It's an urban myth that Tony Prince asked the Piklz to not compete. it didn't happen. Mike and Q won two straight DMCs and parlayed it into a whole production company, asian tours, and then albums. DMC wanted nothing more than to maximize exposure for Q and Mike, they wanted their own thing and honestly did pretty awesome with thudrumble.
That DJ WAS considered one of the best in the world. He belonged to a group known as the Scratch Picklez and they were made up of literal championship DJ’s

They were simply in a league of their own, as their performance back in AUG of '94 with Lollapalooza @ the Kiefer UNO Lakefront Arena is still to this very day, one of the Top 3 performances I've ever experienced in person, with the other two being Pink Floyd "Division Bell" tour in MAY of the same year in the Superdome & NIN's "Self Destruct" tour also in the UNO Lakefront Arena in FEB of '95. 🤘🏻
Props for picking a crowd-pleaser that's not a radio hit. The "reactors reacting to reactors" is an excellent flourish-very original, one might say. Another home run!
_"He lookin like he one of the best DJs in the world!"_ He's not wrong. Mix Master Mike is the greatest DJ of his generation. He was so stupid good that they asked him to stop entering competitions so others would have a chance, he literally couldn't lose. 🐐
Exactly! This is exactly what Hiphop needs, back to the roots. DJ making fresh beats, MC's all about the music and crowd, and a vibe that moves the feet and claps the hands
I miss the Beasties. I'm so damn glad i saw them once live. Lollapalooza 94. Also saw Tribe the concert. Beastie Boyz were on during sundown. When it finally got dark out, they were playing Sabotage. The classic break in the song, they killed ALL the lights seeing only little red LED on amps etc. They paused for so long and got the crowd so built up. When that bass groove kicked in i got goosebumps. Then the lights slammed on like the sun and EVERYONE shouted along with the WAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! 😂😂😂❤❤❤. They were amazing live ❤
Caught this very tour in Charlotte,NC!! Their set was exactly how you describe!! Smashing Pumpkins was the headliner and Beasties played second to last. SP had to follow that sh*t! I remember about 3 song into SP set people started filtering out of there. I would not have wanted to be in a band that had to follow that Beasties set. 🔥🔥
I was there, and totally did not appreciate them at the time. I think me and my friends were probably at another stage for most of it 'cause none of us were hip-hop fans at the time. Ugh, I was so stoopid...
Beastie Boys are just fun. License to ill, was my childhood. It was the first hip-hop album I had. My P’s wouldn’t let me, but my older sister had the cassette and let me copy it. I was probably 10. A simpler time. I would lay on my bed, close my eyes, and try to memorize every song.
Aah I remember License to ill! My first hiphop discovery! Went and bought a few other hiphop albums at the local records store. Boy was I disappointed. I bought Missy Elliot - supadupa fly. :( Was hoping for something very different! Wanted something that fought for my right to party. heh
I was 4 when it came out, my older sisters had the cassette and listened to it a bit. I'm not sure if I learned from the music video for Fight for your Right or the tape but I would sing the song with them, we each had our own part :) I bought the CD when I was in high school and played the hell out of it, I can still freestyle the lyrics to Paul Revere when I'm bored. anytime Sabotage comes on the volume gets cranked to max in the car, part of the reason I have some hearing damage :)
Had the pleasure of seeing them live in my home NYC in the early days. Between them playing their instruments or being groundbreaking mc's, they hold a huge spot in my heart. ❤
“This is what Hip-Hop is missing. No females in the back, no jewelry, no egos, no nothing. Just pureness” We have been saying that since this video came out in the late 90’s. This album was released while that form of Hip-Hip was on its death bed. And everyone knew it and saw what was happening. It only delayed the inevitable unfortunately.
@@davidkreutzer4778 Also, it's possible that she doesn't know that the Beastie Boys were spawned from the punk scene, which is the main reason they act the way they act and why their videos are not overly polished. They were kind of a blend of punk and rap.

License to ill was so enjoyable and dope!!! I suggest you guys and gals give it a listen. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'm the same age as these cats from the mean streets of Flatbush, Brooklyn! I grew up watching, absorbing, and listening to true hip-hop. The Beastie Boys, along with RUN DMC, will always be amongst my all-time favorite music acts! These cats were possibly the funkiest white dudes to ever come out of the music scene!
For someone who was young enough to buy this album on CD. I am very happy to see a new generation experiencing one of my favorite albums of all time. Hello Nasty.
