THANK YOU! Your videos are very clear and concise. You explain it clear enough I think even I can make something some so simple and useful.I can't say enough about your generosity of sharing your time and talent in such a way that I know will be helpful for so many people. P.S. By the way, I have seen many people demonstrate tying a square knot but I have never seen anyone show how to easily untie it. Thanks again for all you do!
Not a problem. When it comes to crafts, I think we are all generous by default. If you're proud of something you want to share it. To me the square knit is more useful, BECAUSE there's a reliable way to untie it. And as you can see, it's perfect for this purpose.
This is absolutely fantastic sir! For some of us that don't have tools and aren't good with wood work you should sell them for us folks that can't afford the 500$ or more price tag on more "traditional" spinning wheels. Then you will help us spinners out and make a tidy little profit. If you wouldn't mind making one for me I would be one happy lady. Seriously let me know.
We would love for people to build our wheels, but we do also build and sell them. You can enquire about pricing and delivery at our website. Porterthreads.com
This has been very helpful. :) I was having trouble with getting mine to spin for more than just a few rounds, but now I think it will be fine. Now to try it with fiber. :) Thank you very much for the pattern and tutorial videos.
i have wondered how the foot peddle works on this type of wheel and you have explained it simply but effectively. how is the spindle attached to the main shaft?
A square knot is what you’re showing. A granny knot is tying both knots in the same direction. That is as follows: square knot: right over left and under, then left over right and under. Granny knot: right over left and under, right over left and under. Granny knots don’t hold.
You where right when you described how to make both knots, but I don’t understand what you mean granny knot won’t hold. In my experience they both hold but you can always untie a Square knot, but a granny knot can become excessively hard to undo?
I like how the cat just comes over and plops down.

How to you make the fiber stay on the spindle of the dodec?
The shaker peg and the wheel bolt....are they lined up with the peg right below or is the peg offset? how far is the peg from the bolt?
I don’t completely understand the question, but I can tell you the center of the shaker peg should be ¾” from the center of the bolt.
Does the footman touch or hit the bottom board? how do you measure the length of cord for the footman?
It’s best if you keep shortening the footman until it just clears the base.
