You know Craig I am an old Englishman I am an RTIB qualified mechanic and tookthe technics route I started rebuilding BSA A10s Triumph T120rs moved onto Japanese bikes, to many to recall plus I have had some strokes so doubly so, however your rebuilds have brought back so many memories I am a little envious I still remember the highs of hearing a rebuilt engine burst into life, later in life I became a locksmith and I used to get the same thrill from picking open safes. Any way if you want to employ a cheap mechanic I would fly over and see you, unfortunately motorcycles were resposible for some serious surgery and I am waiting for my other knee to be replaced which will make 24 surgerys, I would just love to be round the smell and grease again and have plenty of time on Japanese bikes, I am at the moment living vicariously through you, I loveed the IT rebuild. Keep up the good work and all the very best I just enjoy your rebuild videos so much, thank you.

Awesome video--this brings back some memories: my best friend had an RM 250 in the late 90's and he 'got on it' a bit too hard while taking a turn on a mountainous road. He woke up about 5 minutes later and the bike was hanging in the lowest branches of a tree, by its handlebars, as he had wheelied it into the trunk and that torque monster literally climbed the tree! He nearly broke his collar bone (for the second time) and sprained his thumb. He still isn't sure what knocked him out but he was impressed that the bike had climbed nearly ten feet in the air in order to lodge itself that way! He had a heck of a time getting it down and had to replace a broken throttle cable and then he was back on the trails! That bike is far nicer than his--I hope you hang onto it.
You are so charismatic and natural in front of the camera, you were a diamond in the rough . I'm so happy you started your own channel.

This episode brought back some fond and terrifying memories for me!
I went from a cat 4 hp B&S mini bike to a near new 74 TM 400 Suzuki like my hero Roger “D” rode. it just about killed me several times over! That bike was so far over my riding skill level and was known for its hard to manage handling and power band but, what a terrifying thrill ride. My next dirt bike was a new 78 RM 250 what an advancement in suspension technology. The RM helped make me a much better rider due to its much improved handling and tamer power band .
My body reminds me every day of the multitude of times my TM 400 bucked me off of it!

I had a 1998 RM250 in the early 2000s that bike was So fun. I used to ride it all year round even in the winter time In the deep snow in northeast Ohio.That bike never like to start In the cold even with a new piston and rings! I had it out in my shed I would put an Small space heater right against the engine block for about an hour Before I would go ride it .Great video brought back some good memories Keep up the good work!!

@mk2ingit no I have a good bearing place here but for all the man stuff I hade to order through dealer and hope you're bottom end it still works so all you half to do is press a now rod on the bottom end
You need to think of motorcycles as ageless! Not old!
I was 26 when that bike was in its prime. It served a purpose that it was built for. Today's motorcycle is also built to do something more!
Travis Pastrana showed what could be done with the bikes you call old and helped create the bikes that are more capable today! Besides, every second hand bike is new to the purchasers. 😊
I used a shop rag to rotate my circlip out of the bottom of the crank... Separating the crank to retrieve it was not happening!.. 😅
Great job, it looks nice! I knew by the 3rd kick it would start, I had faith in the build because you did everything I would have done.

Great restoration. Motocross development advanced so radically after my motocross days were done in the mid-1970s.

These type of videos of tearing things down and building them back up in a wonderful manner really strikes my interest. I usually watch vehicle engine teardowns and have really wanted to see the two wheel side of engine teardowns/rebuilds and this channel is exactly the place for that. To take this bike from where it was to where it is in one video is awesome. Great guy, great mechanic. I think I'm going to like this channel. I guessed 3 kicks too lol.
1995 RM 250 2-stroke was my first full sized dirt bike and will always have a special place in my heart. Thing used to scream and go through spark plugs (the sparkplug issue was probably user error and not a whole lot of bike knowledge on my part). I loved that bike.

I knew you were gonna make good videos. Great job. Back in the 70’s I converted a 250 Suzuki enduro into a kitted screamer. So friggen fast, I lowered the frame and it ended up being a screamer on the track until you got to a corner. You picked it back up and took off again. It was a fun bike.

I started watching Craig when he was the mechanic from the bikes and beards channel about six months ago or so, then I figured out that he had his own channel. Never looked back. I'm not a motorcycle guy at all. All I have ridden is a four wheeler on a farm. I'm really interested in buying an old motorbike of some sort to restore. Your videos have taught me heaps 👍👍

Just stumbled on to this video. Funny enough my first 2 stroke bike was a 1998 suzuki rm250. I was no mx rider grew up riding trails 14yrs old and a rm250 screaming through the woods. The good old times. And i still have that same bike all these years later.

My new favorite channel. My old boss had a 92 RM 250, I had a 80 PE 250. If you find an old PE please fix it up, it was a great bike. I had no idea Craig is an actual top notch mechanic, I thought he was just a comedian 😅
I love a long term “over seasoned” project. When tearing down medical equipment as a bio-med engineer, I have to tear down to find the damaged parts and long term wait on parts with no exact lead time. Digging back in is so rewarding. It all comes together and no parts are left on the table. May take multiple tear downs to figure what you missed, but so rewarding of a feeling in the end. Way to many fist pumps into the air when it all comes together and simply works
Dude, i absolutely loved this one!... my first real bike was an 84 rm125...top end all day long!!!. Suzuki bike always were my favorites....yes even over honda and kawi

I reluctantly sold my 99 rm a few years ago because of not being able to get a new crank and figured I'd better get it sold while it still ran, Needless to say I was quite relieved when the crank you bought from a newer model wasn't going to work. Phewf!

I picked up a roached 96' RM250 for $500 bucks today. Pumped up a tire, unstuck the float and went riding. Needs wheel bearings, chain and sprockets, tires, plastics etc. I'll have a winner for under a grand..

That was cool. Brought back memories when I was racing MX back in the nineties. It was quite weird seeing Suzuki do that with the front forks for that year bike.

You brought back some good memories. My first RM 250 was a 1976 I believe. I think Roger Decoster won the world championship that year. I had another RM 250 but I can't remember the year. I think it was the first year they went to a water cooled engine. Enjoyed your video.

as an idea, with builds like this you can also make an "asmr" version of just the build with no voiceover and it could be 2x longer (its always nice to watch someone else work :D )

Bought the 96 RM250 new , without doubt one of the best bikes I ever owned . Once I sorted the jetting and put a FMF FATBOY expansion chamber with the factory muffler dialed the suspension clickers , the bike was more than amazing.
Just to add to my first response and be more technical , I ran a NGK B8EV @ 26 Thou , 180 main jet needle in 3rd position , 55 pilot jet and used Shell VSX FULL SYNTHETIC 2STROKE OIL @ 35 to 1 ratio. The bike started 1st kick idled really good had great down low good mid and excellent top end power . As I mentioned I'm really sorry i sold it.
