My Dad was the MD of Pioneer Car Audio UK in the 70’s and 80’s. He built the UK dealer network for car audio and oem. A long time ago but some good memories, Particularly sponsoring Ipswich Town FC

I have another story about the same model turntable. My late brother bought a second- hand one (mine was bought brand new) and it wasn't working at all. He managed to locate someone who reputedly could repair it, but my brother had died before I was contacted that it could be picked up. A friend and I drove miles into the country to collect it and pay for the repairs and the fellow charged like a wounded bull. It still wasn't working properly when I tested it and at that time my own PL-L1000 was working properly so I didn't really need a second one and offered it to my friend..It still needed to be repaired so I took it down to a local electronic repair workshop - and it's been there for well over a year now, apparently looked at every so often when the technician has time away from "more important" work. I doubt I'll ever see it working properly and, as mentioned, I still need mine to be looked at!! I guess with mine its probably a case of some of the sensors needing to be either cleaned or replaced.

Pioneer used to have a factory in Cebu, Philippines, my stereo component system is made there. And up to now, it is still working with maintainance things here and there... built to last!

I’ve had several Pioneer products. Both home and auto. Always had very good experiences with the. The video spoke of the auto line, but never mentioned the “Super Tuner” line. They had the reputation of being some of the finest automotive audio widely available. They were made from the seventies through the nineties. Perhaps longer.

I had one of the early component systems for the car and it had the OG Super Tuner. It was amazing while sitting still but fell on its face while in motion. They didn't factor in the real world environment of mobile FM reception. Subsequent iterations of Super Tuner were much better for the mobile environment but lacked the edge that made Super Tuner famous even though that edge was impractical anywhere but in the most optimal conditions because it lacked stereo blending, and other attributes that made mobile FM reception listenable closer to the fringe of a given station's contour. This was in the 1980s and tbh I haven't heard their more recent line.

Nice video, put together in a smooth unspectular way concentrating on information.
Loved the pioneer brand always, in the 80's built several speakers with their then still available chassis.

Ooops... Reading through my last comment, I've realised I made a real faux pas. The local serviceman has had the turntable for over TEN years, not ONE because my brother died almost 12 years ago. Not surprisingly, my friend has completely lost interest in it.

I own a PL-L1000 parallel tracking turntable but it is no longer working properly and I need to get it repaired. For example, when I wish to play a 12" record, the arm moves into the 10" position before lowering.

The modern Pioneer logo is so boring, I miss the logo from the 80's/90's
Always liked their products. I had a portable stereo or 'boom box' SK-353 I think it was. The build and sound quality was incredible.
They stopped making portable stereos around that time which I thought was sad, no other company make them like they did, they were class.

I've always loved Pioneer open reel decks and receivers, but could never afford them. Too bad they don't make them anymore, because now I have the cash to buy them. I'm not really into car products as I don't like to be in a car for more than 30 minutes.

wait, so, what is the status of different divisions bearing the pioneer name? Onkyo kept the name when they bought the home division out, and after that its all getting confusing...

Just one more example that a brand name with no real substance behind it is meaningless and empty. I still have a 1974 Pioneer SX-434 stereo receiver and PL-10 turntable that I've had since 1979, and in recent months had them both restored to operating spec. I have no interest in current products with the Pioneer name slapped on them, whatever they are and from wherever they come.

So sad. Once great, but now dissolved for profit.
