The BEST musicians ever were bands of the 1970s. Black, white, did not matter & Canada is criminally overlooked as contributors to that great era.

True. So many bands had to leave Canada tho before they'd be taken seriously. Even Anne Murray said Canada treated her like crap till she made it in US... _then_ suddenly the Canadian music industry was proud of her.

I brought them to my high school in northern Ontario in 1978. They were awesome and still awesome. I heard they built up quite a following in southern USA like Louisiana. For a small population of Canada we produced a lot of great bands, like BTO, Guess Who (Burton Cummings), April WIne, Harlequin, Chilliwack, Trooper, Max Webster (Kim Mitchell), Blue Rodeo, Prism and let's not forget Teenage Head.

My favourite band when I was 10 years old. Bought all their records (vinyl back then). Loved the fact that they were/are Canadian. Have never seen them in concert but would like to if they ever come back to Montréal. Apparently, they were quite popular in Holland, no doubt in part because Ronnie King (bassist) is Dutch and probably addressed audiences in their own language.

The boys took a lot of flack for the "light" nature of Sweet City Woman and were having trouble moving on from that musical type-casting so they decided to wrote a bone-crusher. If you want to fill in your Stampeders range of musical styles wheel, try one of the best ballads - Oh My Lady.

When I was a kid I'd take a radio with me when we went to visit my grandma who lived within 100 mi of the Canadian border, and I could tune in the Canadian rock stations from Vancouver, BC, and I heard a lot of stuff that never made it onto the radio south of the border, and this track was one of them. I think if the Stampeders would have released more heavy guitar songs like this one in the US, they'd've gotten a bit more traction here, but they did OK in Canada, and there's nothing wrong with that. Track brings back memories. I'm half Canadian, only been there maybe three times, but I like a lot of the music that came from there. This vid has the long version of Wild Eyes, pretty cool to hear.

So I look it up and it's some band I don't think I ever heard of.... so I look for their other tunes and I find this balls-out headbanger. Totally unexpected. I had no fkin idea these guys woiuld kick so much ass. Sweet City Woman is a great radio tune, but this is bangin. Got to find more!

Believe it or not, I saw them playing in a SEARS department store at the Westgate Plaza on Carling Ave, Ottawa, 1971. They were so loud, nobody was watching. I do NOT know why they were playing there. I was about 9 or 10... weird.

This vibe literally reincarnated into Jack White and The White Stripes... it's quite jaw dropping once you realize that.
