video is 4 years old, I was so glad to find it. Your step-by-step directions, with your sense of humor, and helpful close-up video, gave me the confidence to attempt the clean-out, and save myself a plumbing bill. Yay! Now the water drains right out, down the drain, where it should! (And you would NOT believe the gunk I cleaned out of it!) Now that I know I can do this myself, I'm pretty confident I can tackle some other unsavory tasks around here! Thank you again! Take care!
I’m sorry you lost your husband, glad to be able to help. 🙏🏻
@@DadhowdoI Thank you. God bless you! 😇
I love my dad, but he’s always been an extremely busy worker and he never had time to teach me things like this. And both my parents never had patience to teach without screaming or getting annoyed. If I am ever a parent, I will always prioritize time like this. Thank you for everything dad! You’re helping many and I agree with the rest, we must protect you at all costs❤️ you bring hope and a smile to many of us.
My dad was killed by a drunk driver on Valentine’s Day when I was 4 and there are so many basics I lack this was one of them. Thank you so much for being who you are!
That hole in the plug at 5:17 made me think back to 10 years ago when I was a kid wondering why the plug would just pop up and down! no wonder, it was disconnected! I can't believe I'm just learning this. THANK YOU!
Yes, be careful!! Had to take my husband to the ER after he had to get under the house to get to the plug, he found it, laid in chemicals till he had it repaired, and got 3rd degree burns on arms and back! Thanks dad, you’re anointed! 🙏🏼
Why would anyone dislike, this man is a role model! Love u dad!
My mom's bathroom sink has been clogged for a while now, so it was very convenient that I stumbled upon your tutorial today. I tried out what you taught in this video and was able to unclog my mom's bathroom sink all by myself!! Granted, there's still some kind of deeper blockage beyond the p-trap that is still clogging the sink whenever the faucet runs (we'll get a maintenance tech to help with that), but the fact that I now know how to take off and reattach a p-trap is so rewarding!! I also grew up without my biological father in life and briefly had a useless stepfather, so I really commend you for creating this channel for fellow fatherless folks! Thank you so much!
Thanks for this, my flat's sink has been draining so slowly for ages and now it's fixed - you're a legend
Thank u so much for these videos..my dad taught me a little but he had 2 girls so most stuff like this he did himself and never taught my sister and I. Hes passed away now so this is very helpful. I'm a single mom and don't have money to pay someone to unclog my drains. Thanks again. Your awesome
So cute! He even has terrible dad jokes! I love this! We need more of this in the world!

My dad left me before I was born so I never got to learn anything about how to fix or do basic tasks. I love this guy so much because he’s like my dad. He deserves the world. I love his channel! ❤️
New homeowner and my dad lives far away, I just declogged my sink cause of this. It was very gross but draines perfectly now. Thank you!
my father was convicted of murdering my mother when i was only a year old, so i never had a father figure that i trusted enough to ask to help me. ive never really had a father figure at all in my life, but now that i’m living on my own, i had a lot of questions about things. every appliance to me felt like it was failing and i went through so many different videos to hopefully find something that was helpful. when i saw the channel name “dad, how do i?” i subconsciously clicked, thinking about all of the times i wanted a father figure to help, and this is an absolute game changer. it’s comforting and now i know how to do most things that my father chose to not be there for. thank you for being here, thank you for being you. thanks, dad 💙
Pops walked out when I was 9 and left us living on the streets. Only thing I ever learned was computers so I appreciate your videos quite a bit. Thanks, Dad!

I have literally never done anything like this before. Have always enlisted help. Thank you so much for this simple ‘how to’... delivered so authentically. I was successful!. Thanks Dad!
This was so timely! My 16 yr old son and I watched this and I paid him 20 bucks to clean out the clogged drain in the bathroom. You are right - it is SOO gross the stuff that comes out of there - but the water is flowing GREAT now (and it doesn't smell anymore). THANK YOU for posting this video!!!
I too had my dad walk out on my when I was young, so I can relate. I also had no idea how easy it was to remove the trap of the bottom of the sink, so I’ve found a couple of other non-chemical ways to clear sink clogs that may be useful to your viewers and don’t involve removing any sink parts.
For me, most of the clogs happen at the top of the pipe in those four grooves in the circular water trap. If you don’t want to remove the water trap, you can very inexpensively buy a narrow, flexible brush to clean metal drinking straws. Open the water trap in the sink and use the flexible straw brush to clean the four grooves. If that doesn’t work, I have a small plunger that’s made for specifically for sinks, and this is also really inexpensive. Fill the sink with water and start plunging away. The combination of these two things has not yet failed me yet, but, if they do, I now know how to remove the sink trap. Thanks for that!
I'm happy to say the operation was a complete SUCCESS! Thank you for this. My dad is not in my life, so having to be "the man" of the house weighs puts pressure on me to magically know these things.
I’m a single mom so I no longer have a man to do things like this for me, I also lost my dad a few years ago so I can no longer call him up..

You can buy a wire screen insert to fit in the drain that will allow water to go down, but not your earrings, bobby pins, etc. Prevention is the best option. (Note: you do have to clean the screen and the drain below it from time to time.)
